Thank you for good tips. Many of these "tips" have been around for a long time. It still is nice to be reminded. I knew about the salt on glue up. I have a palm router "Ridgid" just like yours that I seldom use because of the small "tippy" base. Since I do have some plexiglass, I will make a larger base to help stabilize it. Since I will be using the drill press to make this base I will add several extra holes where you have put the handle. This way I can also double this as a hole cutter. Thanks again.. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Retired GM mechanic. Don.

I use a bicycle inner tube on the end of spring clamps for edge banding. its a little more durable than elastic, a wider area and you don't need to remove the clamp protectors, just put the inner tube over top of the clamp ends. As with Lexan vs Polycarbonate, Plexiglas is a brand name for acrylic. another tip, if wood gets trapped in your hole saw, drive a screw into it and when it hits the end of the hole saw, it will draw the wood out

Another tip when installing draw pulls (knobs) on thin stock , use your wire stripping pliers to cut the screws shorter. If your stripping pliers don’t have this feature find a pair that does. It is a great feature to have.
@acutabove_woodworkings Жыл бұрын
I agree completely Frank. There are certain brands of wire strippers that have 10-32, 8-32 and in some cases 6-32 threaded holes for bolt cutting. The threaded holes then repair the threads after the cut and makes for a very easy way to shorten a bolt for drawer hardware (which I believe is an 8-32 thread). Great suggestion and tip. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with that. I may have to use that on a future show and can't believe I hadn't thought of it because I've been doing it for years.

Ken here is another tip/trick, ever had to hold a board while clamping and everything is moving here's the tip take a rubber band place it on the front jaw below the opening and bring the rubber band around to the handle when the piece you are holding in 1 hand and the clamp in your other hand just pull on the release trigger the clamp will close and then you are ready to tighten the clamp
@stephengee8488 Жыл бұрын
I don’t understand this.
@acutabove_woodworkings Жыл бұрын
That's a good one Alan. I've never thought of doing that. I think that a stronger rubber band would be a better bet for this as it would really get it to snap into place quickly. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your tip. It's a great one and we might see that on a future tips show.
@acutabove_woodworkings Жыл бұрын
Basically Stephen, Alan is saying to place a rubber band from the end of your clamp (like a Quick Grip clamp) to the area behind your handle. This will put tension on the clamp but won't allow it to close because of the locking bar that holds it in place. When you depress the locking bar, the tension provided by the elastic band will pull the clamp closed and then you just have to do the finishing tension instead of squeezing the handle to close a large gap. I hope this explains it a little.
