On the colors part, I would also like to say that colors can convey mood, and, while this is more of an editing/lighting/shading trick, it could also work for foreshadowing as well. Example, a bright, cheery character has no clean clothes other than black, so she is walking around wearing black all day. Black is an omen of death/bad luck, so, you may be able to guess she isn't going to be having a good day. Another thing for character design is color charts. These are a bit rare, so let me explain. Color charts are basically the meaning behind colors. When you see something green, you usually think of nature, and that usually links back to calmness, so in many people's minds, Green is equal to serenity, or calm. Colors like purple could suggest royalty, and colors like black can mean mal or bad. There are some colors that change in some cultures though. In the Chinese color charts, Blue can mean bad health and death, while in other cultures it could mean the exact opposite. So, if you do go looking for color charts, don't mix and match, stay with one culture.

Good to see someone made this at last, I just have a few things I wanted to point out 0:42 Hair colour does count, it's almost always a main colour. The head is the main focus of the character, and the hair frames that, and especially in Sukie's case, her hair makes up a lot of her design! For example, we all recognise Hatsumi Rou for her character's blue and pink hair, even more so that the rest of her design, so if we said her hair colour didn't count, we'd be taking away a major part of her design. Any colour that makes up a large part of a characters design is usually counted as a main colour, as it attracts the eye Even in the character you showed, if we decided to give her neon pink and black hair, that would majorly change how she looked so saying that the hair colour isn't a main colour doesn't really make sense. And you don't know how happy I am to see someone else understands that neon colours are not always going to murder your eyes. I always use brighter eye colours, and bright colours on other areas I want to draw attention to. So long as they aren't overused, they can look good. Also, some advice for the emo boy, you should try throw in a light colour somewhere. The design looks a little dull. Maybe light brown boots or a white t-shirt? But that's just my opinion. And damn this comment just turned into an essay didn't it.

Code8bird I also think that the girl at 1:08 has a really good design, she had three main colors: pink, purple, and blue, which compliment each other really well. The spoiled brat was also designed pretty well before she changed her, I think to really show the gacha stereotype ahe should’ve been blonde with neon pink and yellow clothes. for that you should make a character sheet. go with a basic idea like: “funny musican” or “shy singer”. then expand on it so you can flesh the character out. “my character is a flute player and enjoys telling music jokes”. now that you have a okay idea, come up with mannerisms aka the way your character interacts with people “my character is a outgoing casual type of person.she likes showing her close friends and family the music she has learned. she also doesn’t mind talking to new people” add a few more and you have a good general idea of your character. if you want to make a more complicated character, add a few triggers. stuff that will make your character stray from their normal attitude. “my character hates it when people bully others. she was bullied when she was first learning music and it made her want to become an even better player. she also gets a little jealous of people when they get more attention for their music when she feels they didnt work as hard. it will put her in a slump or cause her to play nonstop for a few hours till she calms down”. finally come up with a name that suits the character. a name should match the time and energy of the character. naming your character Elizabeth or Beatrice isn’t as common as Alex or Sammy. in this case let’s name her..... Lauryn.

I'd also add a little tip: try to use multiple main colors for main characters while using one for side characters, to really make the main characters stand out. by multiple colors, i mean contrasting/complimentary colors. you can also find lots of information on colors by simply looking up "color theory" on youtube, you'll find actual art tips that'll make your gacha characters look really nice. btw, not having a set main color is fine as long as it fits a certain aesthetic. i have two characters (the mom of a trans kid and a ginger girl) who don't really have set main colors in their design, because the ginger girl is kind of random and i need her to stick out (which is why she mostly has vibrant colors in her design, inspired by beginer gacha designs and sparkledogs) and the trans kid's mom has more ugly dark/light colors because she lacks a fashion sense or the motivation to dress nicely. reminder that i'm an artist and that i've drawn for at least 6 years now and that i have quite a grasp on color theory. just know that don't use ALL the colors of the rainbow and don't necessarily limit yourself to one, and try to go for a feel/aesthetic with the colors. Also, personality/emotion code for emotions: Yellow - joyful and energetic (perfect for hyper kids) Orange - courageous/brave, confident and successful Red - love, passionate and desireful Pink - healthy, feminine and compassionate Purple - royalty, luxurious and ambitious Blue (indigo) - security, loyal, peace Turquoise/Aqua - spiritual, sophisticated, healing, protection Green - fresh, money (wealth), healing (ironically the green outfit fits the spoiled brat) Brown - earth, outdoors, conservative (great color for christian parents or grandparents or something) White - purity, freshness, clean Black - protection, elegance, formality Grey - security, reliable, intelligent i got the info from the internet, i'm sure you can also go with your guts for characters.

Okay so, another thing that I like is having lighter colors for darker skin tones, and darker colors for lighter skin tones. I have a few exceptions, but most of the time it looks good. :>
