He Helped Me Clean Up This UNBELIEVABLE Overgrown Yard

I quoted for this overgrown yard before we were hit with all the rain so I've been trying to get here for weeks. It's dried enough for me to get out and mow down this overgrown buffalo / St Augustine grass. As always, it was worse than expected but we did take all the grass again.
I have a helper today for this clean up. It was a nice change to have someone to help with the work.

Carthic does one of the manicured lawns and he is brave enough to try one with runners as tall as you are??? Brave soul. The hazardous part is this is Landscape Archeology, literally not being able to see what exists under that mass. Two people trying different approaches to work out how to get it done. Good idea. I like that someone was thoughtful and built a ramp to the upper area. Your heroic small mower is doing well. Two talented people working on it at once, it is interesting how fast you are getting it back in shape. You two got a lot done, bit by bit it was moved to being orderly and with good lines.

Watching you weed wack that tall grass, this is the same thing AP does on his tall grass (Clean the City). Then he’ll come back with a mower. This was a ton of work!! So worth it in the end. Absolutely amazing job!

Whoooeee. That back yard was a true test for the equipment! That is some gnarly stuff but it looks a lot better now. The front wasnt as nasty it almost looks like a regular lawn now. Good job men!

This is such a blessing watching how you young men work to help others ! I am 90 yrs old and a dear friend ( he’s over 70 and disabled ) sees that my yard is kept mowed and edged at his expense ! He and his family claim me as family , and care for me that way ! I do have a very small front yard , but the backyard is larger ! Fence lines are kept as well !Only God knows how I appreciate and loves hem ! So , sirs you are a blessing !😍👏🏻🇺🇸 So. Texas!❤️🙏

Love, love, love your projects and this collaboration with Obsessive Lawnie is fabulous. I had never mowed a lawn or gone near a mower until I lost my husband and I had to learn all the tricks from scratch. Now I find it one of the most cathartic and satisfying things to do. I have bought a whipper snipper, an electric hedge clipper and pruning saw and I am the mistress of my own garden. I do like to leave patches of 'bee lawns' as a neighbour has beehives and there is such a diversity of grasses and plants. But that feeling when the last edge has been straightened and the last blade has been mowed into submission is soooo satisfying.

I have a neighbor who didn't cut his grass and it was at least four feet tall. He finally cut it and his lawnmower kept stalling on him and he ended up using a weed wacker. It took him all day! If he had just mowed it once a week, he would have saved himself a lot of time. But noooo, he had to go golfing.

Just found your channel. Victorian here. How I dislike buffalo grass, I've been digging (mattocking and 1 foot down) an area of it up for a vegie patch. Oh my goodness the time it is taking and trying to get it done before the warmer weather is here in between all the rain. About another 3 square metres to go. I'd never plant it for a lawn, but that is what is here.

Morning Timothy, I think there was more work than we realised! It looks so much more tidy, and a few more trips with the lawn mover will bring it to perfection. Having such a pristine lawn which Carthic manages, I wonder what his thoughts were when he saw that long grass. It will be such a neat and tidy home once all the lawns are under control. It would be interesting to see a lawn scythe used on grass like this, it would cut right thru the tall grass.

I was just gonna comment that. I reckon the scythe to start with to get all the length out then rake it up before lawnmower with catcher on.

Scythes work best on upright grass. A scythe would not get under the flat runners, the weight would be a problem too. A quality brush cutter, cutting down from above the weeds is a good option. Cutting side to side in this can be hard on your body and tangle the machine al the time.
