This is as ear-to-ear-grinning beautiful as anything I've heard across 70 years. And could not have a better ensemble for this than "Eighth Blackbird"! This "difficult music" is their briar patch.

I find it so cool that this piece and South Catalina reference each other!

Love the textures and harmonies in this piece. The parts particularly at 2:00-2:30 and 5:00 to 6:00 or so to be particularly compelling. In both those spots, but especially the first part there, I had to look at the score and say "Wait, how did he do that?!" The sounds you're pulling out of this ensemble are absolutely magical in places. That moment at around 2:14-2:32 has to be some kind of compositional wizardry.

Where'd you get that clarinet multiphonic at 2:30? Is that from Gra?? (If not, what was your source?) Harmonics used to great effect throughout on all instruments. I keep seeing one of those giant outdoor chess boards in my head. 4:32 so f*n satisfying. Thanks for that.

those multiphonics are from Phillip Rehfeldt's book, “New Directions For Clarinet”!
