Fresh, direct and expressive. A distinctive note in the pastel world.

Brilliant. Thanks for the generous share. Love the range of colour, such as the variation in the sunlit roof. These subtle touches make it, and speak of your experience.

Tony this was absolutely great to see you do this beautiful painting that just leapt out of the paper. The light and shadows you produced was outstanding. I have been seeing your work on FB or Instagram but this is the first I have seen you paint. What a treat. I am going to work my way through your Utube videos and hope I can learn something. Many thanks.

Tony how do decide on subject matter....I find it hard to be inspired by the irish landscape as beautiful as it is ... Miss the warm colors of kansas where I'm from. Do you travel alot or just uses references ??
@tonyallain2723 жыл бұрын
Shelly, our subject matter is all around us. Even on a day with heavy rain. Colour, reflections and light is what I’m all about. Early morning or late afternoon is a good time for contrast in values, shadows and shimmering light. I’ve even painted a trash can, a gas cylinder bottle! If the light and shadows are visible there could be a painting just waiting to be born!

Perfect ! By the years, did you make a sélection of colors, as to say, do you work always with the same colors ? 30, 40, 50 colors ? More ? Thank you very much.
@tonyallain2722 жыл бұрын
Thanks, probably no more than 30 colours!

Great balance of composition. Just curious... what ground are you using? (I use homemade board and gesso/marble dust)
@tonyallain2724 жыл бұрын
Michael Kirkby, thank you for your interest and comment. I use various supports ranging from UART gritted paper mounted on board. Another paper I use is made by Pastel Premier. For my big pieces I use gessoed MDF with acrylic pastel ground made by Golden.

Tonny, your works are very impressive. The choice of colors and techniques are really inspiring. Can you tell me which pastel chalk you specifically used to make "Tin Miners Chttage"? My attempts with "sennelier pastel" leave the color rough on the paper.
@tonyallain2722 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Srecko. I use Terry Ludwig and Unison pastels

It is so pathetically sad to see these contemporary ' artists ' reproducing photographs... Rembrandt , one of the greatest draughtsman from life, is rolling in his grave with disgust!
