The thing is... NO ONE will be buying this modern boxes for $1,000 in 10- 20 years like an Urza's box., because there's absolutely NO time to build any nostalgia towards any new set. No one has nostalgic for a set they liked for 2 weeks

True! If you want to make a lot of money on nostalgic items you'll need to look at what 12 year olds are into today, buy whatever that is and wait until they hit their 30-40s where they got money to spend. Even with serialized cards, limited to 500 and hence potentially rarer than Alpha rares, they'll struggle to gain any extreme value with the rate that different sets are being pumped out and the MTG market as a whole is only worth so much.

Agree. Old sets carry that nostalgia because of the length of time players played with them and used the cards. Now people are talking about 3/4/5 sets down the line, before pre-release has happened for the current one. people won't fondly remember a a set they drafted once , and the entire night was spent discussing warhammer/fallout/LOTR and not the current set

Fairly certain that the biggest whiners aren't the real Timmies, that is the casual gamers or casual collectors. Correct me if I’m wrong, the only serialized cards with different art are the Praetors from MOM correct? Why on earth are cards with same art and just low quality numbered punched in to them worth more? Blows my mind. Masterpieces and the like I totally get because they are different, exotic and rare. Serialized cards….I just can’t wrap my head around.

Serialized cards are awful. WotC is also not above reprinting serialized cards as "new" serialized variants. There are one thousand serialized chromatic lanterns, even though both variants say "x out of 500" instead.

Old Magic is for investment, The Dark set on back. New Magic is for play and with all these products at high prices, people are wallet fatigue. In addition, inflation raising the price of everything doesn’t help. Magic is practically dead in my area. Everyone is turning to commander, home brew cube, and arena. Sells are down at LGS, stores aren’t buying singles and collections anymore.

That's the problem with serialized cards in general. Even with how much more valuable they tend to be, they still aren't worth remotely enough to cover the costs of gambling for one. They're like lottery tickets and the rest of the set is what really determines any value it might have.

rudy i wanna do a pair of decks a new series scratch built nothing pre planned no colour chosen and my nephew loves pokemon and i wanna go with a deck pair equally powered but can counter can play easy maybe a one colour deck first but if mtg is still woke and pushing woke ill definately make up my own deck based on a novel and use the mechanics i have enjoyed since onslaught and mirrordin and custom make from scratch

@chim007azo Why? The game is actually good. Despite what people say it has by far the biggest player base. I took my son to a regional and just trying to register was extremely hard. They routinely get 2000+ players. I would love if FAB had so many collectors who didn't play the game

@@chrislovelace1678 2000 seems really high for a regional unless you’re including the GO and VGC players that also have e their regionals at the same time. Anyone can enter the TCG regional because there’s no qualifiers so it’s more of a convention than actual players.
