Replacing the timing belt on this Audi a6 will be difficult since on this 1.8 liter turbo engine you must tear down everything in front of the serpentine belt in order to do the job . The timing belt job itself it's very easy so preparation is 95% of the job . Be prepared with the right replacement parts like O rings and hoses before even thinking of doing this job . The same procedure will be similar on vw passat , audi tt or any other model with the 1.8 liter turbocharged engine or the 2.0 liter or on even tdi engines

For the first time I’m watching TB on 1.8 vag car that is so simple “doing “. I mean I’m not getting confused 😂 by those complexities of TB on this ! At least I learned something from your DIY ! I’d replaced everything to my 20 yrs old 1.8 but yet I don’t do this TB now at 200K mark, it seems that I need to do so …, HUGE THANKS!

You could also use an adjustable wrench on the outter part of the tensioner to release as well.

You don't change the cam seal for prevention while you have everything except the cam sprocket apart? Also, I like to crank the engine a few times by hand first before starting the engine.

So I got a tensioner from the gates and the timing belt, but the tensioner roll has some play about the bolt. Is that normal? I mean I have now used it.

do you have to remove the front to access, or you can keep the radiator and the front ??

this is also something I wonder. Im in the process of changing the belt, but removing the hole front?! (instead of just putting it in "service position"). But I can understand, the access is much Much better this way.
