It appears that Tanks and other military vehicles are just Farm vehicles with armour and some with guns. Once you get that in your head, mending them becomes much the same. Bravo guys.

Grinding bearing off is not a good idea. I had 4 sets of front bearings fitted to a transit van a f g nightmare Ford designed as a unbolt hub with bearings as a unit and rebuild as a unit with 4 bolts. Not the way the garages round here work f d my wheel spindles up 3 times till I insisted on Ford genuine parts fitted by using the 4 bolts provided in the kit. 3 different garages 3 sets of cowboys 3 labour bills. F Witts. Buy the tool or copy one. Points lost. For riding a horse to work 😢.

You have replaced MR HEWES as he seems to have gone into hibernation for the winter. 😢 l REALLY DON'T LIKE grinding in mechanics tool choice. My opinion only.

We don’t own the puller that JCB sell to pull these bearings and at £6k each, most people don’t. For context that one tool costs more than the budget we keep our whole fleet of vehicles running on annually. The stub is also designed in a way that you can quite comfortably cut the bearing without touching the stub axel and being the bearing we wanted to replace anyway, destroying it made no difference. We agree, that you can’t cut bearings like this for a car or van as they are what’s called a cassette type, essentially two bearings in the same housing with the abs in between and trying to do so is bonkers.

@@tinkeringwithtanks ive been brought up to grind down bearing races too. So long as you dont damage the surface its ok. Afterall you dont get dealer tools out in the field either. Merry christmas to all.

Interested in stress testing your latest office chair design? Send it to the Norfolk Tank Museum workshop, where they will put it through its paces, pitting the strong arm of the mechanics vs over-torqued wheel bolts. While said mechanic is comfortably seated in the office chair... 🫣
