Jason Timmerman grew up riding along with his grandpa Leo. He played cattle feeder when he was little, and relished every new chore he got to do as he got older. It was in his blood.
But to one day work in the feeding business alongside his parents and both siblings? That’s the dream, just a little sweeter.
Norm and Sharon Timmerman moved to Indianola, Nebraska, to expand the family feeding operation in March 1973. There was no chute, no mill, no office, but by October they were taking in cattle.
Fast forward a few decades and Jason runs the overall operations, his sister Kristin Stagemeyer is the CFO, and his brother Ryan manages a yard in Colorado.
Each day, the cattle feeding family brings diverse interests and skillsets, a shared trust and camaraderie to the work they do. They have one-time feeding capacity of 80,000 head, with locations near Indianola, Nebraska; McDonald and Colby, Kansas; and Holyoke and Sterling, Colorado.
Every detail matters, from pen maintenance and cattle health to balancing the books and reading bunks. Consistency in all the little things. Being attentive. Working hard. They’re not just words, but the unwritten code that makes them good cattle feeders.
This is their story. The second in the 5-part series, “A Rare Breed: Committed to Quality.”
NA Timmerman Inc. was named the 2019 Certified Angus Beef ® Feedyard Commitment to Excellence Award winner. Find more of their story by visiting www.cabcattle....
