Very good idea. I would put the pipe higher than the post to Wine up without hitting the post.

Brilliant idea, if you’re still in contact with him, let him know there is a ratcheting version of what he’s using. This would mean you wouldn’t have to remove the crank handle and use the next hole, just back and forth like any ratchet handle. He’s made these out of truck tie down ratchet mechanisms that are normally mounted to trucks, lengthened the tube in the middle massively. Again, beautiful design and so wonderfully simple.

Nice work! One of the best features of a cocky gate is missing though. A part that wacks untrained and unauthorized people in the face when they use it :-)

Built a version of this years but had a crank handle permanently attached, definitely good for over 100 foot. But save yourself the effort and use black plastic droppers instead of cut steel makes it much lighter.

Also Tim question, your a man who knows wire knots and a challenge to you, what knots are out there for joining 3.15mm soft wire to Iowa barb, I've tried a few but they end up looking messy, and I'm always keen to improve my skills
@FarmLearningTim7 ай бұрын
I've got one I haven't edited yet on joining different wires... But I'd go with a figure 8 on that one. Ends up very neat.

We bought a neighbouring property, and old mate took off all the swinging gates and replaced them with cookie’s gates. Made of 4 strands of barb and some old timber slats from his sheep shed. I was so damn angry, and yet admired he had the balls to do that! Bloody old buggar died with his first penny, richest man in the cemetery 😂

Basically it is known as a version of the "Taranaki Gate", which is named for a region in New Zealand. The concept is over 150 years old, if not older

@@FarmLearningTim , that 't' piece is not what i meant. i would be making a handle like you use to start an old car. not suitable for the post bolted to the steel shed column but convenient for the fence post one.
