And I personally do not see anyone as «little people» I do not believe I am special in any way, I’ve just spent a lot of time to learn to do something that I enjoy doing and I believe in engaging with my viewers rather than just ignoring the comments. I think for this case the biggest «innovation» was the four way joint, I have no idea if this has been done before in a 3D print as I’ve never come across it before, but I’m guessing I’m not the first in history to do this. (But who knows?) 😁

Nice! This is cool. I've been mulling over designing a compact mATX printable case. Something just big enough for the mobo, a vertically mounted gpu, and a PSU. For some simple workstations a client of mine is building. M2 storage so no harddrive slots needed. your work is very inspiring.

MATX motherboard with an ATX/SFX psu right next to the RAM/24pin connector, and a vertical GPU. For a «console style» relatively slim (about 100mm thick) case.

This is a geat case, full ATX at last and clever use of this joint to make panels ! On a different note, I would love to see a "media center" horizontal case that can slide into these IKEA cabinets under your TV. I still have my old ANTEC Fusion case that looks like an amp and would love to see one 3D printed to cover the full range of cases available on the market !

This is super rad and I may make my own case for a hyperspecific purpose using most of the design principles from this. If I can suggest something, people make tools and jigs to gauge magnet polarity if you want to be super safe about it, but I suggest something a bit more simple. Instead of gluing magnets in one by one, simply glue all the magnets on one part, then stack an extra magnet once the glue is set. You can then put the second part on top, using the second magnet as an aligning feature and press the magnets into place. This ensures *all* of your magnets are the correct sticking orientation, even if you inserted some magnets in the wrong orientation the first time!

Yeah I thought about doing the approach on the magnets the way you explained here, however I ended up not because to make the magnets stay in place the tolerances would have to be pretty much spot on, and I can’t be sure that’s the case for all possible users. Optionally this method could work if pre-applying glue to the holes on the side panel before pushing it into place, but to do that you’d need a slow curing glue as hot glue will cool down too fast for all 12 magnets at the same time. And slow curing glue may run into risk of running which can end up gluing the panels to each other instead, at least these were my thoughts which lead me to do each one individually 😁

Impressive build! For those of us who only have tiny printers, I'd love to see a respin on your 2.9L case that would make it printable on smaller print beds. Personally, I'd also like to see a "media center"-friendly mATX case (as in, sitting on the motherboard side, not much taller than a GPU, and not much more deep than the motherboard). Basically, roughly the size of an AV amp. And, of course, tiny printer friendly :P

Thank you Jonathan! The small drive bay in this build is also intended as a test for my next NAS build! This new mount is much easier to pull in and out 😁 I’m planning to eventually get to a bigger NAS too over the summer, but I have quite big plans for that build, so it will take some time. Due to summer vacations etc I’ll probably be sticking to a couple «smaller projects» in July and August then throw myself at something bigger again once the summer is over. (However, plans may change, I kind of decide as I go) 😄

Excellent work on this case design! I really like the fact it does not require a really really large print bed. At first look, I thought this is a modular case design where I can stack additional pieces to make it a really really tall tower. Do you have plans to make the case stackable? For example, turning the case into a NAS or server tower, whereas the bottom portion is a ATX tower and then you can have additional modular 'half-height' tower with only fan slots and HDD/SSD racks. They locked onto each other and stacked on top. I think it would be a really cool addition.

Grey parts are PLA and black parts are PETG. mainly because that’s what I can find easily locally tbh. Has always worked well for me in all builds I’ve done regardless of whether I used PLA or PETG.

11:25 Usually, you can put threaded inserts from both sides of the hole. So, for Pci-e slots it may be easier to insert them from the opposite side, having much more space.

I love your designs, the commitment to different PC cases and testing them for thermal properties. I also fully understand your small fees for these designs (as such process is lengthy and requires some tests using more filament). However, considering 2.5 kg of filament required for this case and prices of around 20 EUR/USD per kg of PETG, some other parts (screws, inserts) the total cost of such case increases to around 60 USD/EUR plus many hours or printing. Therefore, some folks may decide to go with available metal cases save money and time. I know, it is a fun designing such or building PCs, but some may prefer saving time, money and ordering a metal case from Amazon. Anyway, please keep going with these designs and improvements, as they really give nice ideas not only for PC builder but for any other print designs. Thank you very much!

Hmm, it may be possible in the front by using a quite short GPU. I’d have to double check if there’s enough space to fit drives laying flat. But I’m afraid it may not work well as I think the drives might be just too wide and they require the whole width of the case to fit properly.

sir, i would humbly recommend looking at embedding 3mm stainless steel or carbon fiber rods as reinforcement for panels constructed like this. would do wonders for stiffness.

Honestly, no need, this is more than stiff enough for it’s use. Did you see the clip where I lifted the whole cover from one corner and it barely even flexed? 😉 In many use cases embedding steel rods could do wonders but in this case it’s actually not necessary 😊

It’s on my to-do list for this one also! I’ve got some on the way from AliExpress which should arrive any day now! The plan is to add two ports vertically most likely on the right side of the logo panel (outside of the sliding part)😊 I just didn’t want to postpone the whole project due to waiting on the USB to arrive. This is just a theory and the final location may vary if I find that it doesn’t fit as I hoped. Another possible location is the top right above the upper panel, by just shortening the upper front slide panel by a few millimeters.

Hi Mike! Thank you so much and awesome to hear you’re taking a step into the 3D printing world. When you say Mini S, do you mean the Little Boy S? If so, then currently it’s not any «easy» way to split the panels and join them without loosing strengt. However, it’s definitely possible with some slight modifications. Which of the panels did you consider re-printing? Also, I’m currently working on another «tiny-printer-friendly» case design which will be posted early to mid-july or something like that as I’m going on a two week vacation starting tomorrow.

Are you talking about something like Silverstone did with their Alta F1? I mean "front mounted full size PSU". This is still something I want so see in the future - yes you can not easily plug things into the MB or GPU, but I don't remember doing so very often if at all. Would love to see a Variant with 90° turned MB and those top and bottom mounted Fans. 2x 140mm should be sufficient.

Please design its big brother. There are lots of people with medium printers out there. I imagine the bit of extra space on a bambu P1S, X1C, Qidi Q1 pro, creality K1, Prusa MK4, Core one etc could make for a really nice size. Add in the cable routing area, drive bay options, etc.

@@makerunit I have bought that but have issue that for some reason when load correct firmware for it I got error failed to heat up nozzle, when load other firmware this is disappearing. Have contacted creality support but it was very slow process and didn't solved my issue. Will try again to connect the add-on and load firmware

Really great build! I've been wanting a case that could be printed on my prusa mini. I see a lot of fully 3d printed cases though. Have you ever though about designing a case that uses Plastic sheet you can buy on amazon or some hardware stores? I understand not wanting to use metal since that makes it harder to keep shorts from happening. I think going that route may make it easier to add space for cable management.

Lovely project! I would suggest maybe trying to add an integral and adjustable way to deal with GPU sag. Having a plastic frame that can deform even more than metal can really tweak on the PCIe slot and GPU board itself. Most solutions are little 'jackstands' that have no great way to be anchored to the case, maybe you can solve that? OFC this brings up an issue of how much pressure you can reasonably put on the panel faces.

Hi! Thank you! Actually the bottom panels can support quite a bit of weight as they’re pretty well supported on the surface below with the feet. I notice even my 3070 has some sag to it as it is now. However this happens in all cases and I don’t believe it’s directly caused by the plastic mount though. I’ll definitely be looking into ways of supporting the GPU for future projects/upgrades 🙂

(About a possible fix, not the sag of course) GPU's have gotten heavier and heavier over the years, my system actually started misbehaving over a year after putting my horizontal miniATX into a vertical mid-ATX case, ended up being GPU sag on my 2080 that had worked fine for 2 years prior! So had to print a riser!

Definitely an inspiring build. I recently got an FDM printer and have been thinking of designing a case myself. When you designed the case to fit on a smaller printer, was each 180x180 panel designed separately, or did you design them as a full size panel and then split them up to fit?

I pretty much made four 180mm squares, extruded them to 10mm thickness, then added a pattern to one of the four, then deleted the three others again and duplicated/rotated the one panel 90 degrees while copying it around the center axis and did that four times, then I added a way of joining them together and manually added each individual magnet mounts to match the main body locations, and the guinding pins 😅 I hope my explaination made some sense.

@@gwtrainguy1 If the intention is to split a panel and you know that already before the design starts it's easier to also design according to those requirements. For example the pattern isn't random. It's intentionally made for them all to "meet" in the middle to make the joint as "invisible" as possible. So in other words the panel was designed with the intention of hiding or "camouflaging" the joint in plain sight. Another example of the other way around was my latest ITX case, the olive green one. That design was first designed for only 300x300mm beds, but then ended up making the split version afterwards, resulting in a much more obvious side panel joint than if I took that into consideration already from the start...

Thank you! The reason for only including 240mm support at the top is the fact that the motherboard takes up some of the width space there due to the IO shield area and the heatsinks at the top of the motherboard. While in the front, there is nothing in the way of using the full inside width og the case for a bigger 280mm radiator. By making the model about 20mm wider (requiring a 200mm build plate), it should be possible to adapt to a bigger radiator as well.

So awesome! This'll definitely be the case I use in a few years when I upgrade my PC! It's so hard to find a case with a solid side panel these days (glass lets me see the IMO ugly cables, and mesh lets out too much sound). I'm already thinking about what cool colors I could print the case with. I might try white and black for an Oreo look, or I could do beige for a sleeper PC. Or maybe blue pink and white for my favorite Pokémon Sylveon. So many options! I have a really big printer though (Neptune 4 Plus), so I might try to merge some panels in Blender instead of IRL so I can print them in one piece for an even cleaner look. Thank you!

That’s true, but would also add to the overall width of the case resulting in it not being as compact. Also in a fully enclosed case with no see-through parts I feel like the cable management looking very clean isn’t as cruicial.

I'd personally recommend moving the HDD cage to the bottom so that people can remove the semi useless bottom fan. That way you can still have the storage you need with the GPU you have.

Yeah it did cross my mind doing that as well, but I decided not to at that point as I wanted to prefer the GPU cooling. I wouldn’t call it useless though as it pulls in fresh air and pushes it up to the GPU rather than the GPU circulating hot air from the inside of the case, though I see your point 😊

My simple tip is, don’t give up, you will probably fail a couple times in certain areas and not make it perfect the first time, but that’s how we learn and it’s very valuable knowledge you can bring on to future projects. The especially difficult part is to consider how «printable» a part is, with overhangs, joints, component weight and much more to consider every step of the way.

Thank you! And that it should be possible to do that as well. However, it does require some minor adjustments to the design files. Technically all that’s needed is to add four new screwholes to the bottom panel and the drive cage can simply be mounted wherever you feel like really.

Hi! As long as you use the recommended hardware like the chassis fans etc, it should not be an issue as the fans will constantly swap out the air inside the case to keep things from getting too hot. Regardless, I recommend using a filament that can take higher temperatures. Like PETG, ASA or ABS. 😊

awesome, i was looking at basic atx cases since i have parts to build 4 old am3+ systems but on the consumer market even the most basic midtower atx cases are ~$45, so i thought why not get into 3d printing now and just print some as part of the learning process. Bought an ender 3 v3 ke and am getting it set up, i went to look for some atx case file but the very few fully atx support including atx psu are either way too complicated, require expensive supports (beamcase), or are really super jank. I didnt need a full midtower case so even accessing all the pcie slots wont be an issue as most of them will only need one for a basic output gpu, with one not even needing pcie slots since the really odd biostar mb has integrated graphics. This is perfect, fully worth the $12 for the files. Only items i dont have currently are the m3 4.6 od inserts, and ill have to see if my old soldering gun still works. Ill come back to this once I have at least 1 system built with this in ~3 weeks time

I would recommend seeing if you find 4.6 if possible, as many of the holes are exactly 4.5mm, if the insert is 4.5 too it may end up not getting a good grip, however I do think it will work, you’d need an extremely precise printer for that to be an issue 😊 And, thank you! 😊 I’m glad you like the case!

Hi! I used a combination of PETG and PLA, but I recommend using PETG, ABS or ASA if you can. If printing something like this I would not recommend using a 3D printing service as it would probably cost way too much because it’s so many parts. It would probably be cheaper to just buy a new entry level 3D printer and print it for yourself. Bambu Lab actually has a big sale right now so you can get some really good printers with great discounts this week! But there are many options availble as low as $150 and up.

Thank you! A console build is on my to-do list! What I’m thinking is mATX or maybe even ATX, and a vertical GPU close to the PCIE connectors. I’m guessing the CPU cooler clearance would end up around 80mm as it would allow the use of an ATX psu, and a 3-slot GPU.

@@soup_bone Fun to hear you’re entering the world of 3D printing! When it comes to filament recommendations I have personally never had issues with any type of filament I’ve bought. The only thing is that some filaments may print better or worse depending on whether you use the correct temp or not. Some PETG prints very well at 220c on my smaller slow printers, while my fast K1 Max needs closer to 260c on the same filament to get good results due to the speeds it needs to melt the plastic faster if that makes sense. Can’t really recommend any specific brands as I’m mainly using just the cheapest stuff I can find and rarely have any issues. Some disagree with this though, what climate you live in may also affect the filament. I for instance live in Norway where it’s generally not very humid, so my filament stays in good condition, but some people experience issues with the filament getting wet etc due to humidity absorbing into the plastic which again can result in issues. I hope this helps you out somewhat even though I couldn’t give any direct recommendations. 😊

Hi! Micro ATX motherboards work perfect in this case. Actually I’m using a mATX motherboard in the video as I didn’t have an ATX board available even though the case also supports ATX boards. Even Mini ITX will work as they all use the same standard mounting holes 😊

Hi! The only way I can think of to use a full size ATX motherboard and all the slots available is to use a SFX psu mounted at the top rear, but this will reduce the max CPU cooler height. With a big ATX psu at the bottom it’s not possible to keep all the slots clear unfortunately. I hope this helps you decide

The plastic case accumulates static voltage. In conventional metal cases, the motherboard is attached to a metal plate that has a common contact with the power supply. Have you considered this potential problem in your design? I'm currently designing a home storage system and plan to connect the power supply housing and the motherboard mounting points with a common bus.

However, with over 30.000 downloads and thousands of people building my cases I have had not a single report from anyone that this has caused issues. I recommend going for PETG, however, I’m personally using PLA for the grey panels and I’m not experiencing any problems with that. I’m using PETG for the black center chassis.

Nice. Love the the design especially the butterfly joints. The SFX PSU is giving me trauma. I recently had an SFX PSU failure just recently which made it the fourth one since I started using ITX cases. Three of them lasted only for 2 years while one lasted just for one year. So, I just 3D printed brackets for a non-gaming SFX-L PSU that I'll slapped to the side of my current ITX case which only has enough room for an SFX. And I have to cut a hole on the case for the power cables to get in. No fancy screw insets, just cable ties.

Thank you! Yeah the butterfly joints can be very practical in many cases, but they generallt require a relatively thick panel to push it into to get the strength. In this case the sides are 10mm thick (7 in the grooves). Sorry to hear you’ve had so many SFX psu’s failing on you. I’ve ever owned two, a Corsair SF450 and a CoolerMaster V850 which I’ve had for many years now and they still work very well…

@@makerunit Perhaps SFX PSUs are not meant for constant travel. I pretty much used my ITX desktop PC as my daily driver between work and two homes. I used to own a gaming laptop but after stumbling upon some ITX cases and the only ITX motherboard next to them in a nearby PC shop several years ago I immediately became an ITX enthusiast. On a side note I was planning to start making a custom case that combined my old PC parts with a portable monitor like an AIO PC but the dead PSU threw a wrench on that. I guess I'll carry on with the project without a PSU and practice adding insets into 3D print parts first.

But powerful laptops are expensive and not great price-to-performance. So for gaming I’m still using my desktop PC as the performance is overwhelmingly better, and gives me G-sync and much higher framerates even at 1440p ultrawide high settings

Printed your latest NAS and loved it, but man the magnets suck. I would love to see some clever designs that don't require them. They're quite a hassle to get set into place if tolerances are off - I'd rather screws.

Thank you! And I totally understand. Magnets are «tricky». Which is also why in this case I went for 8.2mm holes for the 8mm magnets, and rather encourage people to use glue. In the NAS the magnet holes were 8.1mm which even for me felt quite tight.

Honestly i have a server computer, it uses a 5600G so i dont really have the need for a gpu, but i do use an matx so i can expand ram if i need to. but i really want something super small. And I use a super low profile cooler from noctua. Ive tried to follow your tutorial too in the past. Any tips or ideas?

The case is actually very sturdy when all parts are connected. The wobble you see on the outside of the case is due to the feet being a little too close together in my version. But this has been corrected in the publicly available model 😊

@@xoriso3d the goal of my projects aren’t necessarily to make them as cheap as possible. If that was the goal I’d go for a much simpler design, however, my goal is to create something different, and unique while having the joy of building something yourself that can be customized easily, and I think that’s also what a lot of people lean towards when building these projects. If I didn’t enjoy building stuff, I’d 100% go for a factory made alternative instead as they’re both cheap and sturdy.

Definitely! Would look cool but those IKEA doors are HEAVY and will most likely be a bit risky to have on a lightweight 3D printed chassis. And also they’re quite big at around 60x60cm. 😅 I have a few of those black tinted glass doors (for IKEA BESTÅ cupboards) and I’m not sure if I would trust a plastic case to hold them.
