PREACH brotha. Been 7 years since my last attempt for me. My wife saved my life. With depression, anxiety and constant pain, it never gets easier but realizing the real "bad" days passes like everything else is sometimes the only thing I look forward to. In that moment, it's enough. Stay strong peeps, we got each other.

I know we don't know each other. Please never try again. I love you as another person. We all mean something to each other. We are all on this rock together for a reason. Strangers can change the lives of other strangers. Stay with us. If we try we can all get through life together. Let's stick together and enjoy foods and storys and jokes. Laughs. You are worth alot. As a christian I rebuke negative self thought from you ever again. Not sure of your beliefs but true Christian cares for others.... live laugh and love friend. Noone gets left behind if I can help it. People lean on each other. We need to do this.

I was saved by my best friend when I was 17 years old. A friend I had wronged so bad in a way I could never forgive myself. I was literally about to head home and make the worst and final decision of my life. He and I hadn’t talked in months. He saw me in the hall way of the school and as I tried to hide my eyes in shame and embarrassment he mad a beeline to me. First words out of his mouth were “I miss you man”. He asked if I would go see a movie with him and some of his friends that night. I looked him in the eyes, holding back tears and said yes. That’s was 24 years ago almost to the day. I do not know what made him come to me that day and I do not know how he came to forgive me for what I had done but I am eternally grateful that he reached out to me that day because my life has been amazing and I would have missed out on a lot of great things if it weren’t for what he did that day. We still talk though our lives have taken us in different directions. I have never told him what he did for me that day.

This song helped save me. I had been dealing with ptsd and survivors guilt for many years and what I thought was the final straw happened and sent me into a severe depression. I saw no escape other than ending it. This song came on and for some reason spoke to me, so I listened to it again and again, along with a few other songs that have a strong meaning to me. I listened carefully to the words and was able to pull myself out of that seemingly bottomless depression just enough to get the help I needed. Luckily I wasn't part of the 22 that day. I heard this story about a year later and I bawled like a baby. Thanks Shinedown you guys are awesome and forever in my debt.

truly, this song, and this video, mean a great deal to me. I was not always the happy upbeat man I am today. I was once low, very low, and I nearly gave up. I wanted to end it, but I never could. For years I thought I was too weak to do it. A few years passed, and I still felt that pain. One day I saw this video. In a second, listening to this video, and the story at the beginning, I realized I wasn't too weak. I was too strong, and I had never realized. This song didn't save my life, but it gave me a realization that I sorely needed. It made me realize my own strength. So thank you Shinedown...

Just shy of 20 years ago, this was the very first song that I ever played and sang together in front of a family audience. I can play guitar and I can sing, but this song is what brought me to knowing that I can do both at the same time. Being a musician and having doubts of fearing how people will judge you, and knowing that if it's the right song and the right feeling, you just go with it. This was the one. Thank you Shinedown for bringing that out of me, and letting me be comfortable with my talents. I appreciate you for that

As one of my all time fav bands I've seen them live several times but as many times as I've listened to this song, after listening to his opening speech, I've now heard it on a whole new level and I'll never hear it again the same, definitely brought out the tears. It's now so much more profound than it already was for me, especially because my good friend/brother-in-law tragically completed his final act with his .45. He was begging the Crisis center to help him but they failed to take him seriously enough and to find him a space in time. Sadly, the mental health system is failing drastically and the situation only continues to worsen. I love Shinedown because they speak of reality and are so inspirational, it's nice to feel not so alone.

Um, no. If the will to live always outweighed the ability to die then everyone who willed to live would never die and we would have a bunch of old, shriveled up people walking around that were thousands of years old. I don't care how much you will to live, you will die one day and enter into eternity. You will either be with God in Heaven or without Him in hell, ur choice.
@chxndwffls336 жыл бұрын
Travis Niles well obviously yes that is true but if you look at this on a deeper level it means if you are dealing with suicidal thoughts they if you attempt and have a purpose some thing will stop you from completling
@travisniles68006 жыл бұрын
Dakota Lee well, I mean even if you were relating it to the story in the video directly and not just taking it face value; the statement itself isn't logical at all, it just sounds good. For one thing, in the story, the guys desire to live outweighed his desire to die, because he discovered a purpose and reason to live that allowed him to foresee a future he deemed bearable. So the term "always" doesn't apply here. Let alone the word "ability". You could say the will to live CAN always outweigh the WILL to die... don't mean to be a party pooper just being accurate.
@chxndwffls336 жыл бұрын

This is a beautiful story; People will never realize the significance their negative comments have on others. I am truly happy for the survivor. Mental Illness doesn't mean damaged goods, it means that that individual needs help. Maybe not a shot of adrenaline, but maybe just someone to hug them, to hold their hand, talk to them.... or maybe just value them enough to sit with them. Words can't explain, and words can't describe, and words can't take away, the significance of persons life.... until it's gone.

Until it doesnt. Yet that is just a matter of means and opportunity. Someone who has set mind to die has thought about it deeply.. Probably far longer than others might be aware.

Well I think it’s true, and that when you want or do commit suicide, it’s because you’re unable to handle the misery within or around you. Sadly regardless of the good that could be around you, friends, family etc. I attempted on my own life a few times in the past and in my experience, I felt extreme guilt for wanting to kill myself because I would leave everyone around me. Of course I wanted to live and be happy but it’s as if my mind wouldn’t let me have that. Still struggle but I can say I’m glad I stayed to see the things I have, and I wish others all over the world had as well...

It’s so great to come back to what I thought (at the time) was the peak of this bands career and to see the growth 12 years later. I personally believe this is the greatest band possibly of all time.

Props to Shinedown for being such an inspiring and great band and for them making this gem of a song called "45" particularly I want to give credit to Brent Smith and his two friends he featured in his story for how they dealt with the heavy subject matter of suicide. The speech Brent Smith gave on how his friend encouraged his cousin to go on living despite all the dobuts in his head that said otherwise and the confusion he faced in deciding what to do with life as I quote the speech from Brent Smith which he quoted from his friend "You have not even begun to scartch the surface of how important your life means to not only me, our friends and our family but your life which is a gift for the world that is waiting for you." and the other speech Brent Smith quoted from his friend "The will to live will always outweigh the ability to die." Those two moving speeches helped me tremendously in improving my circumstances as I myself have had many suicidal thoughts and saw no reason to continue to exist however this beautiful speech by Brent Smith showed me otherwise. It was a reminder that you should never settle your life for less or feel worthless and confused to the point you kill yourself and while there are some cases where suicide can be valid like if you are in deep suffering because of a serious injury where you body is damaged beyond repair or the emotional pain something horrific happening to you is too much to bear or a choice people can make for personal reasons I understand these reasons are why some people kill themselves but for me suicide is the lowest of the options seeing as how many other paths you can take to improve your life situation and the ways you can not only make yourself feel better and those you care about but also show the world that you have something special and unique to offer. From the bottom of my heart I like to thank Shinedown and the lead singer for his touching opening segment for the song of him and his band "45" and the friend of his mentioned in how he talked out his cousin of suicide as that right there is the essence of giving someone the light they desperately needed in this world not to mention the beautiful message behind their song "45" in never giving up hope when all seems lost Nothing more to say but Shinedown are a legendary band and hope their music and work only continue to bring more people out of their misery and at least show them that there is always a chance that they could have a better tomorrow.

@@kathyraymelles.80 He is one of my favorite guitar players. He is very tallented but alot of Shinedown songs are simple so people dont think he is. But I just love like they said his emotion he puts into it. He puts everything and more into it and hes got a certain way of playing i cant put my finger on. Especially acoustic when you can hear him clearly. Sorry for long reply but as you can tell i love his playing.

I just lost one of my closest friends to suicide about a month ago now. Listening to this story brought back all of that pain and those emotions that I thought I’d put behind me after she left. But the strangest thing is that it wasn’t in a negative way. It probably helped me to fully move on. But still, I only wish she could’ve seen herself the way I saw her. Maybe she’d still be here.

T-RAV my best friend left me too 8 months ago(sorry my english is not perfect). Not suicide, she just said she dont want to communicate with me. I asked her why. She answered that when we do something together it makes her think about her past too much. I just let her go. Cause i loved her too much, to make her to feel pain. 8 months already gone, but i still feels pain and lonely. I know its not suicide, she lives good now, i hope, but she do not live anymore in my life. I hope she remember me, but i think i give more attention to her now, than she to me.

Oh wow so sad yet so framiliar when we’re down and out and deep in over our heads for whatever reason God gave us all to face our demons and then fighting them off the rest of our lives. It’s unpleasant but thank God for all the other lessons that taught us to survive even bigger ones later on. It’s amazing the way we overcame our toughest moments. We all have testimony if we don’t talk about how we made it through it could be that one person wouldn’t hear it and not make it. I’m constantly pleased by all the great songwriters spoke the truth and had a story to tell. We’re in this all together !
