Tiny Tour | Tortosa Spain | A beautiful ancient city by the river Ebro | 2020 Sep

Tortosa is a city and municipality in Catalunya, capital of the Baix Ebre region. It is also the seat of the diocese of Tortosa and is an important agricultural, commercial and industrial center.
Tortosa is located at 12 metres (39 feet) above sea level, by the Ebro River, protected on its northern side by the mountains of the Cardó Massif, of which Buinaca, one of the highest peaks, is located within Tortosa's municipal boundary.
Tortosa was possibly the city of Hibera, capital of the Iberian territory of Ilercavonia. It is very likely that the main settlement was on the hill that currently occupies the Castillo de la Suda. It was Dertosa under the Roman Empire, occupied in 714 by the Muslims.
The economy of the municipality is based on the commercial and service activity in the city, at the same time as an industrial sector located in the Bajo Ebro industrial estate, the South Catalonia industrial estate (called to be the regional economic engine) and the Polygon of the Station next to that of Ravaleta de Roquetes. Another of its activities is the agricultural sector.
Dertosa is the name of a city of Roman Hispania that corresponds to the present city of Tortosa. The town preserves an important epigraphic collection (many of its inscriptions were recorded by Emil Hübner and collected in the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum II) and archaeological remains such as granite columns, which can be seen in this episode.

Thanks so much for all of the movies you've recorded of the Spanish towns and cities - the videos of the Costa Dorada and Costa Brava localities (Cambrils, Salou, Sitges, Tortosa, etc) bring back so many happy holiday memories, whilst the others that I'm less familiar with offer new possibilities for visiting. Another great video. Thank you for bringing the city, cathedrals and churches as well as the beautiful landscape around closer. The river Ebro seems to me to be calm, without shipping and therefore also suitable for drafting. Maybe a good tip for a week-long vacation for a group of friends of drafting and river rafting.

Yes, many people go canoeing in the river Ebro in summer. Also near Miravet where the river is curvy and peaceful with mountains and forest on the banks.

Awesome video! Tell me: could one spend a couple of days in Tortosa? It doesn't look big, but just by looking at the opening shots of your video it makes me think like some days could be spent there.

Thanks. Certainly Tortosa is a city worth spending a couple of days to explore. There're still many places we didn't have enough time to film on that day. There're also some nice nearby towns worth paying a visit if you found finishing Tortosa too quickly, such as Miravet, 41 minutes drive from Tortosa. We also made an episode there. And Miami Platja of Mont-roig, 40 minutes from Tortosa, great coastline and lovely little town.

@@BABeenHere Thanks, great to know! I will be staying in Tarragona for a couple of weeks in July, and I plan on taking lots of day trips (to Barcelona, to Miravet, to Tortosa, etc., to local beaches, etc.) I was unaware of Tortosa until I saw your video, so thanks again for posting it!

It's nice to see a Spanish riverfront that still retains some natural aspects, but sadly, it's spoiled by the noisy jackasses boating on it. 😥

Fortunately a rare occurence. Pretty peaceful most of the time. (I live in Tortosa so speak with authority. This video does a good job of representing it.)

In tortosa we have a bery powerfull rowing club, the boats are usually from their trainers, it is not a usuall thing to see motor boats going across the river beacause it is a very protected envoirament that leads to one of the biggest deltas of europe, the Delta of Ebro
