Hank Pym's tech is based around the Pym Particle which makes molecular change possible. It is one of the MOST broken technologies in the entire Marvel comic universe. The ramifications of having a particle that allows you to accomplish what you saw on the screen in this movie, would lead to some absolutely mind boggling applications if the science behind it was real.

Ant-Man is a founding member of the Avengers alongside Thor, The Hulk, Wasp and Iron Man. Ant-Man's first appearance (Hank Pym) Tales to Astonish vol. 1 #27 January 1962. Writer Stan Lee, artist Jack Kirby. Captain America joined the Avengers in issue #4 of the Avengers. Avengers first appearance in Avengers vol. 1#1 in which they fought Loki. Writer Stan Lee, artist Jack Kirby. Hank Pym created a serum based on what he referred to as the Pym Particle. Pym particles work by shunting excess mass to the Kosmos dimension while shrinking and adding mass when enlarging. So yes, Ant-Man can shrink to any size. He can also summon and control ants using a device that both transmits and receives psionic/pheromonal/electrical waves. While he is reduced in size he still retains his full size human strength. Scott Lang became the second Ant-Man when Hank Pym could no longer withstand the stress in his body caused by shrinking and enlarging his mass. Hope all that helps. 😂

The Pym particles messed with Darren cross brain chemistry. I think that also what happened to Hank before he realized he needed the specialized helmet to protect his brain because in the comic books Hank was the yellow jacket then he attacked his wife Janet Van dyne. I think a similar thing happened in the MCU but instead of him just attacking her because he was a horrible individual it was the Pym particle messing with his brain chemistry so he's not totally irredeemable.

I am glad to hear you are going to be watching some of the non MCU Marvel films! Blade was good (a trilogy), then in 2000 they started the X-Men franchise (13 movies there) and you also have Spider-Man from Sony. 3 with Tobey Maguire, 2 more with Andrew Garfield. It would be cool if you could slowly sync up the release dates.

You guys won't regret doing Blade. All modern superhero movies can be traced back to that film. Before that there were isolated good ones but most were not given a proper treatment or the technology wasn't up to scratch yet. Batman Returns is good, 1990 Ninja Turtles was good, but not many others spring to mind before Blade blew the door wide open.

I am overjoyed that you guys are considering incorporating the pre-MCU era Marvel movies, you won’t regret it. Starting with Blade is awesome!!! The X-Men were my *known introduction to Marvel via the early 90’s animated series and have been my favorite corner of Marvel ever since. It would be awesome to see your reaction to the movies and if you have the time at some point the animated series. You also might find The Fantastic Four films from 2005 & 2007 enjoyable, and be happy to see a familiar face 😉 * I technically watched the “Howard the Duck” movie as a kid in the 80’s but didn’t know it was Marvel related until I was grown.

Great reaction, guys! You do have a point about the weight/mass thing, but like most powers in these movies it's best not to think about the real-world physics too much and just enjoy the ride. Hydra is basically made up of multiple different cells, so even if you think you've destroyed the main organisation, there will be another cell ready to replace it. That's why their motto is "cut off one head, two more will rise to take it's place." The end credit scene will make more sense once you watch Captain America: Civil War. I can't wait to see your reaction to that movie!

This was so much fun!!! I love this movie and you guys are always so positive and have such great enthusiasm! One of the things I love most about this movie is that in the end we see a realistic positive family dynamic. Scott and Maggie didn’t reconcile in a romantic way, Paxton came around and realized Scott is a good person and father, and we see this awesome blended family bonding around the dinner table over the one person they all love, Cassie. It is so wholesome and refreshing to see this positive look on life after divorce, moving past your mistakes, and coming back together to ensure the child is safe, happy, and loved.

Mass is not the same as weight. Mass is the totality of particles in a given object which doesn’t change. Weight describes the gravitational force operating on an object’s mass, but weight can appear to change because of other factors. Think of how floating on water or the movement of air can give the appearance of weightlessness. Scott is strong because he retains his mass but that’s not enough. He also has to use force to propel himself into combat and whatnot. Since he’s tiny there may be many factors that change his apparent “weight.” I guess. 🤷‍♀️ 😂

Mass stays the same no Weight. Weight is Mass + Volume. Mass is the amount of Matter in an object they aren't removing matter from you while Shrinking, Volume is the amount of space an object takes up, they are shrinking the amount of Volume. So you would weight less as the value of your volume goes down but since you keep the same amount of Matter you are still maintaining the same amount of density, there's is an amount of having to just writing off the science to Fiction to make it work. Then again if they could actually explain it in real detail we would be able to shrink people in real life. But basically it works by shrinking the distance between molecules so you essentially become denser. Density being the amount of space between molecules not necessarily more weight Dense things are often heavier because you can fit more matter into is since it's so condense, but doesn't always equal Weight. That's why Weight is not just Matter but matter+ Volume. Do to the limitations of Density there's only so much matter you can fit within a small volume object so there will always be a limitation on how much something can weight before having to add more volume to it making it bigger. But it's also just Sifi movie magic.

Yeah, Ant-Man is one of those characters you have to just suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride. If you think about it logically, it just falls apart. 🤷‍♂️

Regarding the tank and weight, it's been a while (decades) since I studied any of this, but mass is different than weight. A person or object that shrinks retains their mass, but not their weight. It is why Ant-Man can run across the floor without the weight of a fully grown man compressed into his tiny feet cracking the floor.

For the time, Antman was so refreshing as an MCU movie. The others were so intense and on the dark side. This was one of the first that was more light and comedic. Such a great cast. Loved every minute of it. Great reaction guys!

1. The suits allow the user to regulate whether to use your full strength or relatively shrunken strength - Hope mentioned this briefly in their training session 2. Hydra wasn't completely eradicated in Winter Soldier, they were just exposed and SHIELD was dismantled...some were taken in by the law, but they continue to work underground...you will see some familiar faces at the start of Civil War😉

From what I understand, the reason you don't see Hope in the Wasp costume in the post credit scene was because Evangeline Lilly was actually pregnant and showing when they shot it so there was no way she would have been able to fit into the costume.

When Hank Tells his former assistant that he saw too much of himself in him. Hank Pym was arrogant and thought that his goals were superior to everyone else's, and the ends justified the means. He was a borderline villain.

The science doesn’t science. Not based on the explanation we get. As a longtime Marvel fan, I do as Stan Lee suggested way back when. If their explanation doesn’t fit, come up with a better one. Intentions matter. The tech allows the transformation of mass into energy and back as desired by the user.

well, about the suit/weight mass thing, we could also argue about Tony's briefcase suit Pepper gave him in IronMan2 in Monaco, they carried that around no problem but it should have been extremely heavy.....
