One in the forum nickname *Miraculix* was the craziest :)))) The last meeting (2010) in Schweinfurt really rocked the old people. Those were the days! There is still a Peugeot forum but it's not like it used to be, that's it... and I drive a Suzuki Jimny FJ (heavily modified) which can also go through deep water ;)... It's really fun !!! :) )))

The comparison with the 205 1.9 was slightly odd. Apart from both wearing a Peugeot badge and having a zero between two other digits, they have little in common. One left the factory as a stripped-out lightweight for rally stages, the other is the slightly heavier, slightly faster, but much flabbier cousin of an earlier GTi. A road car full of leather and toys. The 106 Rallye left the factory with no toys... Even the paint was only there to stop rust. It had (from the works) a purity of purpose that the 205 1.9 could never match. And it was light. Very engaging, absorbing and entertaining video of a fast, busy, keen little stage fighter.... Very good. Chapeau.

From a standing start they'll still out accelerate most cars, top end of course is another matter 😅 But you can get away so quick in these just because of the sheer lack of weight and inertia to over come. Originally, 106 Rallye was the Peugeot counterpart of the AX Sport. Both were cheaper than the more powerful GTI version but also lighter, less equipped like a clubsport. The engine was dual carburetor and prepared by Danielson, tuning the two carburetors so they work well together was a pain in the ass, and it seems they needed to be retuned regularly. At first they didn’t use 16v engines and were 1.4 only. This one seems to be a 106 GTI that’s been named Rallye for the export.
