some more rub time on the 268. The saw suddenly changes tune while in a cut, showing rings seating..

Cutting wood at your own pace, driving home in a solid truck, splitting wood with a good axe, hearing and feeling the wood split, stacking wood, and then sitting down in a warm Home that is heated with a wood stove is all a very special feeling.

Hey Tinman. That really is a good ear you have. To know that a quick change in sound and performance is a good thing shows the amount of experience you have with these saws. A lot of us would have thought something was wrong when that happened. Good job....thanks for sharing this
@mikeremski21022 жыл бұрын
Funny thing I've learned from watching videos from the chainsaw guys. Tinman, IronHorse, hotsaws, Kensie and a bunch of others. Once you have your ear "tuned" it's easy to figure out if the saw is running right. Kind of like the old analog vaccum tube amp playing vinyl vs digital amp playing CD arguments.

Good stuff again Tinman. Sitting out in the bush right now, just cut a cord with my bro and dad with our 2 268's hour and a half dropped bucked and loaded assume day to be in to bush. Nice to see the 268 settling in. Mahalo 🤙.

Hey Tinman, Thanks for the sharpening tips for wintertime. It's getting quite cold here in Scandinavia, so this will be really helpfull! Started up my first ported saw ever last night, ported a Stihl 026. Blended/enlarged the lower transfers and polished up the exhaust. Haven't changed the timing since i'm still waiting for the degree wheel in the mail. But aldready i can hear, and feel the saw got some more grunt, and a meaner sound. Would never have tried this without your, and Harvey the Ironhorses videos. Thanks a million! And thank you for sharing your knowlege

Tinmaaaaan, nicely done.. That my friend is the nicest hinge I've ever seen you cut. Traditional open face works well on wood that size. 268 sounds absolutely perfect man, very nice build. That happened with my first new saw. All of a sudden, it wouldn't idle and I always had to throttle it to keep it from stalling or ease back on the rpm slowly but it'd still stall if I set it down. Ran it like that for maybe 2 tanks and finally pulled the plug and cleaned it and adjusted the carb (as a much as they let you now a days) and it runs great. Gas hog though. I'm OK with that though. Better than too lean and getting hot all the time. I did the pull start compression test the other day and sure enough, it held itself up just on compression. Thanks for that knowledge Tinman.

Hey Tinman, I have been running a few Hultzforma bars and chains for about two seasons cutting firewood for two households. So far I have not had any problems with either. With regular maintenance the bares are holding up well for me. Definitely hard to beat for the money. I have a 36" on a 660 and a 28" on a McCulloch EB 3.7. Thank you for all you share with us common folk. Lol. Stay safe my friend. 🤘🪓🌳🇺🇸

Just did a build recently on a J’red that got blown up by the previous owner. Said owner also replaced the piston and cylinder with the 50 buck junk, and did a fuel line and called it a day. Well, lesson learned, anything non oem needs to be inspected thoroughly before use. First of all that piston and cylinder did not last. Second the fuel line that was put in was so short that it was stuck in the top left hand corner of the tank where it couldn’t pick up any fuel. Anyway, the saw runs really well now. It woke up recently so I’m hoping it’s breaking in well. Haven’t done a whole lot of cutting, about two tanks of tuning through it. That fuel line was such a pain as I was tuning as it would pick up air and throw it at the carb and it would go lean. Anyway, thanks for the vid. I’ll have to try some of that chain

That was really interesting to see it change and go rich. I missed it on the cheap 100$ yum-cha I ported and use for pruning and limbing, but thinking back I did need to adjust the bottom end mostly and a little on the top idle. It did have that nice thump afterwards and I thought "is it breaking in? hmm.. not sure." Now I am. Thanks! Have a good one.

From one non-logger to another, good looking stump, buddy. Seems to me you're getting better all the time. It was awesome to catch that 268 seat rings on camera. That is awesome info and example to anyone building saws. A fella who didn't know any better might take it as a bad sign that his tuning went all to hell out of nowhere. Rich is good... lean is bad ;)

So glad you were able to catch the ring set on video for everybody!👍 Even though there isn't a worse time for a saw to not want to idle then in the middle of felling a tree!😕 IDK about this chain just yet...It sure wants to dance around and not pull itself into the wood but sure bites when leaned on. Hopefully you can figure it what it takes to get it dialed in. What is the weight of the 268 versus a 372? I have a 372,but after several shoulder surgeries am looking for something even lighter that will still pull a 24-28" bar in bigger firewood. Thanks for this whole series!👍
@Indeewoods2 жыл бұрын
An 8 foot truck box level is enough work in itself isn’t it? You put the box sides on and get a full cord your body lets you know you don’t want to be doing that everyday lol but maybe some do. Looks like a pretty good wood truck to me.

Was thinking of getting some cheap bars for my firewood saw too but I have very bad luck everytime I try to save a couple of$.... so ended up getting a Sugihara because run them on all my other saws it hurts the wallet but you know what your getting and I don’t want to be frustrated and buy stuff twice!
