We have installed our tiny wood stove in our tiny cabin today. It will keep the tiny cabin warm while we build our off grid cabin. We also include a sticker shock on plywood prices, it is crazy!

One of those little stoves might just be the ticket for the garage I want to build. I'll keep that in mind. Great idea to repurchase the power feed pipe, but make sure the galvanizing burns off before y'all are in there for any length of time. A couple of good hot fires ought to cook it off. I can see this new cabin about to be kicked into high gear as soon as the weather gives y'all a break. 🏃‍♂️🏋‍♂️🤸

Nice work getting the stove installed in your warming hut so you can continue on with the build! As I recall, this tiny stove will be good to use as a portable campfire unit as well--later on when the cabin is done, and the warming hut reverts back to a storage shed. Cool idea! Actually, warm idea!

Using that power pole for a chimney stack very resourceful, giving it a second life, cute little stove, will have to use alot of 'walking wood' to stay warm but it beats being cold while you're building, we are getting hammered with rain out here in NS as well.

Pretty much the same in terms of cost$ here in the States. Gone down some but still crazy. The bigger problem we have here is worker shortage! Tough to get full crews, and those teams that are working have weeks of backlogs. So kudos to you guys for doing as much work as you can. I wish I had tyvek house wrap on my cabin, I think it would have kept my cabin from breathing as much. But honestly best way to go is building it ground up, but sometimes it's faster using what you have already 😉. Love the woodstove! I don't think I've seen them that size!

Lookin good! I'd recommend replacing the elbow on the stovepipe for a proper vent cap to help induce a better draft and creosote build up. It will help get the fire going better as a result. Just adapting an oversized cap would do bring as its likely difficult to find one that small.

Is that pipe galvanized? As for Zip, that price has fluctuated a fair amount. A price comparison maybe two years ago had it much closer in price to OSB, to the point where it might have been cost-effective in some settings. The other gain is energy savings down the road. It's easier to get Zip air sealed. But you don't really need a perfect air seal for your shed, so that aspect is moot.
@MBFModernHomesteading
@MBFModernHomesteading 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the price of everything has fluctuated a lot, as we mentioned in the video about the 7/16 osb. Having said that, it is quite a bit different right now and I was referring to folks building now and the prices in their areas. We did some research and it seems to be close to double in the cost in many areas. I personally can't see any energy savings and also couldn't see how it would be easier to seal as you need to tape way more seams than you need to tape with tyvek (house wrap) as it only requires tape on the end seam or when on the next level, gable end, etc. Way less taping. And we are not using it on our shed but on the main cabin. We obviously don't know what others pay for the stuff but for us is was a no- brainer to just use the house wrap again.
