as someone who finished my web design city college certificate little over a year ago, and has been working as a designer and developer at a marketing company for nearly a year at this point, I find these videos super useful for clarifying career goals, how to go forward, and what to avoid. Your the only guy who I have found who makes these and they are awesomely helpful. So thanks! Its much appreciated

So very helpful. I just a scholarship to a coding bootcamp, but I want to make sure once I am done I can definitively place myself in the realm of UI/UX design work. Next step is building my portfolio. Thanks for the tips!

Hi Mike, do you recommend showing desktop, tablet and mobile views for each of one's personal projects? Also, how many unique pages (showing each of these views) do you recommend per project?

I wonder if it's better to get an internship as a UI UX designer or just try to go for the job first?

Hey mike I have a question. On your portfolio page you have a picture of your projects and when you click on them you only display pictures. Do you think it would be better if you explained each stage of the design process with a few sentences/paragraphs detailing how you went about building the flow of the wireframes, and how you carried out the research process, etc..?
@MikeLocke9 жыл бұрын
Alex Smith Yes, if you can display more information on your portfolio, the better. The easiest thing to do is to just get your static screenshots up there. But if you want to go further and explain things in-depth, it can only help. Check out www.f-i.com, they do a great job detailing out their portfolio projects.

I want to ask how much value do employers see in personal projects? I started a project based on something I was interested in and I conducted a little research and have put the development of it in my portfolio. Is that what you mean by personal project? I don't yet have all the ideas fleshed out or many sketches since I've been just talking and learning about users at this stage. I hope you understand what I'm asking!

I have been unknowingly doing this on the job for sometime now as a systems administrator (yikes). I am very ready to get these ideas on paper/web! My question is I have a lot of concepts, but should I be concerned about my ideas being stolen?? Is it better to not use my actual ideas?

Mike, Someone asked about other skills in the corporate space. You did this vid and I shared it with them. www.mlwebco.com/2015/01/25/additional-skills-used-by-uiux-designers/ Still great advice.

Thank you for such a great video! I'm constantly improving my skills through personal projects and many of them i've posted. I'm having an issue with actually landing the job most times, I have strong interview skills and the interviews admit that I am a strong candidate for the job however I usually dont get selected. Are there any tips you can provide which would help myself and those in a similar position that coudl possibly increase the succession rate of conversion?
@MikeLocke9 жыл бұрын
Will A. Davis Keep at it, you will eventually land a spot. Its hard. The fact that you're landing interviews and you feel confidant that you interview well is what really matters. Its just a matter of time. Its not you, this is just the typical process. Its happens to me throughout my career. Your opportunity will come.

Thanks for showing that potato landing page! For me it's a struggle to overcome one's weaker self to make fictional websites based on "nothing". Now I know it's possible. :)
@MikeLocke9 жыл бұрын
scenesofalife Its not easy. The goal is to really make it complete with "realistic" content rather than just Lorem Impsum text, etc.
@Ralphunreal9 жыл бұрын
***** Hey Mike, is it fine to use lorem ipsum on the wireframes but "realistic" content on mockups?
@MikeLocke9 жыл бұрын
Ralphunreal I would say yes... Lorem text fine for wires but better to use "real fake" text for mockups.
