This video is almost 5 years old!!! You have come a long way Dan. One thing has stayed the same, your presentation of useful information is always excellent. Funny, I’ve watched so many of your videos, along with Shawn’s and Josh’s, that anymore I find myself looking for alternative methods to do things better or creative ways to solve a need. Dan, you definitely have made me better.

Here in Urals, these small dead twigs of spruce or fir are sometimes called "Pautinka" (a thread of spider web in Russian). And it is a lifesaver when you need a fire ASAP, in the middle of winter or after several days of heavy rain. One of two very good kindling of our forests, another is birch bark. Of cause one still needs some fire making skills, so I watch your videos and learn your techniques.

Just a tip on this subject, hope you like it, or you may already use it...I always bring a good amount, ( you can take a lot if you fold it up neatly), of Heavy Duty aluminum foil to put on the snow to creat a nice dry base for the fire...
