I went on this railway in 2006 when myself and my grandparents all stayed in Brixham. It's a fantastic place to visit with a great shop. I always remember my excitement when I bought a hornby class 47 diesel loco. My first main line. Well worth a visit. I'd love to come back diesel.

The first time I visited, the rails were still in place to the original terminus at Ashburton. It has matured into a wonderful recreation of a West Country branch line the the 50's. I have returned many times over the years taking my own children to both the railway and nearby butterfly farm, on one occasion I was able to catch the train into Totnes mainline station. I remember the "Merrymaker" excursions well, didn't always know the destination. The last one I caught started at Brighton and ended up at Chester with optional road coaches to the Zoo or Lever Brothers Soap Works, a great day out. Over the years I have visited the Dart Valley/South Devon Railway a number of times (a friendly welcome is guaranteed). I asked the driver if it was OK to clamp my GoPro the his engine, he smiled and said "OK". He then said "If these things catch on I suppose my engine will be bristling with them".

Hello Tim! Nice to hear once again a steam locomotive. It is very well adjusted. You hear this immediately. In my youthful days there were still steam trains on our railway line. 10 years later I was then even a station manager on our route from Linz to Summerau. Greetings from the Mühlviertel to UK.
@Timsvideochannel17 жыл бұрын
Hello Johann, I too remember steam trains on the main line. There were three each day, the rest of the trains were electric. There was an express from Brighton to Exeter and return every day, plus a freight that stopped outside our house every night at 10 o,clock. I didn't take much notice of them at the time, now I really wish I could slip back in time to see them again. You must have good memories from your days as station manager. Next week I will go to the former Yugoslavia to see the last real working steam in Europe. It is nice to hear from you, best wishes from West Sussex, UK.

The maximum speed is 25 mph. The level crossing gates are all part of re-creating a country branch line, I hope there are no plans to replace them. We are very lucky in the UK to have so many wonderful heritage railways, re-creating all kinds scenes from a bygone age and steam still runs on the main line at express speeds. I think you would find a visit to line worthwhile, the friendly staff and volunteers want you to enjoy their railway, which I find every bit as rewarding as the railway itself

I believe there was a 5 mph speed limit because tree felling was taking place near the line. This is a re-creation of a typical Great Western Branch line, with local trains meandering about their daily business. The gradients are gentle and the line was not built for speed, so small engines are up to the job. The engines still sound great as they pull away from the stations. Thanks for your comments. Tim.

Thank you for your reply. The temporary limits look right to me for that reason given, so without those, just the level crossing. Are they going to put barriers on that eventually? Little locomotives are great, they work well on these small routes I agree - with great sounds! What is the maximum line speed? 30mph at maximum I would have thought, probably more common 25, 20 in places? Cheers for the comment, Emmerdale is real edge of your seat stuff, if your not a murderer, then you are murdered and do any of the women stay faithful, not that I would admit to watching it. Tim.

Bonita linea. Bonito el video, como todos los de este Canal. Una pregunta: Esta línea de ferrocarril es sólo para uso turístico o la utilizan otro tipo de trenes? Enhorabuena. Saludos desde España.

Hi, thank you for commenting, this is a tourist railway and it is only used by tourist trains. Best Wishes .... Tim.

It's a nice little run and the engine noise is almost musical. Percussive at least. Chuff-Chuff, Chuff-Chuff (click), Chuff-Chuff, Chuff-Chuff (click), Repeat until sleeping. :)

Everything about this line is relaxing, a friendly welcome is guaranteed, the scenery along the line is pretty and the little pannier tank engine fits in perfectly with the relaxed pace of life in Devon.

Oops "Fireman's Eye View". Hi the camera is a small action camera intended for people who enjoy dangerous sports such as skiing and mountain bike riding, it can be mounted in many different ways, in this instance I used a standard clamp accessory clamped to the handrail.

Used to see those London Transport Pannier tanks at Neasden Shed in the 60s now there’s a shitty apartment block where the shed was.
@Timsvideochannel14 жыл бұрын
I can also remember seeing the engines back in my train spotting days, although I never saw one in steam, I wish I'd taken more notice of the London Transport trains, I was too busy chasing Westerns, Warships, Hymeks and the iconic Blue Pullmans on the lines out of Paddington. Everywhere I look in London now I see new or still under construction apartment blocks, the views from the train on entering Victoria, especially crossing the Thames have changed almost beyond recognition.

@@Timsvideochannel1 Yes in the 1960s the underground Metropolitan line ran electric locomotives on the Chesham route, with coaches rather than units.If we went train spotting in Southern lines we’d get the Met from Harrow on the Hill. London Transport sold a RedRover ticket that could be used on buses and underground.Good videos thanks and stay safe.

@@likklej8 I have a model of "Sarah Siddons", it makes a nice addition to my model railway. I believe I saw one of the locomotives run past my home on the south coast with a special many years ago, I didn't know they could run on the Southern electrified network - th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.J1sB8GXwNy9YfrWwHVSVBAHaFC?pid=Api&rs=1 It is not one of my photos, but it does show "Sarah Siddons" on the Southern. Happy memories, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. Take care. Tim.

Devon, é um dos mais belos municípios da Inglaterra e a viagem no trem que corre ao lado do rio é um dos meus lugares favoritos para estar. Devon, is one of the most beautiful counties in England and the travelling in the train running next to the river is one of my favourite places to be.

Pannier tank engines and West Country branch lines in the 50's. This is a wonderful recreation of a bygone age.

Its is our intention to return both 1420 and 4920 to service in the future. They will be in the works after 6412 and 5526. 4920's livery will be decided by the Dumbleton Hall Preservation Society and 1420's, I assume, the SDR association. L92 looks alright Maroon, but BR black is her most authentic other livery. Her livery is chosen by her owners, the Worcester Locomotive Society.

In reply to 5786Thomas,if 5786 was built in 1930 it could have carried three diff GWR green styles. Pre 1934 GREAT WESTERN on the tanks,1934-1941 shirtbutton monogram and 1941-1947 GWR. That's three GWR styles not just GWR which came out in 1941.BR black is sooo depressing on such lovely machines , thou LT red is better.

That first signal in the centre of the gantry shouldn't have been at 'clear', would have meant there was a train heading towards us.
@Timsvideochannel19 жыл бұрын
+Ian Pethers I had not noticed the signal until you mentioned it. On the day I visited there was only one train running, so I am guessing the railway was set up for one engine in steam on the day.
@ianpethers75399 жыл бұрын
Yes, I thought that might be the case, mustn't take it too seriously, the drivers know what they are doing.
@rogerresch14064 жыл бұрын
What it actually meant was that the signal box was switched out, in which case it is quite normal to have signals off in both directions.

As she was built in 1930, I believe she would only have carried Middle Chrome green with the characters G W R on the tanks. The it would have been BR black then LT Maroon.

She was in GWR green prior to 2009 when the WLS repainted her into BR black, the first time she had been black for a long time. Im not 100% sure on the livery thing, I only know her history, not the liveries. Sorry.
