Tinman, I took a shot and bought my first Husq today. Picked up a 394 in case you couldn't guess. I'll be interested in finding out just what I got. As a novice saw user and green to Husqvarna's, I hope to really have good news as I get familiar with the saw. My first efforts to pull start it were not as simple as the seller made it look for him but I finally got it.

394 is one of the best ever made. Starting the big saws gets easier with practice. At least it went that way for me!!
@nighttrain022 Жыл бұрын
@@tinmanssaws I really do thank you for your encouraging reply. I already have a cousin to the 394 in a Stihl MS660 I bought about 4 years ago. That saw I never drop started, but used the method where you put your foot in the handle. When I bought this 394, the seller only had to pull about 3 times and could get it to fire. After about 12 pulls I still was having no luck.
@nighttrain022 Жыл бұрын
@@tinmanssaws I plan to go see how it is starting today with the same drop technique and also one similar to how Buckin lays the bar on the log and pulls up toward the shoulder with the left hand. The only other issue the seller told me about was the kill switch not working. If you know the usual fix for this, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Hi everybody! Tinman is spot on! Rakers heights are very important to match to the hardness of the wood. It the rakers are too high you are recutting the saw shaving. If it's too low it's more aggressive, it depends the on the power of the engine therefore, the operator has to balance the equation for optimum performance. Also pay attention to the chips forming and observe the freshly cut surface and inspect the scoring teeth marks on the face of the cut. Thanks Tinman! Wen you tune the saw in the wood could you put captions to the video so we can see and understand which way you are tuning the low and high jet. Thank you! Kind regards Endre

Love the sound of those big saws, but we sure don't see them much in our area do we ! I'm in Gladstone Mb. Late saturday night after seeing an ad on Facebook marketplace i went to a local landscaper and took in a rescue saw. A Stihl 261 CM with VERY low compression. I have the same saw at home so it would be a good parts saw, but thats no fun. I haven't opened it up yet, but i suspect a broken decompression knob perhaps. I think the plan will be to get ahold of your friend at Wolf Creek and order up some parts to build a little hot rod saw. Oh and the landscaper showed me his new saw, an MS291 saying it was the biggest saw stihl has (55.5cc) That is no doubt truly the biggest saw he could find at a local dealer. I know my dealer looked at me funny when i asked if they had any 462's or 661's in stock ! Haha. Loving the videos, and just a quick note here to say hi, and there are other saw enthusiasts in our neck of the woods.

These big saws aren't your weekend firewood junkie saws that's for sure.

Just scored myself a 395, with the intention of mounting it in a chainsaw slabber. Had to have a go with it on a couple of logs of course, and I’ve got to say I throughly agree with your assessment!
