Sierra Nevada Mountain scenic driving on California Scenic Highway 120 (Tioga Road) over Tioga Pass through Yosemite National Park. We start at the east end of Highway 120 at its junction with Highway 395 in Lee Vining and head west for 60 miles. From there we meet Big Oak Flat Road and head eastbound down towards Yosemite Valley.
This video was filmed in late September, and fall colors are starting to show in the trees in some areas along our drive.

It’s like taking a virtual road trip through nature’s canvas! It’s refreshing to relive my own travels through your footage. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are a treasure! The way you capture the essence of these places is incredible. I appreciate the authenticity without overlaying music. That allows the raw beauty of the surroundings to shine through. 🏞🚗✨

With all of the campgrounds inside the park along Tioga Road being closed this year, this high country section of Yosemite was simply wonderful. Absolutely zero crowds, hardly any traffic.... and most of all - plenty of peaceful nature to enjoy. You picked the right time to make this drive!

Wonderful scenic drive, one I have never done, though I did drive over eleven thousand feet twice during my two visits to Great Basin national park in eastern NV, which also had beautiful aspen trees, golden since fall was approaching. I gave myself several days to get used to the altitude so I could hike in the park thru the aspens to about 12000 feet, I noticed how little oxygen was in the air at that height, which probably added to the euphoric feeling I had visiting the park. It was the highest I have ever driven though my Camry handled it, even though it only had 4 cylinders, quite well. I enjoy these videos remembering places I have been to, that beckoned me to drive to them.

Hopefully you get the chance to drive Tioga Pass someday, it really is something when you see it in person! We haven't been to Great Basin National Park yet, but definitely plan to go one of these days. The altitude certainly takes some time to get used to, especially anything over 8,000 feet or so, and physical exertion really makes you feel the lack of oxygen. Thanks for watching!

Memories go through my mind… İ have done this road twice, well three times : first one in 2009 i did roundtrip cos i had to get back to SF after the APA congress ; 2nd time in 2018 eastbound to LV after raiders TNF @Levi’s. One of the most scenic road i ever made. So beautiful… ❤❤❤ What you miss westbound is the supeb view you get of Mono lake while descending that long road you take in the first part of this vid.

Im glad I found this video We drove from Carson City NV down to rt 120 to go to Yosemite Sept 12. We are from PA and rented a car in Reno to see where the Donner Party camped and to see Yosemite. Never thought it would look like it does. I drove back up Big Oak Flat road from Yosemiti Park and I hated it Scared of heights, we dont have roads like this here in central PA. Great video, thanks!

Just two months earlier, (early July-2023) snow nearly 1 meter high lined each side of Tioga Road and the adjacent landscape. The road opened far later than it usually does. Public traffic wasn’t allowed through until July 22nd. During the past several years, construction work and other implementations here in the high country section of Yosemite was simply wonderful to visit. No doubt others who came through here would agree.

Unfortunately I was not able to drive over Tioga Pass during our RV road-trip in Yosemite. We came from SF, and wanted to go then to Sequoia NP, so it would have been a big detour to drive it, it remains for the next time I will be there. But no problem, as you filmed it in the best possible quality, enjoyed a lot the stunning mountain landscapes, thanks a lot for sharing the video, greetings from a road-tripper from Germany!

I made two attempts to drive this road. The first time in november. As I drove from June lake to the base of the pass. The sign said "open", so I went to a nearby gas station to get a sandwich, and as I returned I saw the sign switch to "closed". Had to change my route and drove on to Lake Tahoe. The second time, a few years later I had planned to do the pass in the last week of june,.... unfortunately there was still several meters of snow on the pass and the road had not been cleared yet. Which made for an interesting detour to get to my next stay at Buck Meadows. Thanks for the video (though I would have preferred the driving parts uncut)

It really depends on how much time you spend at the highest elevations on the road and how much you're exerting yourself physically. If you're in the car just passing through and maybe getting out for brief periods to walk around and check out some scenery then I don't think you'd have too much to worry about. Some of the elevations in Colorado and other states are far worse than on Tioga Pass.

Saludos.
