I have been bike packing / train packing with Brompton's for 20 years. I live in Holland, Wild camping forbidden, but most campsites are within 20 km of a station. Brompton's (folded) are free in the train. In a normal weekend I can go out on Friday after work, hit a camping before sundown, and relax until Sunday... What I can take with me is almost ultra light, ca 10kg on the front bag, don't use anything on the back but still need a backpack.

Great video for years we have been using e-bikes carrying on the back of our campervan , because it was hassle to take off bike cover remove straps and remove bike locks we didn’t use them so much also because of the high value we had to carry gold secure locks which weighed as much as a small house . Now we just open the rear doors of our campervan and just unfold and cycle no need for locks most rides as the bikes come with us. We have so many people come up to for a chat about the bikes and owners of Bromptons saying how good they are . We absolutely love our Bromptons

I once fell off my bike when it was almost stopped, slipped on gravel. I hit my head pretty hard just from the fact I couldn't break my fall properly, and the little extra speed. I fell on the side, then my elbow and the momentum just had me tipping over on my head. Since then I never used a bike without a helmet. I have a cousin who is disabled after a car ran into him on his bike too. Concussions are not to be messed about with. Of course it's still a personal choice but it's not like falling when walking.

Hahaaa Great to see Andrew on the channel:) You will never regret owning a Brompton, it's my go to bike if I have to go into town, get some shopping or visit the dentist and it's well capable of extended touring, but like all things one bike will never do everything. The Bromptons downfall is it's not great off road and the small tyres inflated to high pressures are not the most grippy, I've come off my Brompton twice now but no damage. Regarding helmets wear one on every ride, just a couple of weeks ago a good friend fell off her bike and banged her head hard, she wasn't riding very fast at all. Fortunately she was wearing a helmet which broke in 3 places and probably saved her life. If you can afford the Titanium version you won't regret it but a lot of money, Titanium does have some very good properties for a bike frame, When I go Brompton bike packing I have the large bag on the front and a 35 litre rucksack on the back. Check out another KZbin channel called "Brompton Traveller" for any more info :)

I have been bike touring with a tent with a Brompton for 20 years. I just replaced my 2012 Tarpent Notch with newer version. The Brompton fits in the vestibule. I modified my Brompton to have wider range of gears and I'd regularly to a Lakes loop of train to Windermere, bike to Langdale, camp at NT Langdale, bike into Little Langdale, push bke up Wrynose, bike to Hardknot, push up Hardknot, bike down Eskdale to Wasdale Head, camp at NT Wasdale, bike via Ennerdale, Winlatter Pass, camp at Braithwaite, then bike back to Windermere and train home. Camping kit the Notch, Thermarest Xtherm, PHD Minim 300, Jetboil Sol Ti. If it's summer I use a Tarptent Protrail instead, roomier inside, less-warm tent. You'll need 2 Bromptons, one optimised for superlight about-town, carrying into shops, good for train journeys carrying down long train carriages, and another optimised for camp-touring with more gears and a rack to hold sleeping bag + airbed. My current about-town is the T-line 4-speed, replaced a 2007 2sp. My bike-touring is a 2011 6sp + Schlumpf Mountain Drive. Luggage: put heavy stuff in front, I put tent, cooking, food, water, back I put sleeping bag, airbed. In summer I also strap a waterbottle to the seatpost.

If you can afford one, buy the P-line 12-speed. The more gears the better. They are so handy. You can fling them in the boot and when you reach your destination pull it out and go sightseeing. I take it with me when I go car camping.

I watch Andrew’s channel all the time - Tucson, USA. My only suggestion is try not to touch the seat post because oil from your hand attaches to the pole and eventually coats the seat post sleeve making the seat slip more and more over time. If a build up has occurred the best fix is to remove the seat post entirely and clean the sleeve along with the pole with brake cleaner, a bottle brush and thin towel works best. Don’t think the sleeve needs to be replaced when the seat post begins to slip it’s probably just oil buildup.

I have a roadie and an mtb and love cycling but I never get the train. Maybe one day I will, if my dream comes true of having my own bike repair, life style and apparel shop. On the helmet debate, I get all sodes of it. My issue is that my wife is a carer and has a client with a brain injury. The kind that he has can be caused by the slightest fall. I know it's not likely but to me it takes a couple of seconds to put one on and some of them look mint so why not. In Australia it's part of the law. Not sure we need that but they're so many people that dont wear them on longer rides that its just a bit daft. If Paul is going to do any off road cycling he would be obviously be safer on a bike designed for the job. I have a Dahon 18 speed Visc, P18, picked it up for £200 in mint condition last year…11.5kg.12” wheels. For the difference in price, it’s only a tiny bit larger when folded, compared to a Brompton. Not a lot in it, if it’s going in the back of a campervan.

Dahons are made of aluminium. Ride steel bikes and notice the difference!

I know the Brompton has got a place for commuting but those tiny wheels scare me. I've moved from my old 26" mountain bike to a 29er though but back in my motorbike days, I looked at people on on Vespa's and Lambretta's and thought 'those things don't look safe'

Just realised that my grammar school English teacher would have killed me for those apostorphes but, in my defence, I did start working at 06.30 and am still organising camping gear for a trip to Bamburgh with my son

Your fear is totally unfounded and irrational. You have clearly never owned one.

Oh dear; as a cyclist, I've never really considered a Brompton........and now I am looking on their website.....the C-Line in Racing Green is tempting.
