Why does the RBW filter have an inverted peak/ flat-top when you are zoomed in to a peak? Is this a limitation or something the can be adjusted/calibrated? Also, in the case of a wide RBW is true peak the actual highest point (both sides of the RBW filter, or the middle which appears lower. Amazing device for the features and cost.

The RBW filter shape is due to a fixed DSP algorithm inside the RF IC. Can not be changed. The measured value is where the signal fits in the filter so some uncertainty for wide RBW

I know essentially nothing about RF techniques, and I was wondering what are the practical limitations of the TinySA's RBW of 2.6 kHz? Which applications are absolutely ruled out for the TinySA by this minimum RBW size? I guess looking at the details of certain kinds of modulation, but apart from that, I'm too clueless to know. Or to put it another way: what *could* I do with one of the low-end Rigol or Siglent SAs (with RBW down to 10 Hz) that I *can't* do with the TinySA.

Indeed, looking at certain kinds of modulation, and a low RBW may help to extract a signal from the noise. But given the difference in price, even second hand, why not start with a tinySA and if needed you can always buy a much more expensive Rigol or Siglent.

@@ErikKaashoek Eric, thanks for the rapid response. Yes, I had forgotten about the obvious SNR improvements due to smaller RBW - good point. I indeed intend to buy a tinySA (I note the lower case T :-) as I have an upcoming project where I think I will have to worry about EMI problems - something new for me - so I will need something to give me an idea of the problem - the tinySA will be fine for this, I think. And yes, I am going to use the tinySA as a device where I can learn some RF techniques - it's from that point of view that I'm wondering what I shouldn't expect to be able to do. By the way, are there any plans for hardware upgrades in the future, or is the current design pretty much final?

1000 / 580 is not 7.2 so I'm confused.
