Confession: I've never been a fan of fuzz. Just never been able to get it to work with my style & playing. In about1970 bought an original Fuzzface and paid retail from my local music store, I believe it was $29. Absolutely loved not just the pedal but discovering all the different tones and figuring out how to use them. That pedal sounds very close.

Hey, Tim, I’m pretty new here. I used to know a lot about musical “stuff” for lack of a better word. I’m kind of out of the loop about some things in my older age. I wanted to tell you that anytime fantastic guitarists came up with my kid in conversation, I would end up telling him that Rick Springfield’s guitarist was one of the best I ever heard, and that he used to absolutely blow my mind when I was younger, but I had no idea who he was. Somehow it got past me that he is you! You would have thought that when you would come up in conversation that one of us would have googled you. Just too lazy for that extreme convenience, lol. I got one a few weeks back and haven’t stopped playing it. It really is the best fuzz pedal I’ve heard. If you want to nail that Hendrix tone , a good germanium fuzz with a bias control will get you close, but the rest you won’t find in a pedal,

Man that fuzz tone is incredible. I've owned so many fuzzes over the years but I've found that it's distortion or overdrive I'm looking for when playing live. Probably because I'm one of those guys who does stack drives. I want to kick on a fuzz and use it like a boost (in volume and gain), but many times the signal just collapses at that point and disappears in the mix. It's not that the fuzz is bad, it just doesn't work with the way I used the rest of my rig. I still have a couple fuzzes nearby for fun or recording, but they don't make it out of the house much. Also, whoever edited this video - Great Job! Loved the volume knob graphic!

I have a way huge pickle fuzz pedal and it hisses unavoidably, so it was hard for me to tolerate using it. I took Tim's advice and ordered the King Tone Fuzz and as soon as I turned it on I knew I would be pleased. It was practically silent. The newer version combines the prior two into a single pedal and that creates more flexibility to find the sound you want. Anyway, as usual excellent advice from Tim.

Great lesson. I have a PRS C24 1991 And the coil split to be honest was better than all the strats I tried back then. ( cbs? ) I mean it did a better "Lenny" than a Strat. My last pedals are gonna be a fuzz and a trem chorus type all in one. This is perfect Tim!

20 minutes after I watched this video I bought one on Reverb for a very reasonable price (they are already getting super expensive) and it showed up this Monday morning. It very much is a clean clean OD to Fuzz drive pedal. If you stack it and run it under 4, it's a great boost. Well worth buying. When I say it's Clean, I plugged a microphone in and blew harp for a while with no squealing or harsh transients.

I always used to have my volume on 10 until I hear Eddie Van Halen one day saying he has his amps blasted but he turned his guitar to 10 and slightly backed if off a hair. It truly does make such a difference.

Wonderful tones Tim! Your house rig is absolutely insane man! I love how you are fully analog dedicated into Pro Tools. That's the way I learned back in the 90's-early 2000's how to record. I've unfortunately as of late been forced to mostly go digital these days due to now living in an apartment, and also from "The Great Covid Gear Purge" that cost me all of my low watt tube amps and a great deal of my pedals and guitars. Amp sims, digital post FX, and IR's aren't what's been the biggest hurdle for me as much as digital sims of Fuzz, Wah, OD, and distortion, and attempting to use analog pedals straight into my interface has also been less than ideal. That said? I have just recently experimented with a quick and inexpensive solution that I think seems to provide that "feel" of boosting a physical amp! I've began incorporating a Vox Valve Energy (Nu-Tube) series Silk Drive preamp w/ a NU-X Fet boost to record direct to amp sims. I've found that by setting the Vox pedal always on to "preamp" mode & clean-ish (just barely clipping), and then the NU-X to it's colored (crunch) boost setting? I can now run both direct into my interface and basically into any amp sim with convincing results! This method also allows me to use all my other typical front of amp analog pedals with glee, although a noise suppressor/gate would be ideal when extreme gain stacking. Wait... Am I rambling on again about gear?! Ha! Yeah, I do that sometimes. Anyway... I hope my comment perhaps helps anyone with a mutual analog past who's now confronting a digital present? Seriously, Thank you soo much for everything you do Tim, and thanks even more for inspiring people like myself to never give up no matter what life throws at you! I'm forever grateful! Wow you're the only other person I saw bend a string down instead of up. I had a few lessons in my early teens & my guitar teacher told me I can't bend the string down. He said what do you do when play the top E string..? I replied with what do you do when you play bottom E string? He said you don't bend bottom E string..I've bending bottom E on solos ever since!

I bought one of these back in December! I stack it with the yellow side of a king of tone with a Les Paul (tone knob rolled all the way off). It sounds amazing! Great for slide or if you just want a greasy lead tone!

The recently released Dunlop JHMS1 is a great alternative to this pedal in a smaller size (not tone). It has both silicone/germanium options and a buffer switch too. I found that running a comp in front of the fuzz was similar to switching the buffer on.

It's not just Fuzz. Overdrives, boosts and tube amps all do the same cleanup thing as you roll back your volume knob. Any effect controlled by some kind of envelope detection... auto-wah or any fancy "swell" or "reverse" reverb or delay is going to be responsive to the amount of output. ---- Which is pretty much why I personally can't ever get fully in love with humbucker-loaded guitars. They simply don't have the same dynamism from 3 to 10 on the volume knob. I love what a humbucker does... but never enough to offset the 7 things the neck pickup on a Stat does.

I've said the same thing for 40 years. A strat, a vintage, 4 hole Marshall screwed up to fill tilt boogie with a fuzz face in front of it, is God-like... CONTROLLING the fuzz faced onslaught of sonic volume IS like controlling a completely separate instrument. Hendrix knew it..

Another trick with Fuzz Face pedals is adding a compressor AFTER the Fuzz, I get whole range of tones big and juicy w/ sizzle and shimmering harmonics. Silicon FF, BC108 transistors I feel are the best for stability and tone, Germanium is just too finnicky w/ temp changes and you constantly have to be fiddling with it.
