Roumanian hospitality: my friend announced her mom the cable/tv workers will pass by today, not tomorrow as planned.. Her reaction "How much time till they come? I don't have enough time to prepare food!" Because when someone comes to your house, to do a job or just as friends.. you need to offer them a drink, a snack, a something :)

my mom is like that to. around 2000 she worked in Germany for some time and she made friends whit her "Boss family". The friendship grew over the years to the point of them coming to Timisoara, were i live. My mother went crazy about the hopsatily, and even today, once 2-3 years the german famaly comes to my house, and guess why. They even joke many times that my mother hospatily had won them over and prefer to come to us that going to exotic destinations. (ofc, my mom brought them around Romania a few times, she's from Maramures and the grandparents are still there whit the entire old customs. That summer trip of the german family was one they would never forget. We made sure of it!)

I don’t think Romanian have the Best reputation but I’m not going into this because I have never been there and from my experience, as my next door neighbour is Romanian and she is the nicest one around! And I’m so grateful to have her and her family(Bulgarian husband)next to us always friendly and smiling! I am happy that vloggers go there and show us how nice it really is! Another really great video ! Many years ago I had a colleague in Timișoara, when he eats something healthy and delicious, he always says: My liver is clapping now ! :-))) Polenta, so simple, so healthy, so nutritious, so delicious ! Just imagine all minerals, and vitamins naturally and really slowly collected by the corn for months, all those go into your body ! Of course your liver starts to clap ! The goulash, simply amazing ! Using pork meat for goulash, this is really clever ! Do come back soon to Timișoara ! We Romanians are so hospitable simply because we want our guests to enjoy at least one time the things we enjoy everyday ! How about that ?

THIS! This is what Romanians live for! Its the biggest honor ever for them, to honor their guests! Even if they re not so nice to eachother, but you dont need to know that. But when someone is a guest, they become THE Patron, who needs to be pampered and spoiled. Its their Romanian family rep. Really good people to the core. If I may answer to Tommy question, why romanians are so friendly. I will answer by saying that generally latin people, such as Romanians, are more warmer people in heart. We get attach to feeling. We like to know people, different, we are curious. We ask. Romanias are usually attacher to personne If they prove loyalty and corretiveness. If You are fair to a Romanian he will be your friend for LIFE!!

Yeah, we're nice to a fault. We're way too friendly, and this is how we lost a lot of our wealth. Even the foreigners are stumped. We are beyond friendly because some individuals from outside the country instilled in many Romanians the mentality of slaves, so we always have to bow to foreigners because supposedly they are better than us - hint, they're not. And we're not "latin" Please research on who the Romanians are (we've been here 11,500 years and no latins around at that time). Actually there weren't many around at time ;) And if latins are warm at heart, I certainly haven't seen that in French people's hearts. Lol.

@user-Jab1000 I agree, we’re way too friendly and this is gonna cost us a lot in the future, even more than it has already, especially by attracting all sorts of foreigners who won’t want to leave, one exemple would be the Tates. The italians aren’t as friendly as we are either, they are selectively friendly (just when it benefits them and with those who they think are important like americans, but just see how the romanians have been treated there). Sad to see that we have so little self respect and still believe that every other nation on the planet is better than us, even after we have seen what they’re true colors are.

Heyo, Hungarian here (coincidentally I live in Romania for almost 4 years now). :) I have to make a correction here. "Hungarians do not put garlic in goulash" - that is simply not true. We put garlic in frikkin everything. :D So maybe not every hungarian (I feel sorry for them), but generally speaking yes, we do put garlic in the gulyás. ;)

Yes, because we were taught to think that we're below foreigners, especially the ones from the "west" With that propaganda running non-stop on tv and media in general, what do you expect? Many Romanians treat foreigners like God. I see it every time I travel back home with my spouse. Smh.

The thing with Romanians is that we like to complain a lot with each other, is honestly depressing most of the times. While foreigner will be much less inclined to depress you with all sort of cr*p and will be more focused on making a good impression, like normal people.

No other folks would bend over for foreigners to "make a good impression" You can be nice and provide directions if someone asks, you can even make recommendations for places to visit. But to treat them as if they're God, that's way over the top. I've seen people inviting them at their home and cooking for them. And thanking them for visiting. Why? Do you have a iobag mentality or what's the deal? Even these folks asked why Romanians are so friendly. Doesn't that tell you something? Americans treat foreigners like crap, especially the ones from Eastern Europe. And they think Romanians are gypsies. Enough said.

@@amecmn9990 For sure there are many like that but it depends I guess, some people might care about what you've to say and some may care less. But somewhat related to people being judgemental here, as a Kid I moved with my parent to Italy and studied there and every time I retuned in the summer to my grand parents all people in the village had to question me about how was school there, and I literally mean everyone. It was quiet uncomfortable as they already had a fixed idea on this subject that schools there were a hell lot inferior to Romanian schools, so they just wanted to fell good about some perceived superiority ... it might as well have been as they thought but gloating about something just to feel a sense of superiority is just incredibly un-cool : | But the sad thing for me was that in Italy it was the reverse, people there had a good opinion of me as they thought schools in Romania were good. So my co-villagers assumed bad things about something they didn't really knew just so they can smug on it while Italian on the same thing assumed good so that they could be kind ... I mean, I don't want to generalize, people in Romania are really cool, but some side of society here as you said can be judgemental and quick to assume bad things for a lot of wrong reasons.
