I had the same issues. Owned an M2C, low mileage and I cherished it dearly. But, because it was perfect, I never used it how it was intended to be used. Then I started to get into track days and I couldn't bring myself to buy the same car again. I now own a full track spec E92 M3 which absolutely blows my M2C out the park but sadly unable to daily as it would break my bank and wallet. Now I own a manual M140i which I will daily to get my fix of driving a quick car everyday.

That’s the perfect 1-2! There’s something about making a profitable car into a track car that doesn’t sit right with me 😆 Manual 140i for a daily is a win!

Currently own a M4 with 93k miles and have had a m135i also and agree with your comments. I also kinda think sometimes it would have been better to have bought a lower mileage and spent more, but now looking at the things that break, not sure it’s necessarily the best way to go. All in all, like you summarised I’m happy with my purchase 👍

The 8 speed ZF gearbox in a m140i is an absolute gem...the up shifts and downshifts either by the paddles behind the wheel or using the gear lever is amazing. The precision on that gearbox is fantastic!

Live in NYC, and in the market for a used f82 m4. Prices are going up for low mileage ones, almost close to 2021 g82 levels. I think I may reconsider higher mileage m4s after all and spend some time working on them. Phenomenal car from my recent test drives. Great review Tim.

Thanks for watching mate, nothing wrong with a high mileage car! Servicing is key!

Absolutely agree on the 140i. I did the opposite and did suspension and diff mods over power and it still wasnt enough. A few non BMW hot hatches later and im in a manual M2 comp, with an equal length mid pipe to deal with the shit sound. Its an absolute peach of a car

I’ve got a non comp f82 m4. Gradually got to a m4 after various 6 cylinder 3.0 engines in e63 6 series, 640i, 330i, 650i etc. I’m on 54k and I don’t think I’ll ever sell it. Yes it’s only a 4 series, but M cars just feel that they’re put together better. Solid. 0-60 in 4 seconds ish….. I like the noise, I’ve got the good extras, HUD, HK sound, leather dash etc. immaculate paint too

I know it’s not a BMW (I think VAG group cars are similar in this regard) but i recently purchased a Cupra with 75k miles off a mate. I was looking at golf’s, S3s and similar cars with lower mileage for a lot more money and I’m so glad I didn’t. He kept it in such good condition with a crazy service history that it looks and feels like a car that’s only a few years old. All these horror stories of peoples cars breaking before 100k is most likely due to poor maintenance or they are the unlucky 1 in 10,000

Yes Tim. It’s only miles…That’s what they were designed and built for. To be driven. One lad had a bmw 6 series with 600,000 miles on the clock. Yes you read that correctly. Bmw engines are known for strength and endurance. Oil changes see to that.

Hi mate , i notice where you are and it’s where I live! Do you want to review my 435d ? Compare to the m car? Mines running 449 bhp - 870 nm GKR performance tuned ( best on these platforms) bilstein suspension , braided break lines etc - I’m getting 100-200 9 secs flat 1/4 in 11.5

In the market for a new car, £25,000 budget. I’ve been looking at M140i Shadow Edition with around 30k miles on the clock. Would you recommend one, or would you suggest going for a higher mileage car and getting something a bit more special?
@TimWilliamsHDАй бұрын
All depends on your needs, if it will be used for the occassional track day then honestly..M140i with suspension mods would be a good way to create a good little car...if it's less of a daily and more weekend with trackdays then definitely a M!
@TMil8695Ай бұрын
@@TimWilliamsHD to be honest, probably won’t ever be tracked at all. A comfortable daily with some performance to have fun on a a weekend is all I’m after.

Maybe your rwd M140i was floaty but i dont have that feeling at all in my M140i xdrive when i am in sport+ or DSC off, only time i do feel is in comfort but maybe the adaptive suspension makes such a difference?

Suspension is key, 99.99% of RWD M140i owners know about the floaty feeling when pushing on...

This is problem with the world today. 100.000 miles for a car isn’t a lot. It’s what car companys tell you so you get a new ones. It’s also the reason there using more plastic parts so they brake. If you take care of your car it will easily double that mileage.
@TimWilliamsHDАй бұрын
Very true!
@Tom_shaz_the_bad29 күн бұрын
Not a car with that kind of power though too much stain on the engine if your driving it how it’s made to drive. Unless you’re driving like a grandad everywhere and change oil on time then maybe double. But that’s not why people buy performance cars they buy them for fun get past 150 on the clock and that ain’t terrible
@RJAH35529 күн бұрын
@@Tom_shaz_the_bad if your trying the say engines are made to be red lined all the time. You have no idea what your talking about. They wouldn’t last 10.000 miles never mind a 100.000
