She was special. I saw her perform in Boston 2008. She was 68 years old and slayed that performance. Age didn't stand in her way, that's for sure. One of the best concerts I ever attended.

Am going to watch this piece another day. I am gutted over her loss. Tina Turner’s vibrant talent is unparalleled. And, as a survivor of extreme DV, she was an inspiration to all of us who escaped violence. Rest in Peace, Tina Turner 💔

I saw Tina open for Lionel Richie at the Forum in LA when she made her return, and there was no doubt she blew him off the stage, the crowd called for Tina in between Lionel's songs, it was a little embarrassing for him, but she was just so freaking commanding on stage, you could not take your eyes off of her, and she and her band were so sincere, and having a blast doing it. Always saw her as an inspirational celebrity, as well as monumentally talented. She will be missed, and thank you for the tribute. Well done, as usual. You spoil us.

I am 69 - as these musical influences pass on - we mourn the passing of a musical era. Rick is so right on - music is not the same now and while that is so sad, its also normal - I am sure my grandparents may have felt the same way about the passing of the big band artists from the 20s and 30s. I am so incredibly grateful for living though this and for all the incredible music that has enriched my life.

I'm in absolute shock. Just...............gutted. I grew up loving her music. May she forever rest in peace. I've LOVED her ever since first hearing "What's Love Got To Do With It" in a dark blue 1977 Chevrolet Concours 4-door sedan (just think of a "fancy", blinged-out '77 Nova, & you get the idea) in the summer of 1984.

Tina was the voice of the NRL, Australia Rugby League in the early 90's she was part of an advertising campaign using Simply the best. But she didn't just let them use the song, she travelled to Oz to see the games in person and made a video with the players as the promotional song. She was so loved by us as she really loved the game and it showed. Her songs were always a part of growing up.

As an 80s kid, I clearly knew who Tina was and was in awe of her as an artist and as a woman, having dealt with all that she did. Schitt's Creek (TV show) featured "The Best" in a few episodes and I hope it introduced her songs to new generations and garnered more appreciate for a truly one of a kind talent. This one stings really hard. R.I.P., Tina and thank you. Thank you too, Rick, for a lovely tribute.

I’m 62, and I remember as a young white boy living in midwestern suburbia, seeing Tina Turner on the various variety shows that existed back then. I’d hear her screaming style (always with perfect pitch) and see her sweating and strutting and spinning and ROCKING, and I wasn’t sure what to think. But I knew it was cool, and l never moved until her act was over. She was, and always will be, an original.

She died on my 45th birthday, but I felt so much older than that when another one of the Greats from my childhood passed. One of those that you didn't neccessarily listen to actively but they still were THERE and contributed to my growing up more than I ever realised. Prince, Bowie, and a lot of others. The Best is my favourite even though her and Ike's version of Proud Mary for me as a CCR fan really is great too.

Oh my goodness, this post is such a lovely tribute to our Tina. And all the comments I’ve been reading are so true. It’s so hard knowing these incredible artists from our generation who gave us so much joy and defined how we feel about life and love, will leave this world, but leave it and us richer. I feel so lucky to have been around our generation. I love Tina so much and feel so heartbroken she has left us, but relieved she is no longer in pain. I agree that we should absolutely be listening and downloading her incredible music and watching her fabulous performances and elevate her magnificence to everyone and those who never saw how sensational she was on stage! No one will ever touch her and her fun, energy and interaction with her dancers and band on stage. Love you Tina 🧡🌻🙏🏽

It's that time of life for our generation Rick. I'm older today than I've ever been in my life. I've spent the last few years of my life reconciling that it's nearing time for me to go home and I'm okay with that. Average longevity is now around "76.4 years". Tina seemed to make the most of her life and circumstances. She will be missed. RIP

One thing about living through any part of the 1960s-2000s is that we all shared so many moments in popular culture through television, film and radio. They’re memories ingrained in our minds, hearts and souls. We’re all so familiar with these artists and there were SO many of them over those decades. We are able to mourn and celebrate together, but there are going to be more and more of our favourite stars dying simply due to the avalanche of shows, films and music we experienced over these years.

Tina Turner was 31 years old when I was born in 1970, I grew up listening to this wonderful lady with this amazing voice. She was indeed the Queen of Rock n Roll, this one hits like an atom bomb. I thought Gordon Lightfoot passing away was tough, this one truly hurts. What can you say. Private dancer, what's love got to do with it, and the iconic simply the best were anthems for rock and roll in the 80s, as well as anthems for those of us who were born into Generation x. These tears I'm crying right now are true pain, Miss Tina you will be truly missed you are now singing with the angels, and putting on a stupendous show for Jesus and the heavenly host another beautiful angel taken from us too soon RIP we will see you soon in heavens golden garden😢♥️🌹🌹🌹🌹

I read today in an essay recapitulating her life that she had only two weeks to record this album ("Private Dancer"), that's all the time her new record label (EMI, I think) was willing to invest as a budget for this. But tried and tested as she had been, she stepped up to an almost impossible task to accomplish. It adds impressively to her unbelievable accomplishments, the major ones of which happened away from the limelight. Rest in peace, Queen of Rock n Roll and living testament to the human condition and how to live a life riddled with much adversity almost from the start with grace, style, integrity! We'll miss her...

Look, I'm 72 years old, Given life expectancy for men, I fully understand that at best I have 10-to15 years of life left. So what? TT was 83 years old and had a tumultuous life but for the most part I think she probably lived very well for most of it. Life and death go hand in hand and it's something we somehow refuse to accept. I just can't be devestated when someone lives into their 80's and then dies. I felt that way about my own parents and if I make the estimated 10-15 years, I hope that no one feels that way about me. 80 ish is the end of the line for most of us. Realize it, absorb it, and most certainly, EXPECT it. It doesn't matter how bright your star shined, no one gets out alive

I don’t know if she wrote these or maybe had some outsourced writer’s’ help. It doesn’t really matter because millions of people went home singing the lyrics and humming the melodies after the gig. That’s what’s most important. To reach inside the listener’s soul and make a lasting impression with real-life lyrical content. Tina was really real. People know when something is genuine.

Her version of “I can’t Stand the Rain” shook me to my core. I had heard the greats before her perform the song, but none could touch her. Perhaps the timing of the great synths of that era made the difference her performance was second to none. I had my first great stereo in the 80’s. I know that made a difference in the record but nothing touched her live performances. The Private Dancer record was simply amazing.

@@ExcitedHawksFanWhat a F cynical bastard you need to be in order to think he’s doing it for a profit. You’re clearly not following his channel if that’s what you’re saying. I won’t even get into the technical explanation about how many views you need in order to get a decent amount of money on YT, but if you would’ve watched some of Ricks content you’d know that his income comes from his courses and books on his store. Now F off.

Tina Turner was a performer I have never heard anyone say they disliked. She was universally loved and admired for her ability to allow people to feel every word and every movement of her performance. She was electrifying. Thankfully we still have her music.

Her voice had the range of an opera singer, the soul of a gospel singer, the grit of a country singer and the phrasing of an R&B singer, and the raw power of a rock singer. She worked with everyone from the Who to Bryan Adams. No one like her. Before or ever.

exactly, she was so versatile, here in canada (and i'M sure it was the same everywhere else, you could hear her in every genre of radio station, rock, pop, MOR, she had what it takes to cover all this range......

Very well put. The contrast of raw power and vulnerability in her voice as the songs call for it is to me unparalleled. Bono is for me the only apt comparison I can think of at the moment.

Rick,, we certainly recognized, when this album came out in the 80s, what a monstrous return this was, not just for Tina, but for the world of music and entertainment. And it was monumental. She was rockin' in every sense of the word at that time of her life. Enormous star. And her duet with Bryan Adams..."It's Only Love."...was taken as utterly epic when it hit. She took the 80's styles and brought them to life. It was just good stuff, and in the MTV era, she could just kill it. I recall so clearly saying how impressive she was returning at that time and tearing it up. She was a dominant, singular force. And you play "Simply the Best." That's the sound of Triumph.

She came back at just the right time in music with the right look, the perfect performance style and a well seasoned voice that she knew how to use. She always looked like she was completely immersed in performance. No one else was like this, except maybe Janis Joplin.

+1 for It’s Only Love. Classic song that deserves more love. Also, Tina sang some crazy vocals on Zappa’s song Montana. Check it out, she did an amazing jazzy scat section that took her three days to rehearse and record.

Tina was fiercely devoted to her craft, which featured precise phrasings, nuanced shifts and adjustments in vocal acrobatics, and raw passion in every note. A true original, a groundbreaker who rebranded herself against the odds, and a live performer the likes of whom we will never see again.

You’re so right, Rick. “There are no songs like this anymore. Before the technological advances …” Even in the ‘80s it was still real music played and sung by real people, FOR real people. It is not like that anymore, and more’s the pity. RIP, Tina: survivor, star, and great inspiration to all who dream of a better life.

that's a silly complaint. People have said stuff like this and felt vindicated since the invention of soundwaves. It's no more intelligent to state than "kids these days just have no respect anymore" or "the economy is just going to crap". Such absolutes never can be true as they ignore a lot of nuance and subtle differences in the wide field of life. (or that economics are a cyclic phenomenon, not anything going ever just one way and never all sectors at one time in the same direction)

We're dying, each of us in turn. It's not a tragedy, it's just how it goes. We can and will miss those who go before us, and some will be missed more than others; but the highest honor we can give them is not to cry for their passing, but to appreciate that we got to share some time here with them. Thank you, Tina, for enriching my life. 🙏
