Beautiful hike but too intense for me. I'd have to work my way up to that. LOL Those steps were crazy! We went to the Blue Ridge Mountains up north in Virginia just to see the view one Fall day several years ago when my kids were little. I've always wanted to go back and hike some of it, but haven't made it back yet. Those views from the top are breathtaking! My fear of heights would not be a fan of those cliffs, though. LOL This looks like such a memorable day with your daughter.

Hi, Alicia! That hike looks like it was so much fun! I love the early spring: I saw daffodils, redbuds, and what I think was a white dogwood. So beautiful! The bridges were very whimsical, like something out of a fairy tale. I am not a fan of stairs, either. Wow, you got some good shots of those cliffs. Even though I am safely at home, my heart jumped a bit as you got closer--good video skills! So much fun! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Parnell! This was a great hike. Yes, you did see dogwood, there are a lot around here, it is the state flower! I liked those bridges, whimsical is a good word for them! The cliffs were a little scary but the views were great up there! Thanks for watching my friend, I hope your weekend is going well!

Finally get to see how it looks from up there. I was born in Roanoke, Virginia and have never been on Tinker Cliffs. Been on McAfee's Knob a couple of times. I have a picture of myself and some others on the rocks of McAfee Knob in 1957. Also have a picture someone took of the mountains from Roanoke ( called Big Lick then) and McAfee's Knob is right in the middle. Picture is dated 1873. One can see Tinker Cliffs from several parts of Roanoke City. Good luck.

Hi Bob, it was a nice hike! We have been in the Roanoke area since 2017 and I love it here. I was born and lived in Washington state before the move here. I wanted to do all three of the triple crown loop hikes with my daughter before she left for the Navy and was happy we got it done. McAfee's Knob was by far our favorite of the 3. It is a beautiful view from up there as you know since you have done it yourself. That is neat you have a picture from 1873 of the mountains! Thanks for watching!

@@AliciaLynnYT Thanks. Glad you are here and enjoyed those hikes. I was born at Roanoke Memorial and I continue to live here. My mother was born not far from Tinker Cliffs. I'm off to drive a school bus. I'll link that picture later. You may enjoy seeing McAfee knob in 1873. It looks just as it does now:)

@@boblackey1 Roanoke is a great place! You driving a school bus is much appreciated, by the way. We have had so many days where routes were cancelled in our county due to lack of drivers. There were 4 routes cancelled today. Thank you to you and every other school bus driver that shows up!

@@AliciaLynnYT Thank you. I drive for Roanoke County. Yes driver shortage everywhere. I've linked that 1873 picture here for you twice but it isn't here again. :( Must violate some rule. A James McAfee of Scotland gained control of the land the mountain is on in the 1730's and the Indian name was replaced by Mr. McAfee's name. But the ridge continues to have the Indian name, Catawba.

AliciaLynn Thanks. Just trying to experiment different things in each video. Something I want to do is have inner dad thoughts during a trip, but haven’t been able to pull it off yet. Want to give more of a human element to the vlogs. Similar to Everybody Hates Chris.

I don’t blame you splitting it up to 3 different hikes. 35 miles would be crazy. I think 10 miles my longest. Stairs are our enemy. I use the GoPro for our videos. Since it is wide angle, it generally has me in all the shots. Rumor that the next version will have a front camera also so you can frame yourself.
@AliciaLynnYT4 жыл бұрын
35 miles is definitely more than I want to do at one time! 10 is probably about tops for me too. I never know if I have myself in the shot or not when I use the GoPro 😄 I don't use it enough to be able to tell. That is cool the next version is going to have a front camera, I might have to upgrade!

Where are you from? I say Appalachian trail different.
@AliciaLynnYT2 жыл бұрын
We are from the western side of the country, so no, I'm not from around here Lol I realize here in the south, people pronounce it differently. “Ap-uh-latch-un” is what I mostly hear is the correct way. I grew up back west hearing it and pronouncing it the way I say it, which is why I still pronounce it that way. It probably makes people here cringe to hear me say it that way...the same way it makes me cringe to hear how they pronounce the names of many things in the west where I am from. Spokane being a big one for me. It is interesting to realize just how differently people from different parts of the country, pronounce things.
@trainchaserelliot2 жыл бұрын
It’s funny because I was saying McAfee Knob like you and was corrected by someone and I’m from Tennessee. I told my son I was just going to keep saying it that way.lol
