This is a very useful video. There are a ton of yahoo's on youtube showing methods that are conflicting at best, or downright wrong at worst. This thoroughly explains the proper, factory procedure, and the theory/reasoning behind why it must be done. Follow this step-by-step and you can't go wrong. Thanks for uploading!

I'm trying to revive two small Tecumseh two stroke engines built in the '70s. This is by far the best video I've found on setting up the ignition systems! Now I understand what the manual was trying to tell me. Thanks for posting it!

Fantastic upload, thank you very much! Finally some information that doesn´t have a lot of bullshit in it like most KZbin tutorials on this subject. This is exactly how it´s done.

I have a 1974 Tecumseh HM80 and it wasn't running right. I just did the points and condenser but I only get about an 1/8" or 3.5mm max spark length on my Lisle 20700 spark tester. Is this too weak? Do you think I need to change the coil?

Can you suggest anything for a situation where the inside of the flywheel rubs on the magneto laminate assembly?
@georgekeats14783 жыл бұрын
You loosen the screws and push the coil back a little until it doesn’t touch any more. You want the coil close to the magnets but not ever touching them.
@waynew28313 жыл бұрын
@@georgekeats1478 The coil is not adjustable in that direction. You can rotate it, but that's all.
@bushmaster29362 жыл бұрын
@@waynew2831 As you rotate it, it should move closer to or further away from the magnets, but not a drastic amount, but enough to clear the laminates. I am presently working on a 7HP Tecumseh that at some point in its life, the magnets came into contact with the laminates and "upset" them slightly. I am presently looking for a new complete assembly.

Hi there! Could somebody please inform me as to what should be the impedance measurements (in ohms) for this particular magneto coil? I am suspecting the coil has gone bad but i don't know for sure so it would be great to know these figures before i use a multimeter and find out. Thanks in advance!
@patprop746 жыл бұрын
between 7K and 10K I believe.

Thanks a lot! Very useful indeed! I had once measured this old coil and it came up with a 15,2K. I cleaned off some impurities from spark plug connection lead, and bingo! 7,6K well within specs! Also the old worn spark plug measured around 5,2K (smallest measurement) and a brand new same plug was around only 2 Ohms....so i guess it was a little bit of both (coil and plug) to blame for the no spark issue i was facing, would you agree?

I wonder if the timing dimension is the same a 2 stroke Tecumseh engine ?? Here on this 4 cycles, he calls for .080, how much for a 2 stroke ??
@v-g-z36894 жыл бұрын
It is different on the Tecumseh twostrokes, but I only have the dimensions for the european Tecumseh engines, that might make a difference. The TA and VA models fire at 3.5 mm before top dead center, the AV models at 2.5 mm. (non outboard engines)
