SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS! MARY POPPINS MOVIE REACTION! Today I'll be watching a film I have never seen before Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews released in 1964 for the first time. Here's my Disney Mary Poppins reaction. Want to watch the ENTIRE Movie with me? Check out: / timotheereacts
When Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). Embarking on a series of fantastical adventures with Mary and her Cockney performer friend, Bert (Dick Van Dyke), the siblings try to pass on some of their nanny's sunny attitude to their preoccupied parents (David Tomlinson, Glynis Johns).

Oh, boy. I just have to tell you how Julie Andrews got the role. So, when Disney first got the idea to do this film and started casting, she was on Broadway doing My Fair Lady and Camelot. He came backstage to talk to her, and asked if she'd be interested in flying out to Hollywood to give the movie a look, see if she was interested. Her response? "Mr. Disney, I'm so sorry to tell you this, but I'm pregnant." His response? "That's okay. We'll wait."

Not only that, but Julie Andrews was married to Tony Walton, who would become the film's set/costume designer and visual consultant after Walt Disney asked Walton, "What do you do, young man" and became fascinated by his portfolio.

This is still one of the most hauntingly beautiful films ever created, and is so much deeper in its themes and characters than it is typically given credit for! I agree! Thoses songs are entertaining, charming AND have good messages. I can't say the same for the ones in the remake. Except the first one '' Can you imagine that? '' and '' The cover is not the book! '' in the nightmare world, none of them are memorable or fun. Also the moral of the movie is too simple: '' Family is good! Mary Poppins is a childhood favorite. I watched it a million times! Dick Van Dyke as Bert is great. Though the accent is very exaggerated, his positive attitude and personality was infectious! Dick Van Dyke's performance as Bert is also very good and he and Julie Andrews were one of the best screen teams in movie history. He and Julie Andrews are still good friends to this day. Dick Van Dyke is mostly known now for being in the "Night Of The Museum" film series starring Ben Stiller. You definitely should watch "Mary Poppins Returns" from 2018 with Emily Blunt playing the title role. Dick Van Dyke even has a small cameo in that film as well. This remake has some of the same mixing of live action and animation that the original "Mary Poppins" did. It's a fun movie and Emily Blunt does a good job in the lead role. For old time movies "Bedknobs And Broomsticks" from 1971 starring Angela Lansbury is an enjoyable film and old Disney films from the 1960's such as "The Parent Trap" and "That Darn Cat" both starring Hayley Mills and "The Love Bug" are enjoyable viewing as well and highly recommended for your movie channel. Good reaction!!

I second Mary Poppins Returns! A very good sequel and great homage to the original film! Even Karen Dotrice, who played Jane Banks in the original, makes a small cameo in the second film; Julie Andrews was offered a cameo as well but she turned it down as she didn’t want to draw attention away from Emily Blunt. There are quite a few recognizable faces in the newer movie though (including one just mentioned in the previous comment) 😊 and Dick Van Dyke’s cameo is epic imo, all I can say 😉

Fun fact: on that year there were two women and two movies nominated for an Oscar on the same role ( 1st actress in a musical role) Those movies were "Mary Poppins' with Julie Andrews and "My Fair Lady" with Audrey Hepburn. "My Fair Lady" ---Julie Andrews made the role in Broadway of Eliza Doolittle famous and when the movie was being cast she did not get the part that she made famous for in the theater. Julie was not happy about this. She was cast for "Mary Poppins" instead. Well, guess who won the Oscar? Its well thought that Poppins looked after Bert when he was young, which would explain why he knows so much about her but there also could be some sort of love story there, be it romantic or a bond that goes beyond love. ‘Feed the birds’ is one of my favourite Disney songs. Just a message saying a little kindness and generosity goes a long way. I always guessed that George wasn’t a terrible father. He clearly wanted to support his wife and children but he must have worked so hard all his life that he forgot to let himself enjoy it too. Mary Poppins is there to help him as much as the children. To use a Nanny McPhee theme here, when Poppins first arrived she was needed but not wanted, but once the children reconnected with their father she was wanted but not needed. When it’s the latter, Mary’s work is done and she goes.

Sadly the actor who played Michael Banks took time off in his teenage years and when he was a young man went to India where he got hepatitis. He went undiagnosed and it was too late for him and he died a year later at the age of 21, Julie Andrews won an Oscar for her role and other than The Sound of Music her most notable film was Victor/Victoria. Her late husband Director Blake Edwards also got her to go topless to break the good girl archetype in S.O.B. The maid with the red hair can be seen as Tiny Tim’s mom in an early version of A Christmas Carol called Scrooge. Dick van Dyke was on a few tv shows as well as more film like Chitty,Chitty,Bang Bang. The mom played in the Sandra Bullock film While You Were Sleeping.

The way they did the cartoon/ live action scenes were really innovative… by using multiple glass plates with elements painted on them that they could swap and move around independently, but the most amazing thing was the masking techniques used for perfect green screen cutouts… record the silhouette projected on the other side of the green screen or sheet of wallpaper instead of having someone try to cut out the green screen.

In 1945 the MGM film Anchors Aweigh combined live action with hand-drawn animation and featured a classic dance scene with Gene Kelly and Jerry from Tom and Jerry. The scene was paid homage to by Family Guy with Stewie Griffin replacing Jerry.

19:16 I think in the books Noah (as in the Ark) was a family friend or a distant relative of hers, makes sense in that light that she can understand what animals are saying. All I know for certain is that the cow who leapt over the moon (like the nursery rhyme) was a close friend of her mothers.

Dick Van Dyke’s accent wasn’t loved by many viewers, so much so that when he signed on to do Chitty Chitty Bang Bang he made sure he could use his regular American voice even though the movie is set on England. I agree with everyone who says Bedknobs and Broomsticks has this same level of fantasy and Ilive/animation mix and David Tomlinson the Father in this movie is also in that movie

The bird that sings with Mary Poppins and the umbrella were actually both animatronics. Julie Andrews was hired for the role of Mary Poppins because she could whistle so beautifully. In the movie Mary Poppins Returns (2018), Dick Van Dyke returns as an elderly banker playing Mr. Dawes, Jr., but this time he really is elderly and sings and dances in his 90s.

Somewhere in Internet there's a conspiration theory that says Mary Poppins is something of an auror (yeah like in Harry Potter) who is in charge of taking care of young wizards and witches who can't control their magical abilities and are offsprings of muggles, so she teach them how to control them so they don't become an obscurus. The Ministry is not very happy with her because of her uncommon methods (flying, and showing Magic everywhere). And Bert is a squib (son of Magic parents with no Magic) who is used to Mary Poppins methods and the Magic world and likes to help her and the children with the Magic process (also he's in love with her obviously).

😎👍 Right around the exact same time that Disney released "Mary Poppins," Warner Brothers released another much beloved film that combines live action and animation, "The Incredible Mr. Limpet." It has been decades since I last saw it, but I'll bet it still holds up. Several years ago, Jim Carrey was offered a ton of money to star in a remake, but had the good sense to turn down the offer because he intuitively realized that any reworking of it would pale in comparison to the original.

Everytime I was at my grandmothers in the 80s, this was one of the movies she had on over and over for me. Obviously I grew tired of it eventually. But as I got older the songs still stuck in my head and I rewatched and loved it. From the visual effects of the time, to the humor and catchy songs. It's a classic. Also you can behind the scenes stuff on KZbin. It was complicated to say the least. To think this was WAY before Roger Rabbit. People often forget this movie technically did it first.
