*ZOW!* I lived and worked in Santo Domingo for over four years as a military pilot consultant for the Dominican Air Force from 1990-95. The only nuisance was Balaguer and his corrupt cronies. Zona Colonial, especially the spots near the Musee del Jamon, were fantastic for ladies and the nightlife. The Jaragua Hotel was the primo spot for the Sunday brunch, coastal places over the bridge towards the aeropuerto jammed all night. Resorts along the eastern shore were full of German and Brit chicas - Bavaro, Puerto Plata, and so on. The food was amazing. De Nosotros for empanadas, or a Rico's hot dog at 2am, muy delicious! SCUBA diving, some of the best in the Caribbean. Back then, a road trip or flight to Port-au-Prince was an enjoyable and EASY mini-vacation, and the Haitian community was welcoming and very hospitable. So sad to see how the country has devolved into such crime and chaos. Obtw: A special nod to your invaluable fixer, Jeremy. Saludos!

Man you are spot on on the situation between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is on a tight situation when itp comes to helping Haiti and is often criticized by foreign entities for not doing enough as they say. But as you mentioned some of them are the one's who caused the problem itself. Ironic, no? Even though I don't agree with any types of abuse or aggressive behavior towards anyone being deported, you did point out why many who are there illegally are being removed. The DR is not a first world country and does face it's own poverty issues. Many illigal Haitians unfortunately create a toll on public resources on a country already struggling to offer it's citizens public services. What the main stream media does not portray is that no Haitian is left to to die when medical attention is required and seeks help in public hospital. Regardless of being there illegally or not. That said, I can also vouch that Haitian people are some of the hardest working people I have ever met, and those who manage to enter the RD with legal documents go there to contribute to its growth by working in agriculture and construction mainly. Hard labor work that most Dominicans don't want to do. But unfortunately there is only so many Haitians the country can support.

I'm from Haiti, and please, please, name for me one thing Rd has helped Haiti with. or tell me one time did Haiti ever asked Rd for help? and please stop lying about haitian's getting free medical care in Rd. they are not only deporting them, but steals everything they own, and some other dispeacable insult.ok

@@josephLindor-ki7op Have you been in the DR recently? Haven't right? have you seen the public hospitals and schools fluded with Haitians giving birth and small children clean with their uniforms getting a decent education? Have you been to some small towns in the DR and seen for yourself with your own eyes how Dominicans allow Haitians to work for them in their houses or business regardless of having papers or not? allowing them to live a more decent live with at least basic necessities covered? Food, a roof over their head and clean clothes on their bodies. No right. Most people get their info second hand, hear say which 99 percent of the time is inaccurate and fueled by passion and hatred. I get it that Haitian are looking to point out who is responsible for the unfortunate situation but I guarantee you, DR is not it. You need to look elsewhere. USA, Canada and France who has been sucking that country dry for centuries. Perhaps start there. I am sure there is a few police officers and immigration officials that are unfair and cruel towards illegals, bad apples for sure. But to condemn a whole nation for actions of a few it's straight out unreasonable and unfair. I encourage you to take a trip to the DR. Spend some time there. Visit some public hospitals, some schools. visit some small towns and see for yourself how the Haitian migration to the DR is affecting the local population. And how, regardless of, Haitians are treated by the average joe.

Your explanation of the greenery in haiti vs dr is so wrong. Since haiti was controlled by uneducated slaves who overthrew the French very early, they didnt follow proper European farming practices. They destroyed their own environment. The DR maintained European farming practices because it remained a colony longer. Furthermore, haitians cut the trees down for fuel and never practiced regenerative forestation.
