What a car from Skoda. It has soo much room. In fact, it is more practical than a Golf, Focus, Ceed and Megane! Literally! Do you need a Skoda Scala when you could save some cash and buy this? By the way, the compartment in the back seats, the way it is layer out reminds me of a strict 2 seater variant in the back of an Maybach S680!

Skoda have really come a long way now; their cars are awesome; I looked at the current Fabia, Scala and finally settled on the Octavia when I bought mine; but said to my sister I could have been happy and enjoyed any of them. Obviously couldn't stretch to a Superb but I do like the lack of knobs inside mine.

I can’t wait to try one as a hire car in Czechia when I’m allowed to visit again one day. No need to go up a class, now the Fabia is on an MBQ platform 😀 Thanks to Brexit I’m here all alone, watching TRDS, while my other half is enjoying the Schnitzel and Budvar 🤨

Hopefully they do another Monte Carlo spec for this gen. The old one (1.0 triple, manual, sports suspension, 16” wheels) was little gem of a motor. Like an Up GTi but with a proper boot.

nah man .. the older 1.2 TSI pre-facelift 6 speed manual 4-cyl that didnt yet have a particle filter (the earliest versions of the 1.0 didnt have it either) was the engine to have. You could easily drive at 1500 RPM on a flat road or a very slight uphill without any hint of engine struggle. (I have had A LOT of Fabias and some other Skodas through operational leasing ) Ever since they swapped to 3-cyl you couldnt do that .. there are more weights to balance the engine and stuff . .you can hear the engine struggling under 1800 RPM .. 2000 is ofc ideal . I once drove the 85 kW 1.0 Scala before they swapped it for the 81 kW engine too .. felt like it was insanely quiet compared to any fabia. Im interested to see if the 81kW Scala feels the same. (im not sure whether the 81 kW fabia engines and 85 kw Scala engines were the same at the time just tuned differently ) . Anyway I couldve ordered the new fabia but I ordered Kamiq in this new Phoenix Orange color and with the 1.5 liter TSI 110 kW (150 hp) 6 speed manual :D

Great review as always Tim. I had a 2004 vRS absolutely loved it to bits and not ashamed to say I shed a tear when I sold it...why did I sell it...🤦🏻♂️. Now my daughter has a 2000 1.4 Classic and yep you guessed it, loves it to bits. The Mk4 looks like a great bit of kit, especially with a boot the same size as the Golf, how did they manage that...🤷🏻♂️ Thanks again...🎩

UK prices are being announced in September - the 1.5 is really really good in other VWG cars, but I predict it may make the Fabia quite expensive if you go for it. I guess we’ll find out next month!

Sorry Ray, but that sounds like the comment from someone who didn’t hear the bit where I said the car is top of the range, and that lower spec cars get smaller infotainment screen.
