The unofficial OSMS servers all allow multi-client, so half the server is full of afk players getting leech, and the other half are arch-mages selling leech. Despite how populated they are, there is very little activity in them. Artale, at least in it's current state, requires you to actually play!

I don't really want to support Nexon products and what you are saying is true. Playing on revival which doesnt allow multiclient is scratching that itch, although the trade off is peak population Ive seen is around 24 players. The interesting part is I have interacted and made more friends and overall felt less lonely than in popular servers like legends or royals.

honestly unofficial servers gave the full maplestory experience already. I don't see a reason to play artale and the like. Leeching being a major issue not fixed in ANY maplestory server, I don't see it fixed in these old school servers and bishops giving more exp in a party than alone enables leeching more and more. The game has problems and until now I don't see sane people fixing them.

Artale also has a leech limit too. You need to be within 5 levels of a player, or the monster, to leech, and you need to be actively attacking monsters, otherwise you don't get any leech.

I actually love it, with like 1,000 channels or more. with 50 max, means the best maps in the game dont have 30 people on each channel. I can farm for hours on the best maps solo and its wonderful. And unlike 2004, discord is a thing now. So you can still find parties to do content if you want to without sacrificing having that.

My biggest gripe is the lack of multiple character slots which the game’s competition Maple Land has multiple character slots since that game is more refined and as close to perfect as possible Supposedly the Maple Land devs are considering a global launch but it might not be any time soon

The change to punching as a ranged character is purely a good thing. Yes, it makes it so those classes don't go to suboptimal maps and can now go to the maps other players use. But also, the only reason archers had to use those maps is because this mechanic forces them there. No archer or assassin went to those maps because they liked to be there. They went there because there was no alternative.

From a balance standpoint it's highly debateable, whether you personally think it's purely a good thing or not. The tradeoff was always that there are also many, many maps where ranged classes excel at over melee due to the fact that they can sit in safe locations and clear platforms. Monkey Forest, Lost Time, Ghost Ship, countless other spots. You can debate both sides and it really comes down to your personal thoughts on balance. And I say all of this as someone who heavily played(plays) bowmaster and assassin.

The secondaryless stat builds revolve around certain equip availability to cover the stat requirements you need normally, specifically maple weapons, and provide most of the benefit of increased power in 1 to 3rd job ranges. there are no maple weapons currently in the server, ive heard mixed things on whether or not they will be released. Mage is the only one that does Lukless, I believe using yellow umbrella, but you can also transition into low luck. You can do low SS early on using certain weapons, and gear which provides secondary stat bonus to be able to equip your weapon without investing too much AP regularly. Which does give damage boost I know it's used on assassin using the Meba. Also pirate, not sure about archer. Warrior just just needs enough dex for accuracy to actually hit mobs, in combination with other accuracy sources. Dexless build would likely not work because there is not enough equips available that give outside accuracy bonuses.

The pay to win you mentioned although may make some uncomfortable, does encourage a healthier economy as long as there is an exchange between players. I play enough to have the meso to buy a AP reset token from a player. If by ugly truth you mean a more active player base then yes. You are correct. It allows casuals to feel like they can keep up in the game, and allows hardcore players to have access to the paid items for free. That just makes a better experience for everyone. I wouldn't wish any online game that has a precedence to keep up or be competitive to not allow a very affordable way to exchange gold from hardcore players into the hands of casuals VIA 2 dollar purchases.

There are a lot of issues with Artale, but the community for Maple worlds (mostly OSMS enjoyers) from what I have seen has got to be one of the worst I've seen in a pretty long time. People constantly demanding them to fix this fix that, yelling at them about how the game feels janky or how it isnt a true old school experience when hardly anyone can even agree on what features are important to the experience. Additionally, things like the custom worlds avatars are so minor and help support artale via their free pass in a very non intrusive way, so I hope they keep that. Also, OSMS, in general, is quite awful. I really like that artale is doing their own thing, like fixing atrocious skill functionality and hopefully making bosses more interesting. there are certain janky things like not being able to drop items but overall I feel like Artale is in a position where they have to appease some of the most ungrateful people I've ever seen and anything they can do is pretty cool.

The only reason people are playing artale is because it's an official Nexon adjacent server. Objectively it's a poorly made server with tons of bugs and exploits, limitations. Defend it all you want but that's the objective truth. Compared to some of the other more modern private servers still in alpha like Maple Odyssey that aims to completely balance the skills and classes, Artale doesn't hold a candle. It doesn't even let Buccaneers, the shortest range class with zero damage reduction, s. Try playing a Bucc here. It's extremely clunky and pot heavy because of the lack of s. Not to mention the meso seller spammers and hackers. It's clear the Devs want to capitalize on the Global hype for a cash grab because the game in its current state is unacceptable.

@kienmaple you're acting like the devs are an established corporation. Is Artale perfect? No. Does it have to be? Also, no. It will improve over time, and it's still very early on in its lifeline. Maple worlds no doubt also poses its own set of challenges. Private servers are less restricted and have had way more time to develop. If you want to try your hand at that and risk the servers getting taken down or whatever else happens, be my guest. However, no one is forcing you to play Artale, and the staff there have 0 obligations to satisfy your nastalgia

It definitely has some good characteristics. I think all but the most hardcore OSMS players know the game needs some tuning. Private servers and Artale both have positive changes. Auction house, auto loot, ways to get NX/gach for free, are all great changes IMO. That being said calling Artale 'official' seems disingenuous to me. Its something, and something is better than nothing, but alot of the charm/nostalgia people are desiring is coming from the old assets and artale at least currently falls flat IMO. Lastly yes HP washing being gone is a good thing but can we really say "they fixed it" before people are fighting end game bosses, to me its hard to say its fixed if eventually people get to zakum and get one shot. Thats not to say they should add Washing back, there should definitely me more quests/items that boost flat hp, so that end game gear gives you the defense/HP needed to live.

The buy-sell nx existed since back in the day too, only difference is, most of us were just kids with no jobs so it wasnt really a consideration, and all we wanted was the nx clothing and such, now with the gacha cancer, and "modern" mmos, and mostly how korean mmos evolved (maplestory itself is one of the factors in this) they all became pay 2 win, so doesnt surprise me seeing people doing this with WC/Meso, i even did that in game back in 2007-2008 where i would buy NX off people with in-game meso.

There is an argument for that it's slightly pay to win. People are allowed to trade world coin for meso or items. Honestly it's not necessary unless you're trying to make an OP assassin from the start. I'm finding as a page that scrolls are really affordable and I can find 60% for only a couple k. It's a good experience playing so far I haven't seen any over powered players that have obviously paid to win.

By far I think the dumbest thing that Artale has done is allow people to take ownership of a map because they farmed there first. It’s actually against ToS to farm on a map that someone is on without their consent. It’s gotten so dumb to the point that people will channel hop to get an empty map of the popular farming area just to sell it to make mesos. My first time running into a popular cleric farming spot was met by a player who hit me with a “?” As soon as I had entered the map. I started to clear the top platform of mobs and he tells me to cc cause I’m “messing up his rotation”. Mind you that the all channels were sitting comfortably at 50/50 players among 80+ servers…. AND HE COULDNT EVEN CLEAR 1 PLATFORM BEFORE THE NEXT ONE STARTED SPAWNING AND THERES 3 FLOOR TO THIS MAP! He immediately says “Oh okay. Keep farming up there, I’ll just record and send this in discord to get you banned” sometimes players like this in Artale are such losers. Why couldn’t we just party up and farm together and help eachother out.

It's not happening, the success of MapleLand in Korea is the nail in the coffin for any official made by Nexon osms server. Maplestory Worlds is as official as you're going to get.

eh, saying its the worst is a bit much I dont think it'd be that easy to make a game in whats basically a maplestory version of roblox, run exact servers as the original I think maplestory world has an extremely limited amount of players you can see at once, where as the real server is pretty much infinite. I think its pretty impressive how this allows you to straight up copy and paste old ms in the first place. I think that artale/mapleland will be will be a message to nexon about whether or not they should make an osms server. based on how popular itd actually become, it very possible.

For now, Artale is all the west has. We don't even know for sure if we're getting Maple Lands. OSMS was a rocky experience, so if you're wanting to play it consistently, some QoL changes aren't insane.

The experience is a lot more focused and small-scale, and that's what a majority of people I've talked to miss about OSMS. It doesn't have to be a mirror image to be the same experience, just look at any unofficial server.

Because most liked other aspects of OSMS, for me it's basic exploration. Modern Maple got NO exploration, all maps are just glorified henesys hunting ground and and no puzzles/hidden maps/small details to be found.
