As a child growing up in the late 70's, my Dad loved listening to Elton John. My Dad passed away back in 2009, January 13th was his Birthday. I was pretty bummed out just wishing he was here. As I walked into a gas station to pay for gas with my Dad deep on my mind, "Tiny Dancer" is playing over the gas station radio intercom. Goosebumps, a tear, then a smile across my face. Thank you God, Dad, and everyone else watching from above, it let me know you are still watching me. I love you and miss you Dad.

I would like to thank sir Elton John for writing this lovely piece of music. I was a ballerina. My husband was a music man. I used to live near the boulevard and loved it. Danced in the sand at the beach. My husband sang this song to me lots before he passed. And now I'm still his tiny dancer in the sand.

I lost my voice several years ago, can still talk but cannot sing anymore--it really kills my spirit 'cause I loved singing. So when "Tiny Dancer" comes on, I know when the song reaches the chorus I'm not going to be able to sing it--but my mouth opens anyway, LOL. What comes out may be a croak, but I can't help it, I MUST SING IT! My dogs ran outside, but I sang it, dammit! Thank you Elton John!

@@katylepetsos7512 Oh I don't mind, it's no secret. I developed a tumor on my thyroid, it grew aggressively and was invading the vocal chords. They did surgery to remove the tumor, but it was too late, it had killed my chords. Thank God the tumor wasn't cancer, I'm grateful for that. It just still rankles that I can't sing anymore. Surgeon told me I was lucky I could still talk (most of the time, anyway, LOL) so I'm grateful for that too.

Elton and Bernie had the best written songs of the 70s! Even to this day they all stand up to the test of time. The talent of Elton is so underappreciated in today’s musical world. I remember listening to his songs on the radio and then by buying the albums. Even if you didn’t like the song if you listen to it a few times you still realize it was awesomely great. Elton is a true icon and in a very small group of legends. Not unlike Tom Petty or Edward van Halen. I think I’m going to go listen to my Goodbye Yellowbrick Road album now. Which happens to be the first album I ever bought when I was around 12 years old. I bought it for Bennie and the jets. And what a jackpot that album turned out to be as far as great music. Thank you Elton for the hundreds of great well written songs.

@@aka.gnese07 I have listened to & do listen to a *LOT* of music both professionally, I'm a professional guitarist, & for pleasure & - in my opinion - there was no era like this for music. Rock was new & everything effectively post 1980 was really flogging a very tired horse. To keep the equine references going, you then had one trick dancing ponies like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, etc. who swapped musical integrity for £'s in sinking music to its lowest common denominator. Modern music has been broken down to its key components & has nowhere near the melodic complexity or structural intensity of music from this era. There are some contemporary people I like - *Father John Misty* is a genius but generally my playlist doesn't get much past the 80's.

@@aka.gnese07 what he would disagree with is ANYONE being RUDE, or not allowing any given person to express their opinion about their likes,or dislikes. This Era of musicality, and artistry will never be duplicated. Times, and music change. That is a fact of life. It was very special, and I'm so happy to have grown up with GREAT SINGERS AND MUSICIANS ! I don't mean to be rude by saying this, but has anyone ever taught you that if you don't have anything good to say, it's much better to remain silent ? You just sounded like such a mean person by saying "shut up"

@@pollyyoung7649 I apologize for that, you're right. I shouldn't have been so rude. I was trying to defend young people like me and I got offensive, sorry, but I still stand by what I said in the last comment, in the sense that we should NEVER discredit young modern artits. But now I also understand you're point, like this era of music will never be the same, but I also think that's beautiful because this era had a beggining a long time ago and it makes sense that now it's ended to let other genres and sounds grow into the history of music that are just as valid and beautiful. I want to be clear about that. I don't like the mentality of appreciating only "the good old times" 's art, just because when you were youg that's what you've learned to love and maybe you are not keen to understand the new generation's music (referring to the person I replyed to in the first comment) Also I'm not a native english speaker and a teenager and I'm sorry if I made mistakes

@@aka.gnese07 I think you may be right although you have to dig a lot deeper into the hills of modern music to find the gold. I am now officially getting old having just turned 60 but I have a son probably not far off your age who seems to think music had a lot more meaning & often stories attached to it back in the day. Two examples of this would be 4 songs he's been listening to of late from two artists. *Neil Young's* amazing "Alabama" & "Southern Man" were what caused *Lynyrd Skynyrd* to write "Sweet Home Alabama," Neil Young even gets called out in the song! The other example would be *James Taylor's* subliminal "Fire and Rain" written about the suicide of a close female friend. I don't know.... Things just had an integrity & authenticity to them back then & maybe a novel freshness & originally as Rock was only really a decade or so old! I even think music took the southern trajectory I think it is still on in the 80's when people started making music for the financial gain it could give them & maybe a perceived transient fame? It's just that people were consummate musicians & word smiths back in the day? Well done for apologising btw & congratulations on the use of my nation's language. 👍

For some reason, the "ballerina, you must've seen her-- dancing in the sand." line always chokes me up a bit. My daughter pretended to be a ballerina when she was 4 or 5 while at the beach one summer. I've never forgotten that moment. She's 22 now...😭

I was 7 or 8 when this hit the airwaves. It enhanced my childhood to have great songs like this providing the soundtrack. The best songs were brilliant. Masterpieces that get better with age. With lyrics that grab you later in life. Saturated with nostalgia. But meaningful in their own right.

Will be 40 in December, almost 15 years clean amd and sober. This song just reminds me of 2006 back in rehab, all the older tweaker would listen to the oldies and I play this song to remind me hpw much rehab turned my life around, the temptation is still out there for me. At 25 in 2006, I was listening to Fergie, Panic at the disco, the fray. I use to laugh when they would listen to these old songs, but now I think this song helped to save my life
