I see the glue strings on the rafters and I had to look at video 2 times after reading comments. Looks like it will be stout as a tank, well a wood tank but who's gonna argue with ya traveling behind ya if there isn't pieces falling off smashing windshields..lol..Looking good !!

I absolutely love your channel. The videos are amazing and the music is enjoyable and easy to listen to. I am curious about the gaps in the wall boards... Since they are likely created by oddities in the wood are they negligible? Does anything special have to be done to take care of those when wrapping and insulating the house?

I only used ply on my roof.. Kind of afraid of actually taking this on the road.. but no worries, its never meant to move !! Any future builds i do i will have at least t1-11 siding or ply inside for regidity
@TinyHouseCustoms9 жыл бұрын
Hawks Tinyhouse And Mountain Adventures I took it out on the road the other day. it was little scary. 1 because it held everything i own and have in my life and 2 cause i t was just so big. but i made it to the new build location in one piece. that videos probably 16 weeks out though.

I appreciate the videos, I watch them a lot. The biggest hurdle I am finding is the strength to lift and muscle to move heavier items....lol You make it look like a piece of plywood is 5 lbs....I watch a lot to learn tricks on lifting and moving items around...Any tips are helpful...thx ( the two initials at the end of my tag is for my dog Brown Sugar. just so you know it is not just BS....)

Wow you are fast. Question: Rather than have the last plywood 12" why not make the middle run 36" so you have more width on the end? I assume it is due to speed and saves lumber or keeping factory edges together.
@TinyHouseCustoms9 жыл бұрын
+Randall Ijams no real reason, but that 12" strip is really weak. if I would do it over, I would have started with a 3' rip then full sheet and then a 3ish ft piece on top for more strength. but there wont be much weight up there.

@TinyHouseCustoms8 жыл бұрын
1/2" but it's sold as something like 15/32, which is a hair under 1/2". If you went with 2' on center rafters you might want to use 5/8".

Before the economy tanked I was project designer for a builder. His crew always glued and screwed both floor and roof decking which enhances the rigidity of both systems. Curious, I saw you glued the floor decking so why did you chose to only nail the roof decking?
@TinyHouseCustoms9 жыл бұрын
I glued all the plywood floors, roof and walls. I didn't say it in the video but you could kinda see me putting it down.
@redbugg999 жыл бұрын
I watched this video on my phone and I clearly see the glue... this guy is a 100% DIY on his project and not having a camera person or help to is stressful to concentrate ... he is doing a great job

Tiny House Customs I saw you building the floor but I was doing invoicing for a client and missed you gluing the roof sheathing. My bad.
@randallijams22219 жыл бұрын
I really like your attention to detail. I noticed the plywood on one wall did not over lap (extend 1/2" beyond 2x4) the other wall. Any reason one way or the other?
@TinyHouseCustoms9 жыл бұрын
+Randall Ijams I always keep my plywood back a 1/16" from the framing. it will prevent problems later. theirs no benefit of having the plywood run that extra 1/2" and if it were to go past the 1/2" it would cause problems when I do my trim

Are you doing hurricane ties and all that?
@TinyHouseCustoms9 жыл бұрын
On day maybe. Hurricane ties are a gimmicky kinda thing. If a big storm hits your house it'd almost be better if you lost the whole roof cause then you wouldn't have to remove the damaged material. Took the house on the road today and she did fine. I'm more concerned with tying the house down to the ground so the wind from a storm won't push it over.
@edwardcarberry10957 жыл бұрын
I hope I describe this properly. At your 0.31 sec time when you are doing the ??end/s?? I see a lot of roofs with the ends badly sagged not old homes for the most part. So my Idea is to come back one or two rafters widths. This should provide more support over the house and keep the outside from sagging. Your wall support would be lower by the thickness of your ??lateral rafters, (2x4 or 2x6's) and use the tin end supports as well. One could up size your outer edges so that there would be very good strength. Probably put in a double rafter as well where they meet. I see a lot of roofs where the ends sage badly this would should prevent this. Hope I described this well enough? Ha hehee your getting older when you can't walk the wall. Been there figured out I could not do it, so didn't. Sorry I would have put the strip in the middle/ staggered for edge strength reasons. You put it at the top. I am not a carpenter..

+Tiny House Customs Gotta say this was interesting video, cause i'm house builder by trade and i learned lots of nice little trick while watching you work. Where i'm from we use only brazes, not spring brazes, so that was new and your electric cord trick (unplug prevention via knot) was also great, never thought to do that! Thanks!

Curious as to the brand of nailer you have. Is it the same one you used for framing, or do you have two of them?

Dale Sakawsky ahh i figured out what you were talking about. the diagonal on the exterior wall... this isn't the 60's anymore. theres been major improvement in building materials where a mortised in diagonal isn't needed anymore. how many present day home do you go in and see a mortised diagonal? none...
