This is the THE watch that made me fall in love with watches. The esthetic of the proportions, text, and crown made me dream about buying it for years. Unfortunately, by the time I had enough money to buy it, I also learned that 46mm is far too massive for me to pull off. So sadly I own many other brands, but not IWC.

I just acquired a IWC Big Pilot 5004 with a 5002 watch face..known as the transitional. The movement is a 51110, which is the dual Peleton movement versus the single Peleton movement that was in the original 5002.

Iwc big pilot annual calendar is a much better watch than the ap royal oak. Useful complication, massive power reserve. Cleaner dial. Under £20k. Royal Oak is massively overrated IMO.

The movement shown 3:27 while talking about the caliber 5000 is in fact caliber 9828 which is housed in the 1993 jubilee version, but not in the Portugieser automatic 7day power reserve reference number iw5000-xx.

I really love my Big Pilot 5004 and the day I could afford one a dream came true. Years of standing before the Juwelershop staring at the Big Pilot were over although I always get a smile on my face when I see the Big Pilot in public or at the juwelershop display. Thanks for the great video.

Also, the part about the mainspring. Glad you brought that up. This is why I wind all my manual wind watches twice a day (including the two pocket watches I use as clocks). To provide consistency they are all wound at 6 am and 6 pm, every day.

Buy a Stowa for 1/5 of the price instead. Just as good quality, Stowa can be cheaper because they don't sell through dealers and spend money on advertising like IWC do. I'm talking about the "standard" IWC pilot. Big pilot is different and more expensive

Nah, the Mark series is probably the more iconic model for IWC - it has been continuously in production since the 1940s. Unlike the Big Pilot which was in hiatus for over 50 years. It even has the original military name - Mark X/XI/XII etc.
