About the toy comment you are absolutely right, this model among many Zvezda 1/100 and 1/144 are used for the Arts if Tactic war game sets. The sets already include a few tanks and planes but these are like extra units. Exactly why all of these models have like a flag part in them

@bugler75
@bugler75 5 жыл бұрын
Night Shift most wargamers aren’t modelers ( sorry for generalizing!) and often just do a basic ( by modelers standards) paint job to get their army on the table. Aim to build a platoon size set as they like to buy in sub units. Often now , War gamers come to my to build a specific model for a specific event or game. Some of the Bolt Action game armour models are beautiful and rare in the traditional modelling scales. I’ve also done a lot of work . Team Yankee is also popular. I got started by taking my small Cood War armour to play a Bokt Action game and when they say my armour they were asking me to do theirs. ( my standard is not that high!) I also try to encourage them by explaining and showing techniques, recommending your videos etc. I know there some war gamers who take great pride in building and painting too! We all have our own thing! I used to wargame but it got too complicated for me ! Lol

Ammo 1 shot is just Stynylrez re-packaged. I love Stynylrez primers. They're the best acrylic primer on the market and it's almost impossible to screw it up.

@NightShiftScaleModels 5 жыл бұрын
Better than Mr. Hobby Surfacer? I still think that is the best primer ever :)
@SmallSoldier
@SmallSoldier 5 жыл бұрын
Mr. Hobby is Lacquer based correct? It's great stuff too but if the smell bothers someone then acrylic is the way to go. Stynylrez is awesome because you can actually sand it without it rolling and it bonds way better than any other acrylic primer I've used.
@SmallSoldier
@SmallSoldier 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Tamiya is excellent and I still use it as well. But if you haven't tried Stynylrez yet give it a shot. I was skeptical as well but was sold when I experienced how well it sands out, being an acrylic primer.
@NightShiftScaleModels
@NightShiftScaleModels 5 жыл бұрын
@@SmallSoldier Yup Mr. Hobby is lacquer and the surface it creates is top notch. The smell is really obnoxious though. I didn't like the Tamiya primer though, when trying to polish it after a few hours it started peeling off. Never used it again. If this Ammo one shot is Stynylrez then I'll probably try it again in the future. I really like the convenient bottle and applicator.

there's more to the concept of ambient occlusion than what's being done here which is basically a drop shadow. Wikipedia has a nice paragraph that explains what is done. "Ambient occlusion is most often calculated by casting rays in every direction from the surface. Rays which reach the background or “sky” increase the brightness of the surface, whereas a ray which hits any other object contributes no illumination. As a result, points surrounded by a large amount of geometry are rendered dark, whereas points with little geometry on the visible hemisphere appear light."

Awesome!!!!! I still want to see you do something fantasy, like a robot or futuristic armor. Basically, anything armored and mechanized - but not anything real. I think it would be great to see how you interpret something with no factual reference. I really want this! I know that most of your fans / subs are historical, but I think it's the mark of a professional. I think your exploration would bring the same discussion into a different light - this will (I believe) not only bring you new subscribers, but separate the technique from the medium. In other words, make an abstract of the talent and acquired skills. It will bring learning to us all. In any case, I loved this video! Thank you so much for making it!!!

Seeing that you primed over the old paintjob its a good time for a question i always wanted to ask. Why didnt you strip the paint? How many layers a model can take before it starts loosing detail like bolts and seams, especially like this 1/100?
@NightShiftScaleModels
@NightShiftScaleModels 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. For me, the point where I feel like I HAVE to strip the paint down first is when the model has some texture on it, i.e. mud, loose earth, debris etc. If it's just an airbrushed base coat, varnishes, filters, oil dots, washes, even chipping, the surface is still very (don't wanna say perfectly) smooth and there's no need to strip it down. A different situation might be if I brush-painted some camouflage patterns on top of the base coat, this might lead to some micro paint build-up, but it usually doesn't happen as I try to make every paint layer thin and smooth. You'll actually see something similar with the next model on this channel.
