Weiss Walkers Oh, yes! Think about how your feet would feel if your toenails were so thick and long that you couldn’t walk normally. It would throw off your walk and, over time, cause pain in muscles and joints, even the spine. It can do the same in horses, dogs, cats, etc. It’s something simple but important. 😀

Believe it! If you've ever seen someone let their big toe(nail) grow way too long before trimming...you'll see it can completely twist the toe around! Horses aren't much different, especially when young and those bones are still growing and forming.

It is amazing that trimming her feet could actually straighten her legs and normalize her gait. In a human, such a deformity would necessitate a wedge osteotomy, in which a triangular chunk of leg bone is removed to make the lower leg more vertical. Much more traumatic. Such a joy to see Martha socializing with the other animals and doing her happy dance!

I’m so glad you got her! Dwarves can also have issues with their internal organs, such as their heart, so people that ate knowledgeable in their care are paramount for their survival and quality of life. I had a dwarf mini- donkey. Sadly he had a heart attack last spring. I had him for several years. She is the cutest and in great hands! My wish is that you have many more years of love and laughter!
