@ 5:20 you see "+- 6.144V" in the datasheet and comment that "... it can actually measure voltages higher than vcc..." But it's actually an RTFM moment... please notice the superscripted "(2)" in that line of the table, which references note 2, which says " *No more than VCC +0.3 V must be applied to the analog inputs of the device* . See Table 3 for more information". So when you applied 6V to the input @ 12:12, you were apparently just lucky that it didn't destroy the chip!

This is a great ADC, the libary I ended up using allowed you to set the programable gain and the sample rate so you got the whole shebang and I used it with a Nano ammeter I built with one of those 0.96" displays, great chip I would use it again and worth getting a shed full if ya can...cheers.

You never mentioned what the other modes are, now I have to find out. I can see a lot of uses for projects. Could also measure temp, weight, pressure, piezo load cells. 4 inputs is good for general uses. And an adafruit library, Nice.

Well the voltage is easy to calculate, its (Vref/2^16)*count. Dont know how many of these 16 bits will be below the noise floor on a demo board, could be fun to find out.

Since it is I2C, it does mean more remote monitoring of voltages where 1 phone cable carying the I2C would have less loss than the same distance time ( up to 4 ) wires to monitor batteries.

Absolutely. Another application that I hadn't thought of.

I've been looking for nice Dupont silicone-coated hookup wires, would you recommend those? I looked at our best pal Universal Solder but theirs looked like not great quality ones.
@pileofstuff2 жыл бұрын
I looked at the silicone ones briefly (after seeing Andreas Speiss using them), but got a bad case of "sticker shock". I haven't had any failures of the cheaper ones yet, so I'm not very motivated to move to the more expensive option.

@@spacewolfjr I don't have any silicone ones. The wires I do have came from the cheapest e-bay seller I could find at the time (as is my standard method)

this module has one but BIG error in design: when you disconnect the Vcc but the measured voltage is still there on the input pins, the module goes to trash. I lost 2 of them this way before I realised this. That should not have happened - you can imagine that this is very common case: Vcc gets disconnected while the measured voltage is still there. Probably 1 diode or so would solve it (however I am not sure how) ;-)

Pro Tip: a pencil *IS* a conductive rod. Pencil lead is made of graphite and conducts. It's not a great conductor but I wouldn't be pointing at high voltage circuits with it. Get out your DMM and check. My HB #2 pencil was reading about 10 ohms across the diameter at the tip. ;-)

I do wish KZbin contributors would make it clear that they are using a specific platform such as Arduino. It is unfair on the audience to have to sit through six minutes of wind-up just to find that you are using Arduino libraries, like almost everyone else.
