Tiny Beaded Nutcracker tutorial | 2020 Christmas Earrings | DIY Holiday Charm

These adorable beaded nutcrackers are able to be used as earrings or miniature tree decorations or charms. They are a bit more advanced (intermediate to advanced) and use square stitch, ladder stitch and herringbone. It helps if you know these stitches!
MATERIALS
11/0 Miyuki Delicas in Opaque Dk Navy
11/0 Miyuki Delicas in Galvanized Gold
11/0 Miyuki Round Seeds in Silver-lined Flame Red
11/0 Miyuki Round Seeds in Ivory Pearl Ceylon
15/0 Miyuki Round Seeds in Galvanized Gold
15/0 Miyuki Round Seeds in Black
2x Superduos (not sure on color, to match legs)
1x 6mm Swarovski pearl (Light Cream Rose)
1x 4mm Fire Polished Round (any color)
1x Headpin
Round nose pliers, flush cutters
Fireline 6lb Smoke
#10 or #12 beading needle, bead mat, thread cutters

I was having a heck of a time with the legs being floppy and spinney, so I used monofilament just for the legs. Made them very stable.

@@JulesRose 6 x 8 mm. I would be fooing with the bodies & limbs to perhaps make them smaller, and alternating white & black to look like ribs. You could put orange beads as the face and make scarecrows too, I think.

It’s 4mm. It just has to be big enough to stop the wire falling through the beads, not to stuff the whole hat. He’s smaller than you think! 😊

Thanks for the tutorial. Could you please tell me how to tie off at the end. I'm a newbie at this and wasn't sure what to do with the foot string and the string at the top? Do you just weave, knot and tie off?

Hi Molly, yes, just weave the thread up and into your work, following the beads until it feels secure, then cut the thread. No knot is needed if you weave in and around enough. 😊

I believe it’s 11-10 (11 is the size code, 10 is the color code). I get my Miyuki beads from Caravan Beads and that’s the code I have. Hope that helps! 😊

This is the cutest! I made an intricate pr of Santa earrings, but try as I might, I cannot follow this young lady. From her voice being too quiet, to confusing explanations, and missing steps. Could someone else please teach this cute little guy! I'm trying to be as nice as possible!

Hi Susan, I’m sorry you are struggling with this. There are no missing steps and this does require some intermediate to advanced beading knowledge of stitches like herringbone. You should still be able to follow even if it’s muted. Try pausing and do each thing as I do it. I’m sorry but this is my pattern and therefore no one else is allowed to teach it. If there is a particular spot that’s confusing you, I’d be happy to help you.
