Timothy Dalton needed to portray James Bond for more films. His portrayal was so good and realistic! It was as Ian Fleming envisioned the character. Dalton's portrayal of Bond was a return to the seriousness of the Connery films and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It was needed. Daniel Craig resembles Robert Shaw as Red Grant from From Russia With Love not James Bond. Though Daniel Craig's portrayal is far better than Pierce Brosnan's

That's why he said he was approached ''3 or 4 times''. I suspect those were 1968 and/or 1971 (this is where there is conflicting info if it was approached for On Her Majesty's or Diamonds), 1981 and 1983.

Timothy Dalton is an educated, stage trained actor. This interviewer had a script, a formula. Dalton changed the image, and I don't think she was prepared for it (and it showed). He did an interview for "Wogan" on the BBC for Licence To Kill, which was much better. This was a ten minute slot, a bit of entertainment for those viewing, nothing more.
