I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if car dealers started asking for tips Everytime someone bought a car, this has gotten ridiculous. I go to shake shack and I ordered on a tablet and it asked for a tip, and like, “what am I tipping for? I ordered my own food and no human interaction took place”. People need to put their feet down and say no, I stopped feeling guilty at fast food places doing that a long time ago.

I know right? A tip should be EARNED on top of the persons salary by providing an Excellent service and not just something that has become "required"
@bigtrolly7 ай бұрын
Luckily that'll probably never happen, as those employees are salesmen. Salesmen often get paid based on commissions, they get paid for their sales by their company because they made the company earn more money. Good service doesn't help an establishment earn more money so they don't get paid more for delivering it, which employers apparently believe is reasonable and justified. Basically, if someone makes a company money solely because of their actions, they earn commissions from their employers for doing so. If someone does their job and actively improves a customer's experience, they get commissions from the customer for doing so.

Those are amazing solutions! Although people should donate out of the kindness and generosity of their hearts, people like being rewarded for being generous. People want to spend the least amount of time when it comes to tipping because they want fast service. I was taught that asking for tips is considered tacky. I do not expect to receive tips at my job. It’s nice receiving tips at my job, even though they are rare. I work at an auto parts store. I prefer to get my own take out because I am not pressured to tip as much. GOATed cashiers are the ones who encourage us to press the no tip options on the machines.

My problem with tip screens is sometimes the employees stare at you and it makes me so uncomfortable. I went to a dave and busters a few weeks ago and I remember the waitress just staring at me when she pull up the tip page on her handheld tablet then SHE LOOKED DOWN AS I REACHED FOR THE SCREEN. I think employees should just kind of look away from you when the tip screen pulls up so it’s not so awkward or rude

While it’s a boring and old fashion option, I think the solution here is tip jars. That way the customer doesn’t feel pressured to tip and will put in an amount that makes them feel happy. While I understand the reasoning for the screens is so you can tip if you pay with card, it just doesn’t feel right when it’s displayed in a way where you feel forced to tip.

You don't tip your refuse collectors? As a binman from London, I (and also my colleagues) know EXACTLY how much each household tip. Remember not even 15 years ago, before contactless really took hold? These days most people tip via the app, but you still find some older folks taping coins to the inside of the bin lids, with an odd lemon sherbet or a Werther's. Good tippers will never see a "sorry we missed your collection!" sticker on their uncollected bins...

I worked at Subway one summer, and I always remembered customers asking, "what's this for?" whenever the pop-up screen for tips showed up. I usually just told them, "ah, it's nothing- just press the no tip option." My friends and family thought I was crazy for doing that, but I've always thought forcing someone to tip is ridiculous. More often than not, people would put actual money in the tip jar if I did a good job serving them, which feels much better for both the customer and employee rather than a mindless machine forcing you to pay extra.

We don't tip in Australia, but we still have these screens for "donations" 🙄 And it's so annoying because, and there's no way this isn't on purpose, the screen takes longer to go away than all the other screens so when you press "no fuck off you can't have any more of my money" the screen sits there with a big fat cross in the no box so all the people lined up behind you have time to see it and judge you!

@harpiessnow7 ай бұрын
@@PotatoNo Except it is in any other aspect than waiters/waitresses or delivery drivers for services like ubereats/gubhub/etc (since those jobs tend to thrive off of tipping culture). Every job that has these tip screens are ones that the employee is paid a wage that they agreed upon, and falls in the realm of allowing one to, at the minimum, survive (wont be luxurious living, but you'll be living). If they did something that you deemed stellar, then w/e, give the person a tip. The problem is when you get a drink from a fridge somewhere, the person at the register just scans it (nothing else), and then they give you a nasty look, or say some off handed comment when you click past the tip screen like they did anything that would have deserved a tip in the interaction. I've had it happened to me, I've seen it happen to friends and family, and plenty of people online have tales of interactions where the employee did literally nothing more than what a self scan check out could do, only for said employee(s) to get rude or say something when a tip wasn't given.
