Tip #2: Buy a spare Harvest Right Door Seal - They DO wear out eventually.

Here is a tip for Harvest Right owners who have an older machine. Be sure to buy a spare door seal - they wear out eventually. Mine failed at 3 years, but I know of another local user who also had his fail at about 3 years. In his case he was having vacuum errors and had replaced everything imaginable except the door seal. He brought his door seal over, and we tried it on my machine and had the same issue. When we inspected the seal with a magnifier glass we found the seal was damaged. After he bought and installed a new seal his problem was fixed.

Thanks Brian - good info to have. I've had my large dryer for about 19 months now and run it almost 24/7. I've put up a lot of foods. My oil less pump is running great - and yes they sent me the hose insert. I haven't had any further issues with the relays since I upgraded them with a 10 amp rated relay and installed an interposing 20 amp relay for the pump. Some thing I've made HR aware of - I don't know if they've made any changes to the relay board or not. My custom cooling system is working well - my garage gets to 120 F and the internal temp of the dryer stays around 85 to 88 F I would love to see more food experiments from you - one thing I like to do is make FD potato chips. Very thin sliced potato's blanched in salt water then freeze dried. Makes a very healthy snack. I'm doing some ice cream for the grand kids now, then back to some serious drying for long term storage. This has been the best prepping tool I own. I remember watching all of your videos to learn how to freeze dry - I guess by now I'm kind of a pro at it. I still watch any and all FD channels and learn new things. My biggest issue now days is storage space - things are getting tight for storage.

Hello and thank you for your videos, I just recently purchased a harvest rate medium freeze dryer from tractor supply and I noticed that when I shut the door the ring that is supposed to go around the gasket is not completely go in the full circle, but it still sucks down when it starts the vacuum pump. Shouldn’t that be a complete full circle when I shut the door? I’ve tried to adjust the door but I can’t get it to ever do a full circle unless the pump is on. It seems to work otherwise I just thought it should have a full circle when it’s not being used or also after the food is complete wouldn’t there be air getting in from the cracks if it takes me a while to get to it. Here in Northern Ca. Do you know if the refrigerant coils around the drum are bonded to it? My freeze pattern does not extend the depth of the drum like many that I have seen. Only around 2/3 of my drum ices over during the process. I am worried that I am low on coolant or the cooling tube wraps have unbonded.

Hey i know this video is for maintenance and i don't know how else to contact you. Im having problems with my pump. I took it apart and cleaned it and the little reeds on top needed to be cleaned. I took them off and dont know if i put them back on right. The are slightly bent and i cant remember if the bend goes up or down. Iv contacted HR and no answer i was hoping you would know. Hi Brian, i just received my dryer and after a bread test i did my first batch, however, as i brought it out and had switched the machine off I found it wasn’t properly dry. It was late at night and dint know how long to put it back in for so left it on my counter covered with a towel. Can i still put it back in tomorrow??

Just made a first run with a new unit and some time during the night it completed but the door was covered with condensate on the inside. After the unit broke vacuum the door even though latched, had a 1/8" gap on the right side. Plus the 1/4" hinge bar screws were tilted towards the right side. Removed the gasket several times and reseated but when trying a vacuum test the remaining gap after being latched will not allow a seal to maintain vacuum. Only way until they come up with a fix for my new unit is to wedge some material under the latch finger to pull the door completely down. With the gasket fully seated there is visible binding on the left circumference which is not allowing the latch to fully seated the door against the gasket. Anyone else experience this?
