Seriously. Just coming in right in the middle of the final stretch. Literally. I mean, Telemachus’ entrance doesn’t hit hard unless you know his motif and Mico’s voice can sound like Jorge’s. Nor would you understand the significance of “mercy”. There’s also the chant in the background that’s actually saying something. Also the r word. That will sound like completely out of left field for a newbie. Still! It’s cool that he still felt the impact of it all. Especially during the mercy part when he got goosebumps. I’d say it’s a testament to everyone’s work.

Epic is such an incredible musical, most of the "main" characters actually have specific instruments, or even specific themes. For example, Odysseus' instrument is the guitar that u can really hear at 1:29. In some songs its more acoustic, but when he gets angry its more electronic. Like everyone else is commenting, the best experience is to listen from the beginning to end. It starts off much lighter, and gets darker as the songs progress. However if you are just looking for a few songs to react to "God Games" has 7 unique singers all coming together for an incredible song, its 100% a fan favorite.

You talked a lot about how great some of the singers in the project are, but the unbelievable thing is that most of the singers in this song only ever appear in this one song. This speaks a lot about the quality of the project itself because if those single song characters are so well voiced you can imagine how amazing the main singer (Odysseus), who ironically does not actually sing much in this song titled after him, and all the other "main" characters are. This project has been a occupying a large section of my brain rent free since February and I'm so excited where they'll go with it now that the concept album is done. Thank you for your great reaction and welcome to the EPIC fandom.

@@TimWelchVocalStudio Indeed. As Coveredinbees93 stated, only Odysseus (the starting vocalist) and Telemachus (The prince) are recurring voices/major characters. While the other vocalists are indeed good, it speaks volumes to the many other voices of main characters that these voices don't shine nearly as bright.
@KoriTheAnder2 күн бұрын
There are some cool "rules" and stuff with the musical. Like how every character has a signature instrument. There are countless motifs in the music, but the most famous one is the "danger is nearby" motif that I wonder if you could spot after a few sagas. Also when it comes to backing vocals, if it is a human character in the lead, the ensemble is coming from something in the environment (other humans/spirits) but if it's a god singing they can just summon a choir as a show of their power.

Every instrument, every note placement, every motif, all of it is so integral to each piece, it’s a masterful work. So cool to see you pick up this series! With Epic, you really have to start from the beginning and go in order to get the full effect. Jorge Rivera-Herrans (the creator of the musical and voice of Odysseus) has said that he was inspired by Peter and The Wolf, so each character in Epic has their own signature instrument within the backing track, and there's a ton of little leitmotifs that are always being called back to in later songs, so you can pretty much always tell what's happening if you pay close attention to the instrumentals. There should be a full playlist of all the sagas in order, but you should look into "The Horse and the Infant" and "Just a Man" next. :)

Oh, you need to go from the beginning- there's so many intwined musical themes that are built from the start! If you want one long official run through, Jorge Rivera Herrans (the writer and creator) posted the entire thing with canon animatics on his channel; if you want the fan animatics (which are more animated than many of Jorge's pieces), there are a number of youtube playlists that show them in order. Jorge also has a playlist with just the songs in order, as well, if you want only music (personally, I think you should do some form of visuals, it was written as a musical and visual piece). Maybe reach out to Moritus, another content creator, he's been making a project out of recommending the best animatics. But welcome to the fandom for this wonderful, amazing musical- I don't think there's any song in the entire playlist that's less than good. Most and beyond great!

Starting from the end means if/when you listen to the rest of it, you'll come back to this one and relisten and catch all the musical references. This song has a lot of moments that refer back to other songs both musically and story-wise, and the full impact is lost without them. Moments like "he's aiming for the torches," "let's have open arms instead" and the instruments and melody used when Telemachus (the prince) appears, they all hit so much harder after hearing the rest of the songs.

I promise you: when you listen to the full musical and then come back to this song it will hit SO different. That's not just because you will know the context but because it is full of motifs from previous songs that make it so much more emotional and so much of the things they say way more meaningful! That's also because many of those motifs represent a specific aspect of Ody's journey and character development (e.g. "just a man" stands for his humanity and also helplessness in the face of impossible and cruel challenges, so every time characters give in to temptations or feel weak, you will hear "just an man" play. Or "open arms" represents choosing peace.) That's why it's sooo important to listen to the musical in the coreect order!

PLEASE listen to the whole musical!! The motifs laced throughout it are absolutely gorgeous and truly tie the whole show together. This song is near the very end of the show and contains several motifs that show how the character(s) involved have grown and changed throughout the show. “Saga” is the term the creator chose to use to describe a particular story arc within the overall show, usually revolving around a particular antagonist or location. While it’s very hard to choose the “best” songs from the show, as they’re all wonderful in many people’s opinions (including my own), if I had to pick a set for you to listen to instead of the whole show, I’d recommend Just a Man, Warrior of the Mind, Ruthlessness, No longer You, Wouldn’t You Like, Thunder Bringer, Get in the Water, and Would You Fall in Love with Me Again. These songs do NOT tell the full story by a long shot, but they’re an excellent set to show the depth and dynamic nature of the songs in the musical. Though again, I would HIGHLY recommend listening through the whole thing. If you want to listen to it all, then in order, the sagas (albums) are: The Troy Saga The Cyclops Saga The Ocean Saga The Circe Saga The Underworld Saga The Thunder Saga The Wisdom Saga The Vengeance Saga The Ithaca Saga

PLEASE DO MORE FROM EPIC! You will not be disappointed! This musical is SO GOOD If you do... Start from the beginning with, "The horse and the infant". There are currently 2 versions of the audio (legal disputes caused the creator to have to remake the first 9 songs, they are very similar, but the original mix is better in most of those 9 songs). The original audio is hard to find, but the best way to find it is through an animatic titled: "The Horse and The Infant | Epic: the musical Animatic (FLASH WARNING)", by Gigi. Overall, most of the songs from this musical have animatics made by independent artists that give some visual context. The first 2 "sagas" (Troy Saga and Cyclops Saga) are extremely good at audio story telling to the point that you don't really need any animatics to figure out exactly what's happening. As the story gets more complex, some of the animatics provide necessary context to the story that the songs don't give. Many reactors find a good playlist of animatics and just run through the musical, 1 saga at a time (a "saga" is the term the creator used to divide up the story arcs". BE CAREFUL, some animatics were made months after a lot of the later songs came out, and for whatever reason, the animators decided to put massive spoilers in the visuals that the songs aren't supposed to have (looking at you "Gwendy | NS2D Studios"). Each song has random amounts of animatics, just depending on who decided to make them. Some songs have multiple GREAT animatics, and some still don't have any really good ones. In general, there are some animators that are consistently top tier. Always look for these creators for animatics first: -Gigi or Mircsy (the absolute best animatics are from these 2) -Niel the Illustrator (excels at super interesting story creativity with Gods/bosses) -Duvetbox (Some of the best narrative driven animatics out there) The next animators, if none of the above made any -AnniFlamma -Wolfythewitch -Ximena Natzel

Though it would be quite a project, I definitely recommend listening to the whole of Epic if this song made you curious since this song is one of the final songs of the musical and therefore a lot of emotional payoff is probably lost on you. (And just a week ago the Ithaca Saga came out, and the song you reacted to is one of the songs from this final saga, so you won't have to wait for the rest to be released :)) Should you decide you want to listen from the beginning, the first saga is The Troy Saga, the first song is The Horse and the Infant, starting with the invasion of Troy) Just some fun facts about this song in particular (because I saw some comments explaining more about Epic as a whole): For almost all of its runtime, Epic follows Odysseus on his journey back home and until the third to last saga we follow exclusively him. It is focusses a lot on his struggles with his morals and justifying doing terrible things to get back to his wife and son - and how that changes him. All the songs that feature a monster and that detail how he encounters and fights them have the monster's name in the title ("Polephemus", "Scylla", "Charybdis" - which are not gods, for gods the rule doesn't count exactly, but those songs are usually named after a description of said (half)god). And in "Odysseus", he is the "final boss", as the creator Jorge Rivera-Herrans aptly put it. We can see how terrifying he is from the perspective of others for the first time, since this "Odysseus" is following the suitors (the other men singing who all want to marry Odysseus's wife Penelope in the king's absence). Up until then it was always focussed on Odysseus The part where the suitors sing "hold him down" is a callback to the previous song (something that Jorge does *expertly* and a lot - and which might be one of my favourite things about epic concerning the music and melodies). As some other's stated already, the pivotal characters have their own instruments, which allows for amazing textpainting (if that is the correct word here). I don't know how familiar you are with The Odyssey, but Athena mentors Odysseus and then later his son Telemachus. So when the prince appears, you can hear Athena's instrument and the melody Telemachus is introduced with (from the song Legendary), another example for a reference to a previous song. If you just want to experience some cool vocals, I would recommend Scylla, Just a Man, Warrior of the Mind, My Goodbye and Ruthlessness :)) (I just noticed these are all from the first half except for Scylla but these are some of my faves)

Jorge Herrans-Riviera, the guy who created and led this project, recruited auditions from TikTok and other social media instead of holding traditional auditions. Since not everyone could record in the same studio and many had never sang in a musical production before, that explains the pitch correction and why it has to be so over engineered. You really should listen to the whole production though, it's well worth it. You started at the end, so you got a lot of the emotions so now that you're interested it's definitely worth a listen from start to end.

This is CRAZY to go in as your first. For a lot of people their first is Get In The Water, but it does need to be listened to in order from beginning to end. The creator, Jorge Rivera Herrans has a full playlist of the albums in order. The livestreams on his channel contain official animatics if there are any story points that feel unclear just from the music, there are many MANY fan animatics, but most are not canon and should be regarded as fan art and not official interpretations of the story. Jorge has done a lot of incredible work with the instrumentals and motifs and once youre familiar with the main ones it's incredible to break the later songs down. This song itself contains melodical and lyrical callbacks to "The Horse & The Infant", "600 Men", "Open Arms", "Polyphemus", "Monster", "Scylla" and like one or two others. Incredible composing work by Jorge I could go on for hours

You called it on the electronic elements, its important to the way Jorge does the Gods songs. The gods can do certain things mortal characters can't, they use electronic elements and can create their own choruses. In this, Odysseus has just crossed from mortal into something more, almost god-like, which in turn changes his music. It's crazy

A lot of people have added really great ideas and context, something I haven't seen brought up yet is there are a lot of incredible artists on youtube who make animatics/animations for Epic songs. Sometimes it can be harder to follow the plot and characters of a song, if that's something you want to highlight it could be really cool to listen alongside and animatic as well.
@J__T3 күн бұрын
So I loved your reaction. Others have told you you're basically at the end rather than the beginning and I hope you stick with the releases for the first listen at least (the animatics are fun too). If you would, when you go thru the sagas in order re-react to this one with all the context you gain. I ask because you noticed the theme changes, thankfully, and the each character has their own theme along with their own instrument. For instance, and without spoiler as much as possible, when the Prince appeared, you heard his theme alongside another I won't say whose. But *you* noticed both which is why I think you'll like the full album.

So Fun fact, this song is actually from a concept album, so they're still working on the full thing!

The mix of horror and amusement in your face during the song is amazing LMAO, everyone’s been saying so I’ll follow the flow and suggest you to listen from the beginning! As much as I really like the song I feel like there are songs that explore the character’s vocals more, so you might find it interesting! Fun facts: 1- Jay Herrans’s is the creator and voices the protagonist, he also wrote the lyrics for the songs! 2- each character has an specific instrumental that plays when they sing (which I personally love). 3- there are plenty of animatics of each songs around KZbin (fan animatics and some that Jay commissioned himself) so it might make it easier to understand what’s going on

Things to keep in mind: 1) Individual character vocals and backgrounds. 2) Character instruments. 3) Musical motifs for various situations. 4) Repeating vocals, musical motifs and the melody they're sung in. There's amazing storytelling in how a word is sung. Even more than who sings it.

This musical is genuinely so good and interesting. Every character has their own instrument and/or melody, there is a lot of references to older songs in the sagas. You should definitly listen to it from the beginning! You can find the order in the comments, else there is a playlist with beautiful animatics that have been made

This song is actually one of the last ones of the musical (and honestly not that interesting vocally). I would recommend you to listen to the first two songs "The Horse and the Infant" and "Just a Man". Other songs that I think that are interesting to analyze would be "ruthlessness", "thunder bringer", "scylla", "wouldn't you like", "there are other ways", "no longer you", "monster", "hold them down" and "would you fall in love with me again" (the last song). This musical has a lot of characters, so each song has different dynamics and vocal showcases

Please do a reaction to the whole series ❤ the build up to what you have heard now is insane. Every saga is incredible in it's own way. The detail Jorge puts into everything is something i think you would appreciate. If you do a reaction please do it one saga at a time and not song by song bc it's connects in a different way. The animatics are a plus if you want to catch everything that's going on

You mentioned that there was a lot of editing/pitch correction. While I’m not on the team working directly with the singers, I do have an idea of why this is. Jorge opened auditions to the entire community, regardless of skill level. He wanted the right voice, the voice that fit the vibes of the characters, but that voice doesn’t necessarily have to be super skilled or even have any vocal training. If you’re the right voice they’ll make it work, which I suppose would be the editing

The artist, Jorge Rivera-Herrans, has a KZbin channel with a video titled "EPIC: The Ithaca Saga PREMIERE PARTY" that's about 2 1/2 hours long with all 40 songs, as well as animatics that make the story more clear. Alternatively, he has a playlist with all the individual songs in order, but they lack the animatics and brief text prompts that explain what actors would be doing in the moment.
