When you said Neville got his new wand before his 6th year and after he lost his fathers' old one while fighting in the ministry, I noticed this has a deeper meaning: It symbolises him stepping out of his parents' shadows. Nevilles' story is very much tied to the the story of his parents. He always wanted to do something that would have made his parents proud. He always heard those heroic stories about them fighting Voldemort himself not only once, but three times and sacrificed their own sanity in the end. These stories stand in a great contrast to what Neville thought about himself. He was no hero, but a clumsy who wasn't good at anything except Herbology. But he always wanted to be a hero like his parents were. His fathers wand was probably the most important thing he had got from his parents. It always reminded him of the heroic actions his parents had done. Then in year 5, just after we readers were introduced to Nevilles' parents' story, there was a mass break out from Askaban. Among the escapees is Bellatrix Lestrange, the woman who had tortured his parents. Neville is eager to fight her and not only to take revenge for heis parents, but showing to everyone (including himself) that he is a hero like his parents were. And so he trains to fight in the DA. Now that Bellatrix is free, he cannot really rest. When he joins the other core members of the DA to fight in the ministry he knows very well that he will be fighting against Bellatrix, but he is prepared. During the fight all DA-members except Harry are being captured. If I remember it correctly, Bellatrix is the one capturing Neville. When the fighting continues, Bellatrix and Neville duel each other. During this fight Bellatrix tortures him with the cruciatus-curse. I think it was also during this fight the old wand broke. So he became a hero like his parents were and like he always wanted to be. His fathers' old had been a reminder of his parents heroic actions, his new wand is a reminder of his own ones. Now he has proven he is truly his parents son, and will continue their legacy. He stepped out of their shadows and became a hero on his own.

I agree, but i also always thought that some of it had to do with the way his grandmother treated him after the fight at the ministry. He even references how proud she is that he was taking after his parents. Up until that point she raised him and cared for him but didn't seem very supportive(proud). I think that after the fight at the MOM building she showed an approval that may have bolstered his self esteem a bit.

don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she didn't live him or care for him. however it felt like she was holding him to a very high standard and once he met that standard he gained her approval. that approval could have been a good confidence boost to start his path to even more greatness.

Charlie does have a particularly demanding job, maybe he needed something that specializes in neutralizing dragons? Kind of like your basic HB pencil can do pretty good art but once you really come into your own as an artist you usually switch to something else? Just a thought. My answer is: People are changing. There are wands who are not flexible as much for changings in wizards personality as other wands are. If i recall kcorrectly we know this fact for sure. Maybe he had a combination which is less good for this. (also if this is not mentioned anywhere in canon, didnt look up). Also it could simply be that his new personality is not fitting his old wand. In such a strong way that the natural loyalty of the specific wand is a smaller point compared to his unfitting personality.

davincent98: Actually, Phoenix feather is not a very common core, but it is not only Harry and Voldemort who have it. We actually see Harry try a couple other wands with a phoenix feather core before he finds the right one.

@6:28 There are an undefined number of potential wand cores. Olivander simply stated that he prefers to work with dragon heart string, unicorn tail hair, and phoenix feather. Many more core types exist, including Veela hair, but Olivander doesn't work with them. It is premature to assume that any character MUST have one of these three wands cores, as wands made in other countries may use other cores and wands are regularly passed down as family heirlooms for better or for worse.

Brandyn Beverly I mean bellatrix actually destroyed his entire life by making his parents insane I would want to avenge them as well. Snape was an overall terrible person and used to be Neville’s biggest fear of anything he should want revenge in snape not want to avenge him. I would think he is avenging Harry more then snape who in my opinion is the worst character in the series

This is prior to seeing the video, I'm wondering if they're going to compare him to like Samurai tropes, or actual historical samurai, will add an edit at the end. Edit: finished the video and it kinda did both, tgey did go oast more than just surface level which i really appreciate, but not sure if I'm totally convinced, i mean samurai where more hufflepuff tha griffyndor. Most cause even in the bushido code, loyalty to your master was essential above all, no matter what they told you to do, even if it was something horrific. But i do see some parallels i thoroughly enjoyed the video!

Neville just has an awesome story. He's relatable because courage doesn't come easy to him the way it does for Harry. He doesn't go looking for trouble, but won't back down if it comes to it. He goes from someone we pity to someone truly awesome. He delivers a momentous FU to the Dark Lord. I can just imagine how many other characters who've known him since the beginning would have been bolstered by that.
