I love your reaction. I agree with you that there are times when Dimash’s voice has been ‘corrected’ and I do prefer his natural singing voice. There are dozens (at least) of videos where we can see that natural raw talent. Imagine being a lesser singer than Dimash and thinking that if *his* voice isn’t (supposedly) good enough to not need correction, what chance do ‘I’ have? I know that sometimes it seems necessary (sickness, event stipulation, perhaps) but Dimash has a God-given talent. Other than rare cases, I don’t think anyone needs to “correct” it. Anyway, I appreciate your honesty.

I'm a generally creative person, but have literally zero musical ability, but I still find these breakdowns just fascinating. Hearing experts discuss the minutiae of these musical performances increases my appreciation for the skill and practice it took to make these things real.

She is still barely an adult , only 18 years old. voices continue to mature after that. Ella Fitzgerald also comes to my mind. There's a noticeable change in her voice between her early days with Chick Webb. Her voice is comparatively light in songs like "A-Tisket, A -Tasket". Her voice mature and became richer in the 50's and 60's. So I wonder what her voice will be like in another 10 or 20 years.

This seems to be manually pitch corrected, except for the lower notes. There's so much lying about pitch correction around. That's why I follow mainly singers in the Philippines where they usually do not use pitch correction or live autotune in their variety shows, their singing competitions, or concerts. This is my favorite singer, Jona Viray. She has a great tone and resonance in her lower end mid range and has a super high range also, and she sings many styles, even classical. She does a great version of The Show Must Go On--although there is reverb there is no pitch correction. This is from the long run Sunday afternoon variety show ASAP: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpjae2uFnNx-m6s Here's one of my favorite performances by Jona, Lady Gaga's I'll Never Love Again, live in concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIDMpXiCfNGBos0 This is from her 34th birthday celebration on ASAP about a year ago--I'm Here from The Color Purple: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5vamKZsZ92Hf8U And finally, a recent performance on ASAP of Five Years by Sugar Hiccup, first released in 1995--a wordless song, except for one line, that shows her extreme range: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYa0oWZrnbyMac0

I like Dimash, but I need to make a disclaimer. He participated in The Singer early in his career, and not all of his performances were great or even good (some songs just weren't a good fit for him). I’d recommend checking out a song he wrote in his native language called Omir. Be sure to watch it with English subtitles, I suggest the version titled "Mood Video." ❤

When I first heard this and listening now again, at 11:12 it sounds to me a lot like the Sia/Christina Aguilera *You Lost Me* , one of my favorite songs (Sia is a genius songwriter, in my opinion). But I think you should be aware that although Lady Gaga wore that same outfit for the interview part of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show before the performance, which played after a commercial break, and Lady Gaga is singing it live originally, it was not a live broadcast on the show, because it is completely pitch corrected in post production, but very artfully done so most people, including yourself, I guess, don't seem to notice it. But I could hear it and I analyzed it in Vocal Pitch Monitor, and although they retain the texture of her voice, more or less, and some slides, every note is completely centered on the pitch line. You never see that in a natural vocal, even with the best singers in the world, or in history. So it's basically a studio recording. The fact that it's on Lady Gaga's Vevo channel and not Jimmy Kimmel's channel supports that.

I love this comment thank you. This is something I wrestle with a lot with this channel, I hear a lot of post vocal processing I don’t talk about because i’ve noticed that it becomes all about that when I do. I found there’s so much I can talk about in the vocals around it that sometimes I just bypass that whole controversy. Lately, especially with my Dimash reactions, i’ve been talking about it more. I’m working on how to bring it up in such a way that the fan base I bring it up to doesn’t feel attacked. I got a lot of heat for saying that I thought some metal vocals were doctored on my metal channel. Not pitch corrected, but depth of tone added.
@fredbloggs608018 сағат бұрын
@@TimWelchVocalStudio I can understand that but sometimes the situation is so bad that it completely obliterated the qualities of the voice so I would think it would be hard to talk about those. In the case of Lady Gaga in this video, they preserve a lot of her inflection but when you praise her pitch accuracy, you should give the audio engineer credit also. That's a joke. The funny thing is, sometimes when it's pitch corrected, it is not actually what sounds the most perfectly pitched, especially if it doesn't coincide with the tuning of the band, for example, or if it fights the expression the artist is trying to put in, so it actually sounds off pitch.

I first saw and heard her perform in early October on the American Music Awards where she performed It's a Man's Man's Man's World (although they usually just call it It's a Man's World, which isn't the correct title). I thought she was great. She even does scatting at the end. That performance is better than one she did at a festival earlier, at least the production is better. Here is the link, although I doubt you'd be able to use it because the AMA has pretty tight of copyright control. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGm2eH6rnZuAq9E

Maybe someone has mentioned this among the 247 comments, but Angelina performed feeling good about seven months before this performance outdoors to a large crowd in Norway, and in some ways I think it's more impressive because of the camera work and her belts are more extended. The only thing is, the first half or more of the song is a little more staccato, maybe you could consider it more jazzy, I don't know, but that difference to when she opens up looking even younger, with the swooping camera work, just gives goosebumps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXnEfqmhm9F1d9E

She was born to sing jazz (or jazz inspired). I actually don’t really like the « Hollywood » version of her and her songs. It feels forced and not her. She is at her best when she lets her hair down and sings expressively.

If you watched the rehearsal for the Vegas show you would know that AJ was having problems with the mic, the feedback was a problem, so the mic was set to pick up her voice when she was very close. If she gets even a foot from the mic you lose her voice. Actually, AJ song 23 songs in the Vegas, and there were two shows within 2 or 3 hours. Don't judge her vocals in Vegas because the videos were not professional done.

In my 77 years of listening to the best the industry has to offer; I have never experienced anyone that even comes close to the ability that AJ possesses. There are over 150 videos of this genius on KZbin that are a testament to this unrivaled talent.

It is hard to compare the videos audio because the version when AJ was 10 was done professionally and Vegas version was done with more than likely a smart phone.

How does one rate this performance when there is nothing on this level to compare it to? Angelina Jordan's jazzy version of "Bad Valentine" is indeed a testament to her monumental talent. The stripped-down arrangement really highlights her vocal nuances and the emotional depth she brings to the performance. Her collaboration with Toby Gad has resulted in a piece that feels both intimate and powerful, allowing listeners to appreciate the subtle breaths and inflections that add so much to the song's emotional impact.

The metamorphosis of AJ Angelina Jordan's evolution from a child prodigy to a full-grown artist is a testament to her enduring talent and the natural progression of life. It's not uncommon for fans to feel nostalgic about artists they've followed since childhood, but growth and change are intrinsic to the human experience. As Angelina transitions into adulthood, her style and presentation may change, but what remains constant is her unique voice that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Her journey reflects the transformation every artist undergoes, adapting and maturing both personally and professionally. This metamorphosis often brings a deeper, more resonant voice and a presence that resonates with both the innocence of youth and the wisdom of experience. Angelina's ability to maintain her signature sound while enhancing it with the strength of adulthood is what makes her a true phenomenon in the music industry. PS. If anyone questions her abilities as an adult, all one has to do is experience her performance in Dec. of 2023 at the Nobel Peace Prize on Oslo, Norway when she performed the most exquisite performance in my lifetime of Unchained Melody with the KORK Orchestra, no one on earth could have performed it better.

I would love to hear a compare to her and Cyndi Lauper. This whole album reminds me of Sisters of Avalon. Also, thanks for talking about form as a classically-trained singer would look at it. You talk about a lot of stuff other vocal coaches don’t that are really important to how a voice will hold up over the years.

Your First reaction might give you a 'foundation' to work from. My second reaction to Angelina was age 6 in the small studio behind her Elementary School singing 'I Who Have Nothing' ! THIS shocked me & I went back to re-review my first Angelina performance, 'Gloomy Sunday' on Norway's Got Talent (the 6 minute with English subtitles). THIS gave me an answer to why the Judges were in shock. AND made me a fan for life. A 'foundation' that was solid. If you stick with middle of the journey exposure you still don't 'get' where she started (1.5 with Whitney on the radio) ! Ouch ! take care, rh

Ren rabbit hole educational moment - I had to go look up Bardcore because I've heard that term used for Ren MANY times. Turns out, he's not Bardcore. Definition: Bardcore is a microgenre that takes modern pop and rock songs and reimagines them as if they were written in the Middle Ages. Instruments: Bardcore often features traditional instruments like the lute, mandolin, and recorder. It also often includes choral arrangements and harmonies So yeah, not really Bardcore according to the definitions I've found. Though some of his remakes... shrug. But, I do believe he is a Bard. Bard: A bard is traditionally defined as "a poet, especially one who writes impassioned, lyrical, or epic verse." Whatever we want to call him, he is very definitely a musical poetic genius. He is a storyteller, he is impassioned and epic and a poet, and he has Jamaican flare and Spanish guitar vibes - he is his own genre. I think Bardcore fits but we need to broaden the 'definition'. Ren IS music :-)
