@arosequartz i think what u said makes the most sense....ollivander is who letterally eveyone got a wand from for how many years????? he says "the wand chooses" so it dont reallly matter how some1 got disarmed...if they had their wand one seccond and didnt the nest.....they lost...so when voldy was using it , he coudnt silence people and couldnt hit harry with his spells right after harry dropped from hagrid....harrry and the elder wand were on the same page, just like we saw harry repair his wand, have we ever seen anyone fix a broken wand with a wand...nope cept harry, and its bcuz the elder wand made it possible whether harryss technically ?'its master" the wand still would have worked, harry believing or just the wand choosing harry reguardless of who "disarmed who" or who had or if bweing "the master" ....sorry for the rant lol loveHP

The wand, it is said, can never allow its master to lose a duel, but in every case that we've had detail of it passing from one person to another, it never passes in a duel (leave aside for this the Voldemort / HP duel, where Volde never had mastery of the wand). All known cases where the wand changes masters, it does so not in a duel, but by some other non-duel means to change hands. That's the key.

Dumbledore was tricked by Harry's candy, so by Harry. So he was defeated by Harry. Then Vernon Dursley locked Harry up in the house and put bars on his window, defeating Harry. Therefore, Vernon also became master of the elder wand.

Counter-theory: when Tina disarmed Grindelwald by using Accio on his wand, his arms were already locked by Newt's wand-whip or whatever that thing was, so even if Tina was the one who actually disarmed him, he had already been bested in combat by Newt just a few moments earlier, thus making HIM the master of the Elder Wand, not her! I mean, if Harry truly did become the master by physically fighting Draco, why would this be a stretch?

Here's my thought- maybe grindy was being literal and honest when he said he was never the master of the elder wand. Presumably they found the wand together in their Hallows-hunting days- maybe Dumbledore was able to manipulate the situation in some way (intentionally or unintentionally) that established the wand firmly in his... mastery? He could've been manipulating Grindelwald, or at least keeping a check on his power, by letting him use the wand but not disclosing that Dumbledore was actually the rightful owner. A little bit of that youthful greed and ambition that would want him to be the true master of one of the most powerful magical artifacts ever. Perhaps in the Godrick's hollow duel Grindy cast a spell at Dumby that deflected away from the wand's true maste (it seems like the wand can't be used against its master until the ownership changes, though maybe i'm wrong about that) and hit Ariana instead. Because Dumbledore being the true master would've been part of his scheme for ages now, he could absolutely take the point of view that Ariana's death was a result of his deception, and blame himself for her taking the spell that was meant for him. It would mean the elder wand was always his until Draco disarms him, clearing up a lot of confusion and trouble, and explains how he won the "unwinnable" duel against Grindelwald - He's Dumbledore, master schemer and manipulator. He had tipped the odds in his favor before the duel even began.

My theory with the Elderwand, like all the hallows, is it isn't exactly what the legends say it is. The Elderwand has no true master but the one who can defeat death ("the wand chooses the wizard Mr. Potter") the only reason Dumbledore is ever the "Master" of the Elderwand is because he (technically) has possession of all the deathly hallows at one point in time as does Harry (technically) by the end of the series. Death is the Master of the Elderwand and only by defeating Death (collecting all the hallows) can you be the master of the Elderwand. The Elderwand is powerful and can give you a boost even if you aren't it's true master, the constant changing of hands actually means nothing, if you haven't defeated Death you aren't the master of the wand you're just it's current holder.

The original owner was Antioch Peverell, who had no children, The Gaunts were not Peverells as they had no idea what the stone was. Harry is the last descendant of Ignotus Peverell. Making Harry a Peverell which means the Elder Wand is Harry’s by blood and magic. Harry was born the master of all three Hallows.

Naomi Seldenrust Actually no. The story specifically states that he brings back the woman that he was supposed to marry that died before they could, and kills himself to join her. Also from what we are told of the Gaunts they are blood purists of the worst sort and unabashed braggarts. They always flaunted and revelled in their bring the descendants of Salazar Slytherin. There is no way that they would of kept their mouths shut about being Peverells and having a Deathly Hallow. Even Dumbledore says with a fair amount of certainty that neither the Gaunts nor Riddle knew what the stone was for it would not have been lost and Riddle would never have used it as a horcrux.

This could just be that the members don't know and just take their wand, what they got, but the wand elements have chosen the person in the past so it still works well.

"The wand chooses the wizard" is not just important when it's initially being purchased. Wands don't honour financial transactions, they follow opportunities to tie themselves to individuals whose goals and personalities are most similar to theirs. It's the same reason they won't work properly for other people. They have as much agency as a stick that can't move by itself can possibly have, which still isn't a lot. There are no rules about when a wand changes hands any more than people have rules about when they fall in love. If a wand feels a connection, it feels a connection, and they make mistakes just like people do. The elder wand seeks out power, and therefore the most powerful person to wield it. And when Draco disarmed Dumbledore, the wand got a crush on Draco. It probably quickly realized that Draco wasn't particularly powerful, but Dumbledore was dead and Draco was fine... for the moment. When Harry disarmed Draco, the wand realized that this was somebody worthy of it and switched again. If it had truly loved Draco it wouldn't have mattered if or how Harry tried to take it, but let's face it... the elder wand is an opportunist and a serial romantic. That's part of the reason it has changed hands so much. But also, the wand can't help you if you're not using it at the time. A lot of owners were killed in their sleep, or when they were using other wands instead.

He might be. Everyone seems to forget that the original owner of the elder wand was murdered by a knife, at least in the story it seems, before it was taken. Harry physically wrestled Draco's wand from his hand and it switched loyalties. It might be entirely possible that Tina is nothing more than a red herring as the Elder wand already transferred loyalty to Newt for defeating Grindlewald by restraining him before Tina used the spell to summon the wand. If a wand's loyalty can be transferred by physical means and/or by the death of the owner in a non-magical way then it makes perfect sense for Newt to be the true master. Not only that but him being the true master would ensure Newt remains relevant to the plot as Grindlewald attempts to regain control of the wand.

My theory is that it's a lock and key situation: the power given to the third brother is separate from the physical wand. I mean, the brother will have had to die at some point and leave his wand to someone or maybe it gets buried with him... And those that dig it up (since technically you can't arm the dead, they can't use weapons!!) aren't disarming them, so the power itself can in fact go to someone else. To unlock the full extent of the special magic given to the third brother, he needed a wand as powerful as that *but any wand will do*. The elder wand is super powerful but it is a wand. The power behind it may very well have been a curse that gets passed about by dueling.

This is more along the lines of what I thought. Each wand has a different amount of loyalty, some wands will switch owners easily while others it takes a great deal for them to switch ownership. With J just assuming that the wands switch ownership because someone disarms you is silly. The only time we've seen it happen was with Harry and Malfoy and that was a whole deal and Malfoy's life was on the line and stuff. It was a complicated situation. So I think most wands need a good reason to switch hands and if the Elder Wand is just following the other wand then it would also need a good reason to switch hands. That being said... Tina did arrest Grindlewald. But someone else pointed out that it wasn't even his wand, it was a borrowed wand.

You might be forgetting the 1st thing we learn about wand lore. "the wand chooses the wizard". Dumbledore also talks about the a wand's desire for mutual experience and growth. Dumbledore also says that his destiny was to tame the elder wand. And thus maybe it rejected voldemort because it had been tamed.

Also, who's to say the wand wouldn't just "skip" someone it didn't agree with? For example, what if the wand chose not to be mastered by Grindelwald, and then instead went on without having a master until Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald. It would mean Grindelwald would be telling the truth about never having it, and also that Dumbledore would have gotten it after his duel with Grindelwald.

Or new theory: the elder's master is always supposed to die/be killed by possessing it, like his first owner.

I agree with this. I think that "a wand choses it wizard" means a wand has an intended purpose bound to it like: this wand wants to be used by a great healer, this wand wants to used for complex carm work, this wand wants a simple domestic homelife. Perhaps the true intent behind the elder wand is it bonds to wizards in need of great combat defense. Grindlewald wanted it to use for offense but it perhaps was never good for that. Dumbledore, Snape, Draco, and Harry all needed its defensive capabilities at one point and just keep moving to where it was most in need.

Let's face it: This whole wand loyalty thing makes no sense. SCB did videos on: Wizarding Money Makes No Sense Quidditch Makes No Sense (I seem to remember there was at least one other) Makes No Sense It's time to make a "Wand Loyalty* Makes No Sense". *At least in terms of how wands change loyalty to whoever disarms the previous master. This would imply that every time you lose a duel, you'll need to buy a new wand. "The wand chooses the wizard," but does the wand also choose who the wizard loses a duel to? Are wizards nothing more than riding animals for wands? Because wands have no legs? And if you win a duel, you're now the master of an additional wand. And if you go on using a wand you lost a duel with, it won't work as well for you, and you're even more likely to lose any duel you have in the future. And any and every wand that a wizard is master of changes allegiance when he loses a duel, so the winner becomes master of every wand the loser owns! If you have 100 people in a single-elimination dueling tournament, does the winner wind up as the master of all 100 wands? IT MAKES NO SENSE!

I’ve been thinking recently that Grindewald being a seer really puts his conversation with Voldemort in a different perspective. Him saying that Voldemort will never be the master of the Elder Wand and that he cannot win seems much more significant when you realize he can see the future. What I would like to see happen here is for Grindewald to encounter Tom Riddle (unbeknownst to Riddle) near the end of the series, which presumably concludes in 1945, the year Riddle graduates from Hogwarts. Grindewald would then have a vision of what he would become and the destruction he would cause with the Elder Wand, and also see that the only way to prevent that would be if Dumbledore has it. That would make the final battle between the two even deeper, as Dumbledore is afraid to try and win for fear of what Grindewald might reveal regarding the identity of Ariana’s killer, and Grindewald would be afraid to win because of what Voldemort would go on to do without Dumbledore to stop him. Then conclusion of the fight also concludes these arcs, as Dumbledore overcomes his fear and attacks for the win, and Grindewald decides ultimately that the “greater good” is to ensure the eventual defeat of Voldemort and gives up his own fight, allowing himself to be defeated and for the ownership of the Elder Wand to pass.

My personal understanding/head canon of wand lore, specifically the flexibility of a wand, denotes the wand willingness to change owner/master. This means a flexible wand is more willing to change master than a rigid wand. Going along with this thought i just always assumed that the Elder Wand was an extremely flexible wand (maybe even the most flexible, purposefully made that way by Death if you believe the story of the three brothers) which is why it so easily changes masters, and also why it changed mastery even when it was non magically taken, or even when a completely different wand was taken from its master (as was the case with Harry and Malfoy). Even the "smallest" of victories over the Elder Wands master would lead it to change master. Not every wand behaves this way as it is all based on the flexibility of the wand. Rons first wand, the one he got from his brother, for example would be a wand the is extremely rigid which is why Ron had difficulty performing with it even before he broke it. This even makes sense when looking at the fact that the wand choses the wizard. So the most powerful wand would likely want the most powerful wizard as its master, and by overpowering the master of the elder wand in any way, be that physically or magically, one would prove (to the wand) that they are more powerful leading it to change masters. Because of this I would say Tina did become the master after using accio. Potentially, if the wand is even more picky, Newt might actually be the master for overpowering Grindelwald with his beasts. Either way, from then on every "small" victory over the current master would lead the wand to changing mastery.

theory: voldemort won ownership of the wand when his horcrux messed up dumbledores hand, and was the leading cause of his death. harry won ownership from voldemort in the battle of the 7 potters when harrys wand broke voldemorts borrowed wand. harry is the master of the elder wand. In the forward of the *Updated* (re-released after the movie) "FANTASTIC BEASTS & WHERE TO FIND THEM" book, Newt says (and I quote): "It is true that I was the first person ever to capture Gellert Grindelwald..." (it's the first sentence of the 8th paragraph in the 'Forward by the Author' section). I think this (much like Harry physically wrestling the wand from Draco at the Manor) is not to be dismissed out of turn -- a "Capture" is a kind of defeat, and it was by Magical Means (Swooping Evil is a Magical Creature with whom Newt had developed a rapport with). I don't know how this may play out in future, but when I first heard these EXACT words mentioned in the Audio-Book, I actually paused it to think for a moment what this might mean. Theorizing is better left to professionals like yourselves, however. ;-)

Not necessarily. When done right, a magic system where not everything is fully explained, where magic isn't limited with strict rules, can be great for the story it's in. It makes the magic seem more fantastical, mysterious, and intriguing. This is known as a soft magic system. Other examples of soft magic systems in fantasy are the Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and even Star Wars. Harry Potter is by and large a soft magic system, there aren't really many rules on how magic works, so the fact that there aren't any on wand allegiances doesn't seem out of place for me at least.

For me personally, I closed this thought from the phrase : "The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter." So basically, my theory is that, the elder wand did not choose Tina when she got the other wand from Grindelwald, maybe because the wand did not accept Tina, because she used a summoning charm. As for why he lost, I personally think that Dumbledore maybe disarmed or stunned Grindelwald, before actually defeating him completely. So, in the middle of the fight the wand might've changed allegiance, giving Dumbledore the power of the elder wand. I think it because the elder wand seems very sensitive and very picky on who it gives its allegiance to. BTW, This is NOT canon, and a complete theory and personal opinion of mine. I also considered that maybe Grindelwald wasn't giving his best, for a second. But, then I realised : This is FREAKING GRINDELWALD we are talking about! He would, most probably, never go easy on anyone for his power!

I actually think because Grindelwald was already unable to use it and i don't know if it actually was on the ground on in his hand. If it was on the ground, i think it wouldn't count because he doesn't have it. It would ve like picking a wand up with np resistance therfore not conquering. I always thought that the reason Tina didn't have mastery of the Elder Wand because Grindleakld did not have mastery of the wand she took. It belonged to Percival Graves and Grindlewald was just using it to keep his disguise.
