Tip - 329: How to use MoGraph effectors as deformers in Cinema 4D

In this Quick Tip, Jonas Pilz (@jonaspilz3d) shows that MoGraph effectors can be used to deform geometry. You will learn which settings you need to adjust and also which direction to choose to make it work correctly. Furthermore, Jonas shows three effectors and their effect on a surface.

can you use fields and effectors in scene nodes? Fields are very user friendly but there’s a lot of jumping around. I could see a node layout being useful

I’d love to use C4d but it’s so hard to afford it to even learn. The subscription model means having to pay perpetually even if I may only occasionally use it for my videos. I’m not at university so I can’t get an education license either. Would be great if there was some tier that was more affordable, especially in these tough times.

there’s always blender. really any paid software is only worth it if you use it every day.

@@MrMadvillan true. Ive tried blender and I find it harder to understand. Maybe I’ll give it another go. On the other hand , I’m a sound designer. I create videos once every 3 months, so I do tend to dip in and out of graphics. I get your point though.

@@MrMadvillan and you can transfer the knowledge you collect learning on blender to c4d. You can work offering your services as a blender 3d artist and the you can buy a c4d license.

Is there any reason this doesn't work on splines? I'm trying this in S26 and R25 and it will only work with the Position parameter but Scale and Rotation do nothing. I also tried the Shader effector and even the Morph deformer using two splines with no luck. Having given up on effectors, I tried a Mesh Deformer but that didn't work. The only luck I had scaling down a spline (aside from manually scaling down points) was with the FFD Deformer. Apparently, deforming a spline in anyway that has a field option is not possible. This is a pretty disappointing limitation.
