I would love a tinnman saw. I want an iron horse more, but it would be nice to have both. I got one ported 394XP with a 24" bar. In Norway thats considered big. Got a 36" for it as well in Norway thats considered huge. We mostly run 12-15". But im never going back. Stand and buck, and beeing able to cut through from one side is way better than having to cut from both sides to make it through. Love all of you, iron horse, billy ray, guilty of treeson and that small engine saloon guy. Inforamtive, kind hearted people.

I’m with you. I don’t care how much fuel my saw burns. I want it to be fast! I don’t have a lot of time to cut, and I’m not the best “saw man”, but when I do cut, I want my saw to be the fastest I can make it be.

If the wheel speed sensor comes and goes you remove it and sand down the rust where the sensor mounted. The rust throws off the spacing between the sensor and the timing ring.

yeah that was my thought. A few years ago I bought a 2000 GMC truck from the rust belt back East. the ABS light was on [oh well I thought] later I replaced the wheel bearing hubs on the front & sanded those sensor surfaces and yes painted lightly before installing the new sensors & VIOLA the light was out and years later [here] the systems still working & the lights out. :) I had a few other rusty spots. but thats the breaks when you get a rust belt rig. it is happy now and so am I

Rust push is much nicer then my description. I live in the rust belt. 3 of my last 4 trucks were consumed by rust. I wish I still had #4, but it wasn’t up for a plow without front end upgrades, it cost $0 to just get a newer truck with a plow, then rust ate it and it’s currently being replaced. I’m not sure if grease would interfere with the signal, but there’s nothing in there that takes grease so I would suspect the wheel bearing is shot in that case.

Ahh humble pie. If one says they've never experienced it, they haven't tried hard enough or need to clean out their ears! Only saw I've ground on enough to change timing numbers is a craftsman 42cc zenoah clone and both my buddies that run saws are blown away by it. But... they've never experienced ported saws before. Thanks for sharing! We're all still learning!

My 2005 GMC sierra WT was free to me and I got it running around for local putting.I've been running it around for about 10 years,but my "travelling pickup"is a 1993 Chevy K1500 extended cab step side (made in canada) with a 5.7L gas engine,I live in Montana,USA,so winter means 4wd better work. I'm glad they don't salt the roads in my area,so I can be happy for that and both pickups have brought me many Deer,Elk,Antelope home and many,many cords of wood. My favorite saws that I own are the ones that will start when I need them (sometimes well below -0F). Thanks for your work on this channel Tinman,I look forward to your videos! :)

Bump your idle up on your diesel when you let it idle for more then acouple minutes After the cylinder pressure drops it starts to wet stack with fuel so by bumping the idle up it keeps the cylinder pressure up

Tinman, You are a gentleman and a scholar, when we try and make a mistake we don't lose....we learn and become stronger. I found your channel because of Bucking Billy Ray, I am literally like a small kid enthralled by a great teacher who has actually connected, my jaw slack jawed while my eyes and ears are wide open trying to vacuum up every chip to try and save in my brain. I'm looking to port,polish and muffler mod my new Stihl 661 C-M running a 28" bar using hand filed round filed full chisel full comp chain, and after I receive a few double bevel files will buy a few other chains and hand square ground them . I fell, limb,and buck mostly firewood, do a little bit of climbing and pruning. I'm in Pennsylvania, cut mostly Ash,Oak, Poplar and Black Locust. I'm not at all trying to make a hotsaw, just make a great saw the best it can be. I also will use the 661 with a Grandberg and a Logosol to make beams and boards. What do you suggest? Btw a man's choice of Iron Horse ( Truck ) is personal, if it meets your needs ,is reliable, capable of being maintained and repaired by you..... it's the right truck.

Tin man….. your to hard on yourself. You saws are some of the best built saws out there. Your attention to detail is unmatched. You had a few issues using a piston you have never used before. That combination didn’t work. To make an omelette you have to crack some eggs. Hogans 266/272 runs awesome. Chalk it up as a learning experience and Port on! Love the videos

Never heard anyone say a tbi was thirsty. My 94 350 5 speed tbi got 19 mpg when it was 3.73 gears single rear wheels. Now its fully converted to 1 ton dually, wheelbase stretched 4 inches to fit cm 9 ft 6in skirted flatbed and 4.10 gears. On highway I average 17 mpg now.

I have a 1992 chevy 1/2 ton with a 4.3 5 speed transmission. Motor is getting tired I have a 5.7 going to go through and put in it. Still runs good just don't have the power I want or need to pull a trailer. I think the older trucks are better then new ones cheaper to buy and parts are cheaper for the most part

..I've got a '90 C1500 with 350 TBI..2wd, swb..3:08 gears(pretty high), 700R4..and it gets CONSISTENT 17-17.5 mpg, even running it loaded half the time..I'm happy with that!..just wish it was LWB..my old '70 C20 3/4 ton, 2wd, 292 I6, 4 spd manual with granny gear..5:11 gears(great for pulling, not for mpg!)..it's bulletproof, no computer(I like that!), but it gets 8-9 mpg all day long...I used to have an '89 GMC company truck, 2wd, lwb, 350tbi with 700r4...it was peppier than my '90, I'm pretty sure it had lower gears(probably 3:42)..but it still got 15-16 mpg..I'm quite surprised the tbi's you had "drank gas"..now, the old 350's with the electronic Quadrajet carbs?...10 mpg, all day long!...

ive been driving a 1996 acura integra 5 speed that i bought for 400 bucks 5 years ago with a bad alternator and battery. 5 years later all ive had to do to it is regular stuff like plugs wires distributor cap and rotor i replaced one lower balljoint cuz it looked bad and i dont want one of those to go out going down the road and a cv shaft. and a couple fuses. its a hunk a junk but it just doesnt wanna die and is actually a fun little car to drive its not fast its just a nimble little car that you can see out the windows super well all the way artound you basically which i really like. new cars i feel like you cant see out the back windows very well anymore and rely to much on mirrors and cameras and i cant do that. and also you never learn much from stuff going right alll the time you learn stuff when things go wrong.

A full work saw gets straight punished, cut with 8 ten hours a day oil fuel brush the chain, back at it. Never gets cleaned because you just cut for hours, who has the energy to get the saw strip it clean the bar the air filter recoil. You just have a few so one acts up toss it in the truck and grab a new one, fix it in the winter when you have down time.

60cc saw is one of my favorites so far. I’m just out cutting wood for myself and others and my go to is now an 036 that’s got a fresh p/c and running like new. I’d love to try a few huskies or a new stihl 400. But at the end of the day the best saw for me is the one that’s still running. I like tinkering with them, but can’t stand it when I’m trying to get work done.

I have a 95 f350 with a 7.3. It has 316 thousand miles on it. Pennsylvania salt holes everywhere. It’s a beast but scared of the highway cuz 410 gears. It still fires and goes anywhere I wanna go. I’d hate to get rid of it. It’s a work truck. Firewood getter. Plow rig. Easy on fuel. My daily is ten years newer and more comfortable but everything has its place

Just an idea to hear out. Get a drill bit that's thinner than the cooling fins and drill through the fins. As long as the drill bit is thinner than the cooling fins, you will increase the surface area of the fins.

I have a 281 that I blew up then had to wait 3 months before covid even for a oem 288 top end to come in from Sweden. I've been told not to port that saw because I'll never find another oem top end like that. My 288 is my strongest running saw. I need a bottom case for my 2100. When my 2100 was running right that thing had some pull. But even the 288 I can stand on a log with a my 42" Oregon full house exl chain and lean back with all my body weight and pulls me right back even with the nose buried in a 5 foot log.

I would also like to see what can be done with a 55. Nice to see a humble builder, sometimes stubborn pride is a person's worst enemy. I think no matter who the builder is, a production loggers saw is at best a three year dealio, it's gonna pop and die. A saw in a pros hand is like dog yrs to a wood cutters. Ive never been a fan of tuneing i think more stress more fuel , just get a bigger saw i run 2 ms 660s with different bars and an 076 and an 090 for the big stuff and lots of chains chains sharpend at different degrees for hard or medium or soft woods , my mates 462 was ported but only lasted 3 months before seizing up

I think people get too specific in what they are hoping to run across, can be for anything, saws, trucks, whatever, and they miss out on great deals because of it. I had a $500 f250, that I used for firewood, and the frame cracked right up by the steering axle. I loved my old Cummins 12v, but I sold it to buy cancer treatment for my wife in her early 20's (USA! USA! Lol) so I was looking for a clapped out 12v so I could maybe afford it, and I found a 2000 f550 with a 7.3 and a 6spd manual, advertised for $1300. I barely had that, I was looking more for another $500 truck, hah. But I went and looked at it, and the guy had like 10 other 7.3 trucks, and 8 of them needed injectors rebuilt. I offered to rebuild a couple of sets of injectors for him (I'm a disabled diesel mechanic) and so I got a 7.3 6spd manual f550 with AC, and a wet kit pto setup, for like 8hrs work, cause it wouldn't crank, and driver window was busted out. I took the computers apart, cleaned out the corrosion, and got it running, put the drivers window out of my busted f250 in it, and believe it or not, the 4x4 axle out of the f250 bolts right in. The f550 is a 2wd, and 4x4 zf6 transmissions go for like $2500+ where I'm at, but I knew that torque king out of Montana had a divorce kit for the stock f250 transfer case for $400. So for $400, call it $500, $100 for driveshaft shortening, I'll have a 4x4 6spd manual 7.3 diesel f550, if my trans blows up it will be much cheaper to find a 2wd replacement, and with the divorced transfer case, I can. If I find a good deal on a Cummins with trans I can swap that in, with the div. transfer case without spending $1000 on an adapter, and I can sell off the leftovers of the f250 parts truck and probably break even, but if I'd insisted on getting a Cummins truck, id still be looking, and beating on my wife's nice explorer more than I like, pretending it's a beater truck. It pays to keep an open mind is what I'm trying to say, hah.
